  • Calorie deficit for weight loss. For fitness, how about a rowing machine?
  • 3-mile run, then strength work. Caught sight of my profile while lifting. It wasn't horrible.
  • 30 minutes on the erg at a moderate pace. Still feeling the muscle soreness from my last weight session, but it felt good to work it out. Really have to get new workout clothes. The bagginess is a hazard on the erg. My shirt kept getting caught in the rollers. I didn't realize that it was getting longer as well as wider.
  • When people show you who they are, believe them. And then act accordingly.
  • My mother intentionally bought us unsugared PB when I was very young, so it's been at least 40 years. Beyond that, I don't know. Interesting question. Edit to clarify: She had to specifically seek out unsugared PB brands, because Jif and others were well sweetened.
  • Ran to the Y and back. Lifted while I was there. Then flopped onto the sofa to watch a Clint Eastwood movie. Hope everyone's having a good weekend!
  • I usually let this sort of conversation pass by without comment, but this has been interesting. Santa is definitely useful to help believers and non-believers understand each other. As someone raised in a family that has been secular for generations, it was difficult for me to understand how faith worked in a religious…
  • Only anecdotally. I was allergic to corn and certain processed meat additives from about age 25 to 35. No problems with them before that, or after.
  • Two of the kids and I met my dad at the lake. Swam around a bit. Ate sandwiches and fruit. The kids hopped in the canoe and took off, so Dad and I took the opportunity to swim across the lake and back. Very relaxing, and nice to catch up with Dad. He said I was "looking fit." High praise from him. :)
  • July 3: July 5: Today/July 28: After recovering from multiple road trips and too much restaurant food, I'm finally at 185!! This is the weight I was when I met my hubs, and is the weight at which the bodyfat test predicts I hit a low health risk bodyfat percentage. New mini-goal: 175, which would be a 20-year low.
  • Breakfast. Usually 2 fried eggs, whole-wheat toast, and coffee. :)
  • Mmm... Triscuits. I have to portion them out then put the box away. I will eat the whole thing if I'm not careful.
  • I added some zucchini ribbons to the spaghetti tonight. Trying to boost the nutritional profile. The kids knew it was there, but begrudgingly ate it anyway. :)
  • Thanks for the reminder! Just had the last slice of veggie pizza. :)
  • Hubs took the kids to see Spider-Man tonight, so I took the opportunity to loiter at the gym a little longer than usual. Ran 3 miles, then did some strength work. Looking forward to tomorrow. Going to the lake with my dad to swim and canoe. He's just returned from a lengthy trip to Europe (my mom is still there), so it'll…
  • I get lots of fruit in but am actively working on increasing my veg quantity and variety.
  • This is my new weight-loss battle cry. "SAVE ME FROM THE LUUUUMPS!!"
  • Of course. That wasn't the question asked.
  • Not sure the evidence supports this position.
  • Yes. Preference is all that matters here. One or the other, or both, or neither. I'm OK with the treadmill. I'm super awkward on the elliptical. I can read on the stationary bike. I really enjoy the rowing machine. So pretty much anything BUT the elliptical. :)
  • That sounds really unpleasant. Sorry to hear it. I get like that when 1) I haven't eaten enough that day, 2) I crash after I've eaten carbs without protein or fats, or 3) I'm tired or sleep-deprived. How much are you eating, and are you sensitive to blood sugar swings? Are you sleeping? How much are you exercising?
  • Taking a break while on my bike ride today. I hadn't realized that they'd extended my local bike path so far. I'm at 7 miles at the turn-around, and my longest ride before this was just 12 total.
  • Good! Glad to be able to help. I thought I might lose you with the herring suggestion. ;)
  • Of course. Clearly, the logical assumption to make, when reading such a post, is that the poster is ACTUALLY a cannibal. Not that they're just participating in a joke already in progress. Excellent use of critical thinking skills. This is why we can't have nice things.
  • My daytime meals are mostly just a series of 200-300 cal snacks. - Plain yogurt, fruit of any kind, and almonds or peanut butter mixed in - Veggies (red pepper, broccoli, carrots) and hummus or guacamole - Fruit of any kind, and nuts or cheese - Herring or sardines, and Wasa or Triscuit crackers - Hard-boiled eggs -…
  • Yes! My 5-lb scale died after many years of good use -- it starting flickering between wildly different weights, even after changing the batteries -- so I ordered the 22-lb Oxo. Very excited. :)
  • @gradchica27 - Ouch! I'm glad you're mostly OK. That could have been really, really bad.
  • I know; it's hard when you want to be nice. You could add an "I'm sorry" if it makes you feel better. Just remember that they did it even though you told them not to. They disregarded your wishes. You have zero obligation here.
  • Good job! It drives me a little nuts when I explicitly tell people I don't want anything, and yet they do it anyway. I'm getting better at saying no. I look surprised and say, "Oh! I thought you heard me when I said I didn't want anything. Maybe someone else will want it."
  • My last run in the south was 85F and 91% humidity. I'm back home now and ran 3m in 60F and 68% humidity. Sooo much easier.
