  • At the time of surgery I was on 3 diabetes meds, at my last doctors appointment my doctor was able to remove one of them, with the hopes to remove another at my next appointment and eventually the third. I didn't have any problems taking my pills after surgery but it did take me awhile to get them all down (about 45 mins)…
  • In reading everyones stories I've really realized that everyone's body reacts differently. Some people never get the hunger feeling back, I didn't have it for the first month but ever since I've noticed if I go to long between eating that I get really strong painful hunger pains, worse than I've ever felt before. It really…
  • my only option ended up being the sleeve (which was fine by me because it's what I really wanted) due to some of the medications I take. In the beginning I'd considered the band, but after reading a bunch of stories about it I wasn't sure I liked the sound of it. A good friend of mine got it about 4 or so years ago now and…
  • I took a bunch of stuff with me that I didn't end up needing at all because I slept most of the time. Robe, slippers, lip balm, a few toiletries and clothes to go home in is all I really needed.
  • I will check out the dry soup mixes next time I'm at the store, thanks! Chili is by far my favorite, always has been, I don't even change the recipe I love it that much (my gramma's recipe). Although I used to use a TON of crackers in it, I can now eat it with no crackers or just 1 pack of 2 crackers (like you get from…
  • Same here, but when I was thinking about making some I had kind of a "light bulb" moment that made me think it might not be a good idea. Thanks everyone for the input! I think I need to get some recipes for more stew like/chili like soups for these cold nights. I did make a batch of broccoli cheese soup and added in…
  • thanks :) I think I will be making chili for dinner tomorrow
  • That's great! Keep up the good work! :) And congratulations on the weight loss so far
  • thanks everyone, I think I'm going to talk to my nutritionist about my diet and in the mean time adjust some things. Most days I have to drink a glass of juice to reach 1000 calories, it's about the only way I can do it, so if I don't need to then I can easily cut that out and be closer to 800 calories a day
  • I'm a bit confused too
  • this is a big problem area for me as well, my arms were always big (not in a muscular way lol) and now that I'm losing they are getting flabbier and flabbier, I've been told weight lifting (like 10 - 15 lb weights) is one way to try and target the area, I've also started using a skin firming lotion 2-3 times a day, but…
  • looks like you're doing good! Can really see it in your face and your shirt looks a couple sizes to big! How much have you lost so far? I'm just a little ahead of you I'm at 3 months 2 weeks yesterday
  • Another thing to consider is altering clothes. It's really pretty easy to take in a pair jeans a couple of times instead of having to buy "new" ones. I've been doing this for my jean, I've had to take them in 3 times now (I think this is pretty much the limit as there isn't much space left around the back to take in lol)…
  • my doctor told me 1000-1200 calories and no more than 100g carbs, 60-80g protein (being so short I was told I can get away with 60g but I try to aim for 70g)
  • How can you not love a face like this?!
  • you can also mix up flavors with kool-aid and splenda. I like to mix a packet of kool-aid with a 1/2 cup of splenda in a ziplock bag and then mix in a teaspoon or two into my bottle of water, or sometimes I mix the kool-aid (usually black cherry) with crystal light, it's great mixed with pink lemonade.
  • Well I think I should start a savings account now for skin removal surgery cause it don't sound like I'll have much luck lol I've been overweight since I was about 9. I know it's going to happen, and I'm ok with it, it's better to have the lose skin the than extra 100+ pounds I've been carrying for so many years! I think…
  • I did pretty well I think for my first christmas after surgery. I had my normal breakfast and lunch then made a pretty simple dinner for myself and my daughter. We had ham, I made mashed potatoes and corn for her, and I had a little bit (maybe a 1/4 cup or less) of sweet potatoes that I brought home from work, this was the…
  • I would talk to your nutritionist about the gum, I think everyone has different guidelines. Going into my second week post op I had gotten to the point that I didn't really miss eating (I was still on mostly liquids for 3 weeks after surgery, 2 shakes and a little soup each day) I just missed the sensation of chewing…
  • I've noticed with some of my shirts that I have this problem with the only thing I can do is to alter them (I can't afford to be buying new clothes all the time lol) the best way to alter shirts is to sew along the seam that is on the top of the sleeve/shoulder area. This helps to stop them from dropping to low until…
  • I totally feel your frustration here! I had a big drop right after surgery (20 lbs at my 2 week check up!) then it slowed WAY down. Over all I'm down 42 lbs in 3 months, but most of that was the first month, between my 6 week and 3 month appointments I'm only down 5 lbs. It was hard not to be discouraged after since a big…
  • I like the premier protein as well, I get the premixed just because it's easier for me to take to work. I've also used Cellucor which tastes pretty good, that one is a powder. You can often get coupons and rebates for premier on their website.
  • I think everyone feels different after surgery. I didn't feel hunger at all for the first few weeks, I had no problem living on protein shakes and a little soup. Of course it took me almost an hour to drink each shake and at least a half hour to "eat" a couple ounces of soup lol I didn't really start to feel hunger until I…
  • Any questions you have don't be afraid to ask your doctor! Trust me they have heard it all, so don't be embarrassed about ANYTHING you have questions about. I was worried about the bowl prep and was a little embarrassed asking my doctor about some of the things to expect, and was plesently surprised by all his responses.…
  • It is SO normal to be nervous and have these fears! I too had people who felt it necessary to give me negative opinions and try to convince me I could do it "on my own", or I "just need to exorcise more" or blah, blah, blah. These are the people who think surgery is a "cheat" or an "easy fix". This surgery is a tool and by…
  • I had my Gastric Sleeve done on 9/24/14 so almost 3 months ago (just had my 3 month post-op check up) Age: 39 Height: 5'1" At my first appointment I was at 379 Day before surgery: 341 Today: 281 Starting pants size: 32(jeans) 3x-4x everything else Current sizes: 26 jeans not sure on the rest, but I've had to take in the…
  • This is my first post here, I've actually been using MFP for awhile now but never notices the groups/boards! A little about me: A had the Gastric Sleeve Surgery about 3 months ago, I have struggled with my weight since childhood. I've made some pretty good progress so far but still have a long long way to go. Still a good…
