I experience a significant increase in hunger for the two days preceding the start of my period. Like another poster, I only recognized this in the last few years. I am not sure if that’s because I have paid more attention to my cycle or because I have paid more attention to my weight and calorie intake. (Both of those are…

No, you definitely should. I feel like the minority opinions around here sometimes get bulldozed over by all the people regurgitating the same info over and over again. I am not personally interested in eating a keto diet. But I do appreciate other points of view, and sometimes I learn a great deal from reading about other…

You’re doing fine. Going over you calorie target once in awhile is no big deal. It’s what you do the majority of the time that matters. Consistency over perfection.

Don’t let your husband put pressure on you to lose weight. It will only make your struggle more difficult, and that sounds like the last thing you need right now. I think you should start simple by eating what you want and just recording it on the app. Do it for a week without trying to restrict your calorie intake at all.…

I can sympathize with you, but I think you will find that most people will gladly accommodate your needs if you can find a way to let them know what those needs are. Don’t assume that your needs should come secondary to anyone else’s needs. As others have pointed out, you are also a paying member of the gym. You have as…

Well, after reading these responses, I would fit most of your definitions of a picky eater. I hate fish of all kinds. The smell of it even bothers me. I hate beans because of the texture of them, but I do enjoy garbanzos and edamame (if you count them as beans?). I am also not a fan of many vegetables. There are some that…

I don’t even count my water. Some days I feel like I drink a lot, other days not so much. I don’t really spend much time thinking about it.

For me, it is usually within 2 pounds. And it can show as a loss or a gain. Some people have reported bigger fluctuations than that, though, so I think it probably varies by individual. You’d have to spend some time weighing daily in order to see how your own body works.

To the boldest: Yes, pretty much. I use the evil measuring cup for some things and I sometimes log things a gram more or less than what I actually ate. I even estimate whole meals when I go out to restaurants. I am aware that my method is not the popular one that most people adhere to on MFP. But it works for me, and it…

Directly from a Runner’s World article: “Running a mile and walking a mile aren’t going to burn dramatically different calorie amounts, says Alex Harrison, Ph.D., a USA Track & Field-certified run coach and sport performance coach for Renaissance Periodization. However, it’s going to take you a lot longer to do the…

Interesting replies. I have been an off and on MFP user for a few years. I have never added a friend and I don’t plan to do so. I do enjoy some of the forums, but I feel like it’s too much work to try to keep up with what other people are doing. It’s enough to just focus on myself. In truth, I am not big on social media at…

Generally speaking, you burn about 100 calories per mile. If your treadmill estimate is close to that, then it’s probably close enough.

I have been on a diet break for the past 2 weeks, actively trying to eat at maintenance (and mostly succeeding). I weigh myself every day and have found that I have actually lost 1/2 pound, overall. So, as long as you are eating at your true maintenance, your weight should stay pretty much the same. Now, within the past 13…

I think this is a very individual thing. I am a person who struggles in the winter. I tend to move less and eat more when it’s cold outside, which is (obvs) not conducive to losing weight. But, I have a friend who says she is the opposite. And we live in the same area.

I did a half marathon once, but I don’t think you want to hear about my experience. It was not pleasant and I will never do another one. Lots of people enjoy that distance, though, and you may be one of them. Good luck!

If you are asking about appearance or clothing fit, I haven’t noticed anything yet (down about 15 pounds). But, I have noticed my general fitness has improved and my wedding band is much more comfortable. I feel like my overall mood has improved, as well. ETA: Regarding clothing, I have noticed my bras are fitting better.…

I weigh every morning except when I am out of town because I only like to use my own scale. I use the toilet first, but I wear whatever clothes I slept in. As someone else said, it is the consistency that matters more than the details. ETA: I also use Happy Scale and still weigh during my cycle.

Welcome to MFP. Best advice is to read the forums, even if you aren’t posting. There are a lot of very well informed people here who often share their knowledge and advice. You can learn a lot from them even when you didn’t know that you had a question.

I am about to go on a diet break and had no idea what I should use for maintenance calories other than a vague notion of using “past data.” So, thank you for this. I am bumping it up for others who may need it too (and saving it for later when I finally reach true maintenance).

What about something loud, like an air horn? It could be loud enough to damage a person’s hearing if used up close, and at the very least it would help you to signal for help.

I was going to suggest conversation. If you are eating alone, you could try reciting something in your mind between each bite. Something that is mindless, but takes a minute to do. Like, when kids are instructed to sing happy birthday while washing their hands to ensure they do a decent job. I cringe whenever I see people…

You are doing so good! You deserve a break. I was planning my first break to take place in about 2 weeks, but I have inadvertently ended up eating at maintenance the past 3 days due to some crazy hunger (possibly PMS). So, I may just stay here for a bit. I haven’t quite decided. Definitely skim over that link. There is…

$160? Really? I used Nuvaring when it first came out and it was $50 without insurance. My, how times have changed. LOL! Unfortunately, I cannot help you with your question.

I read somewhere once (maybe here on MFP) that vanity sizing is not actually a thing. The explanation has always stuck with me. Apparently clothing manufacturers make a size 12 to fit the average sized woman. So, as the average size woman got larger, so did a size 12. Other sizes are cut larger or smaller than the size 12,…

While these situations are terrible, it isn’t really fair to say the doctors involved caused (or nearly caused) the patients’ deaths. Doctors are human, and that makes them imperfect. Yes, they can misdiagnose a patient which may exacerbate an existing issue, but to blame a doctor for a death from a disease is a bit…

Family issues aside, I think a lot of people fall into the trap of thinking that losing weight is entirely reliant on willpower. It’s not. You need to develop the habits that will make willpower unnecessary. I find it easiest to put all my focus on a single day. So, tell yourself that today you will stay on track. Don’t…

You should not rely on the prediction, anyway. It’s not accurate.

Yes, it is normal. Just because two people weigh the same on a scale doesn’t mean they carry the weight the same way. Your friend may be more (or less) muscular than you. Or you may just be genetically blessed to have larger legs and a smaller torso.

I am not an expert, but it sounds like you are pushing too hard. Like when football players go so hard at practice that they end up puking. From your post, it sounds like you went from doing no running to running a 10k in about 2 months. I don’t know your fitness or activity level before you started running, but that seems…

In addition to keeping a slow pace, I like to moderate my breathing so that is a pattern. It helps me get through the tough moments when I want to stop even though I know I can continue. So, I breathe in on left foot strike, breathe out on third or fourth left foot strike after breathing in. After a while of practicing, it…
