  • Was changing clothes at lunchtime to spend some time on the bike trainer in the basement, but then noticed my husband getting the puppy ready for a long walk in the sun. Hmm. Basement bike or sunny puppy? Walkies wins! There was much chasing of sticks and flapping of furry ears.
  • I’m so glad she seems to be OK. That’s terrifying! Had to give an all-day training today using unfamiliar technology. Anxious and exhausted. Then got a call from the school principal about my youngest child. Angry and disappointed. It’s the perfect storm for overeating and bailing on exercise, which I didn’t make time to…
  • Weight gain, hair growth, and no periods/infertility. Lowish carb helps keep my hunger under control. That and vigorous exercise helps me meet my calorie goals, which helps me lose weight. I’ve seen studies that show women with PCOS may have lower than expected resting calorie requirements, so that’s something to check out…
  • Got to the Y and every treadmill was in use. People were lining up. But as usual, no takers for the rower! So I hopped on for a nice 30 minutes. But I still had to train, so then I found an empty treadmill and ran for 3 miles. More than I expected to do, but now I can have tonight’s Chinese food and still maintain my…
  • I replaced my 20-yr-old 11-lb Oxo with the 22-lb one. Game changer.
  • We went to the movies last night. I was in the restroom and a couple of young women came in who were at a healthy weight. I saw them, then turned and saw all three of us together. I wasn’t significantly larger than them. I was taller, sure, because I’m taller than most women, but I didn’t look significantly bigger. I might…
  • Sucks, doesn’t it? I think it feels like someone’s taken fine-grit sandpaper to my face. I was prescribed metro gel, but it didn’t help. Wine and skin dryness are my two big triggers. No more wine for me, except on holidays. I wash my face with plain water, coconut oil, or an ultra-gentle cleanser. I moisturize with a mix…
  • I have the 22-lb one. I love it beyond reason.
  • My pajamas alone weigh 1.4 lbs. It adds up quick.
  • I’m in the Target at this very moment, shopping for jeans for my 12-year-old son. It’s somewhat easier than buying jeans for me. I’m standing here in jeans that are too big and I won’t even try buying some for myself until I have to.
  • This made me laugh. I’m the prez/CFO but work remotely. I’ve started making my staff take walking meetings with me. I’m in CT and they’re in NC, so we grab our cell phones, a pad of paper and a pen, and walk around our respective neighborhoods. The added benefit is that they all have shared offices so they get a little…
  • You may well need a new scale, but have you checked the batteries first? I have a Withings scale as well. The Bluetooth connection to my phone app isn’t super reliable for me, so I just enter the number manually.
  • This is common. You need to go first. It may mean timing your run, or your food/coffee, or your wake-up time. I occasionally do a warm-up lap around the my block if I haven’t taken care of it before I leave.
  • Pretty much any protein or fat. Carbs eaten alone (starchy veg, grains, or sweets) leave me hungrier than when I started.
  • Your scale can only accurately measure water or other liquids of equal density in milliliters (ml). That’s because 1g of water equals 1 ml. Weigh your ice cream. They intend a serving to be 125 grams, but you can eat whatever amount suits your caloric and nutritional needs.
  • Another vote for the Oxo. I have the one that weighs up to 22 lbs. I can weigh entire meals in my cast iron pot.
  • I used to have hip pain when running. For years. I switched to barefoot and then minimalist shoes for a while, which caused a shorter, gliding stride. Pain went away. I’ve gone back to a lightly cushioned shoe and kept my revised stride. All is well.
  • Hubs and I both skipped breakfast to save calories for lunch out. When we got to the restaurant, we saw a plate of nachos being delivered to another patron. It looked awesome, but the portion was huge. We could have each fit the whole portion into our calorie goals, but it was more than we wanted. So we split one! That’s…
  • Boo! I hate no-running jail. But yay on the progress toward racing weight!
  • Beautiful day today! Ran 3m outside — the first time off the treadmill in a while. Lovely, sunny day, and perfect running temps.
  • You’ll eat your 1800 calories every day. On days you workout, you can also eat those cals (just be conservative in your estimate). The exercise cals are gravy. Perhaps literally. :)
  • 30 minutes on the bike trainer, listening to business podcasts. Employee utilization metrics. Fascinating. :-/
  • I have.
  • Yesterday: Half-assed yoga. Today: Treadmill run. Made up a new game: Playlist Half-life. First 16 min, easy pace. Increasing speed after 8, 4, 2, and the last 1 was a full sprint.
  • Got up stupid early to meet a deadline, and struggled with it until 2pm. Then I threw my laptop out the window (although I may have imagined that part), and went to the pool. Just me and the lifeguard. It helped. I’ll get back to work soon. But first: Coffee.
  • The kids are home for a snow day, which would typically mean a lie-in for me. But the snow and ice won’t be here until about 9am so I took the opportunity to get out while I could. Hit treadmill at the Y for 3m. Back home by 8am!
  • Bailed on my bike ride yesterday (burned out and not making good decisions after a rough day), so I rode today at lunch and will do today’s scheduled yoga just before bed.
  • I agree. This is our puppy, who came home with us this weekend!
  • Some of my tops and shorts/leggings have pockets. When I’m not wearing one of them, I wear a Spibelt. If I’m running long and want to carry water, I have an old hydration belt with pockets.
