  • Seriously good weight there lwhayes!! Ninenines I keep looking at where to go next....I'm thinking 3x5 at this point but have also been looking at 5/3/1.....not sure yet. Samantha... Don't fret about the Ohp deload too much. I still can't push beyond 25kgs perfectly after 8 months!!
  • Glad I'm not the only one getting frustrated with weight/BF - but yes, you are right, Beeps, we just want better! If I look back, I am stronger, fitter, healthier, a better shape, so I should just remember that the numbers are not the be all and end all (unless they are the numbers of kgs I am lifting hahaha!)....I need to…
  • safe travels @DawnEmbers and good luck with the next chapter of your life!! @canadianlbs well done on the bench! I managed to get on the squat rack this morning before work: SQ 5x5 @67.5kgs. Will try and start on getting some 70kg sets in next time, although that would be the most I have lifted, so will be taking it…
  • lovely to see you @fanncy0626!! Hope your recovery is going well x
  • Beeps, it is the day for frustration today, then. I've been so conscious of my food, my level of exercise, blah blah blah, yet I have today gotten onto the scales to see that I have put back on the weight I have been yo-yoing with.....and my bodyfat % has INCREASED to 37.6%! So, not only am I getting heavier, but it is FAT…
  • @lwhayes820 those weights are impressive! Well done you! I've not found that the assisted pull ups have helped my OHPs - I seem to be forever stuck at the same weight there, although my form is stronger, I think. However, a few months ago, I needed to have far far more assistance in the pull ups - and I am much much closer…
  • Ninenines, so sorry. I lost my dad 11 years ago, and it feels like a lifetime some days and like yesterday at other times. No rules....take care of you xx Lifted yesterday.... SQ 5/5/5/5/4 @ 67.5kgs BP 5X5 @42.5kgs Rows 5x5 @45kgs Barbell curls 5x5@20kgs Press ups and assisted pullups. All good.
  • Thank you for the anniversary wishes!! Had a good gym session yesterday... Squats at 67.5kg, Ohp @25kg and bench at 42.5kg. Ready to push through to the next weight I think. I'm definitely feeling stronger again. Then a couple of fabulous days away. Lots of spa treatments, good food and generally able to relax. I feel like…
  • Tch, I sometimes use a kettlebell to hold with both hands in front of me when doing step ups instead of dumbells. Means I am much more centered as I too have a definite weaker side. By holding the dumbell in front, my hips stay straight and both legs get an equal workout. Gym for us this morning, then as it is our first…
  • I lifted today, on a hangover... Not a good move!! Managed 3 sets of Squats at 67.5kg but could not get further. OHP 5X5 @25kgs DL 3+2 @82.5 kgs. Better here, as this was a new best, but still had to split the set due to my broken finger. Pleased with it, though, and it made up for the failed squats. Lesson…
  • Well, I've meal planned for the next 3 weeks! - Feeling highly organised, and so far everything I have cooked and served up has been met with very favourable noises and comments from those around the table, so it is quite refreshing to have introduced some new dishes into the week! Aigre - I'll bet you are so excited about…
  • Another vote for stronglifts. Or New Rules of lifting for women. There are some mfp groups for ladies that lift... Do head over and join us....We're a friendly bunch and you'll get no end of tips, encouragement etc, right from your first lift! Good luck and enjoy lifting. It does magical stuff to your body!!!
  • There's nothing wrong with doing a bit of cardio or HIIT on your non-lifting days - the key is to keep it at such a level that doesn't fatigue your muscles so much that your lifting progress suffers. I know that when I was running every day (even though it was only 2 miles a day), my lifting progress stalled. Doing the…
  • Ditto, beeps - thinking of you today :) Julie - you'll soon settle back into things. Getting back into a routine, or getting into a new one, after holidays generally takes me a while too! No gym for me this morning, and we've a wedding reception to go to this evening, so I snuck in an extra 2 miles on my walk to work and…
  • So....I'm flirting with both SL and Strong at the mo. SL is my preferred, but increasingly I'm finding it difficult to get on the squat rack, so I've decided that rather than get stressed about it, I will be armed with "plan B", or Strong, which generally is using the other kit in the gym. So, its looking like I will…
  • So much going on in people's lives! Good times :) I managed to workout this morning before work. I was feeling the effects of yesterdays session in my legs so opted for a HIIT session. 20 mins @ 30 secs on/30 secs recovery of battleropes, kettlebell swings and kettlebell squats. Boy, for 20 mins it doesn't half work you…
  • I'm prepping a whole variety of things, from chicken and chickpea stew in the slow cooker, to fancy tuna salad that I stuff in Pitta bread. Check out fitmencook.com for an amazing set of ideas. Nom nom nom!!!
  • Have a safe journey, Jo! I look forward to hearing all about it, and your new goals, when you get back. In other, obviously very important news.....I just bought a lunchbag. Not the one I *really* wanted, but still pink, girly and completely unnecessary!!!!!
  • Sounds like a sensible approach, Dawn. Once you are settled in the new place you will soon get back into a workable routine. Until then, just run with it! The squat rack was busy at the gym this morning when I was there before work, so no temptation to do more than my second workout B of stage 1 plus some crosstrainer…
  • Yes. I agree! It's tempting when you are seeing other people posting accessories or extra workouts as you think "ooh, I could just add that in", but that time will come soon enough! Form is everything at this stage. Nail that and you'll see results so much quicker, even with just SL as written. Try and move on too quickly…
  • tchrmom, I am very sure you will feel the benefit soon - I used to do lots of bodypump etc classes, but am a complete convert to the weights room! Stick with it, and you will see progress. Nothing to stop you doing bodypump etc too, but you will notice a change in your form as you become more "technical" doing Strong or…
  • Ooh, Julie well done on hitting all those PRs!! Have you recovered from your travels? The Hip is doing alright.... Still very aware of it, but I'm back to lifting the sort of weights I was lifting before the injury. So I am very encouraged.
  • Bank holiday here, so hubby and I got a good amount of gym time in this morning. SQ... Having failed at 67.5kgs the last couple of times, I went back to 65 kgs. Did 4x5 then did 1x5 @70kgs. Felt really good doing this. Also 2x12 goblet squats @28kgs rows.... 5x5 @ 45 kgs. Plus 2x12 single Arm rows @ 14kgs BP finally got…
  • Rest day for me today. As lazy as lazy can be. Gym in the morning, though!
  • I lifted today. The gym was nice and quiet. SQ 5/4/5/5/4 @ 67.5kgs. Guess I will be staying with this weight for a while! Had to keep watching my knees too ad they wanted to cave inwards. OHP 5/5/5/5/4 @30 kgs. Still using my knees to push although not as much as last time. Damn that last rep, though!! DL 3+2 @ 80kgs. A…
  • Enjoy your holiday! The weights will still be here when you return!
  • Dawn, I hope the cold does one soon! Loads of positive stuff on this thread,. Lovely to see! Second day of strong for me today. Thought I might miss squats so did some kettlebell squats to start, then powered my way through the session. Liking the core and balance work and can really feel my muscles working! Hoping to get…
  • I've only done the first 2 sessions. So early days yet. I've previously done Nrol4w so knew the format behind it. I just need something structured that I can do when the squat rack is taken up, because I was finding that I was getting frustrated if I couldn't do my planned SL. I figure that even if I end up doubling up and…
  • Ooh, stephie , that sounds like gooooood pain!!!! I lifted this morning. Started "Strong" although I do need to read the book properly over the next few days. I'm doing really well with reducing sugar. Most of the time, at least! I'm becoming more aware of what I'm eating and when....it's definitely helping me achieve a…
  • Bit of a hit and miss session for me today but I really feel as though I worked hard, so I'll take that and run with it: SQ 5/5/4/5/4 @ 67.5kgs I tried for that last rep on each set but it wasn't going to happen. Next time!! BP 5/4/3 @42.5kg then back to 40 kgs for 2 x 5 - felt scrappy on these. Need to focus more as I…
