When I trained for my first marathon I gained weight which was nuts...when I trained for my second I was extremely careful and maintained and maybe lost a little. I am now training for my 3rd and trying to drop the stubborn 10 pounds I gained nursing an injury this past winter. Hopefully my food choices during the rungry…

I had a fractured sesamoid and can honestly say my foot has never been the same. After 3 months non weight bearing in a boot and then PT it took absolutely forever to get back to a decent running place. It did jack my foot up and I still have problems but won't stop running. I do every now and then give myself a day extra…

I have done very well with Isagenix and use it to my advantage. I initially got the whole 30 day program but had a reaction to the cleanse so had to just keep it to shakes. I had horrible food behaviors before Isa so for me it helped me get the right calories in and get used to having shakes, snacks and meals. For MY…

Endurance athlete and I take BCAAs after each workout (run, spin or weights). I like them and I find that I do have better recovery since taking them. might be all in my head though.

Fudgetown cookies.....omg heaven from my childhood.

I've done over 30 halfs and don't really agree with most everyone. I do agree that you need an easy run, a speed work or tempo run, and a long run every week but the cross training is good for you, especially strength training. I personally prefer spin as my cross training and take 3 spin classes a week, strength train 3…

I am struggling every day to "recover" as well and absolutely hate grocery stores and have anxiety attacks every time I go. You aren't alone.

I am a morning person and had to switch for years to evening workouts due to kids schedules so went back to mornings about 18 months ago. And I mean morning...i am usually at the gym between 4:30 and 4:45am. For me, I set my alarm and allow myself one snooze. I need an hour before I leave to have some coffee, do some…

I didn't do Shakeology but I did Isagenix (no comments please - I don't sell the stuff) and I really liked it but the price just got crazy. I would love to be able to afford to continue one shake a day (breakfast) because for me it works for my gym before work lifestyle. I may try to continue to manage one shake a day at…

I'm a distance runner and get the whole challenge aspect but I suggest you respect the distance. A half marathon isn't half of anything and 13.1 miles is nothing to sneeze at. You have no idea how you'd perform at long distance and just doubling your 5 mile time to estimate a finish is not how it goes. Your body needs to…

Just curious, you're half training correct? Thats a lot of miles weekly for half training IMO (of course that's just my opinon). Maybe keep it closer to the 30 than the 40. Add some other forms of cardio for cross training would be more beneficial than additional miles. And I get rungry too...its awful sometimes. I find…

I'm a distance runner and have done exactly what you've done (no rest days) and I my experience has been that you are setting yourself up for an injury. Muscles need to recover. Its fine to do cardio but not running. Maybe spin or row or swim but I would caution against running every day. May be ok now but eventually it…

Swimming! Low impact but an excellent workout.

I've done really well on it.

I started a new phase of my life in 2008 when I started running. I was large...very large. I didn't run for weight loss I ran because I always wanted to be a runner. I stayed pretty large and ran lots of races as a larger person. When I decided I wanted to run faster and improve my running I relooked at all my habits and…

My trainer is amazing and holds me accountable and makes me want to work my hardest. I've had great results with her and she keeps mixing things up so I don't get bored. We hire them because we want what they have to offer....you'll be great.

I do a recovery run/spin class on Monday, easy run and lift on tuesday, rest wednesday, thursday is speedwork and lift or just speedwork if its a long session, Friday is spin class and lifting if I didn't lift thursday and if I did its just core, Saturday is a long run and Sunday is spin and lifting. I lift to support my…

Doing different variations builds the muscle in different ways. I do multiple angles for full bicep workouts.

I was so afraid to try spin...by trainer and best friend is also a spin instructor...now I love it! it took awhile for me to get comfortable with it but get into the music and enjoy the ride!

Have trained for 3 fall marathons in NJ heat and my best advice is hydration isn't only on long run day. Keep yourself well hydrated all the time, carry water AND a sports drink and I also carry money so I can stop and refill my 4 bottles (I carry 4 8oz bottles for anything over 15 miles, under 15 I will carry 2 bottles…

Bosu squats helped me tremendously with balance and yes one side for me had the same issue.

Before I got into race training, I would just add about 10% of my total mileage per week (I usually added it to one of the runs so it became a "long run") to build mileage. Then I got hooked in racing and training and its been history since then. Just for the record, I run 30 miles a week usually (depending on where I am…

I'm 5'7" and about 155- 157 and have a larger bone structure. I realize she is being conservative but I'd really like to get to my goal of about 10 or so more pounds. I'm a distance runner so for me leaner is better but I also weight train regularly so I also have built alot of muscle (in a good way). I started my weight…

I use the shakes/bars and love it. I do not sell the stuff nor do I do the cleanses but I like the shakes for the convenience and the bars are better quality and taste than Quest bars. So I may not be the Isazombie that everyone complains about but I have managed to make it work for me and my life choices.

Hi, I'm a distance runner and work out 6 days a week and only step back every 4 weeks (run less mileage) but no full weeks off. I workout even on vacation but I may be slightly nuts as most endurance athletes are. I also have RA and lupus and I find that this schedule keeps me mobile and not stiff. I do take one day a week…

A mile on average burns about 100 calories as a rule (slightly more or less depending on your weight). 3 miles of biking equals about 1 running mile (and thats if you continuously peddle). Just some guidelines to go by no matter what the electronics try to tell you.

Ezekial bread with 1/4 avocado spread on with sliced tomato is delish.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Its never feasible to run every day. Cross train on non running days with activity that enhances running but doesn't replicate (cycling, swimming, rowing). and at minimum you should have 1 rest day for recovery.

Road Runner Sports longer shorts (I think they are 7 inches). They are compression and absolutely don't bunch.
