  • @angmarie28 - Wow - that is an incredible race story! I cannot imagine running for that long in the heat regardless - and to have managed all that with a sore hip and only a long run of 9 miles certainly proves that you have incredible moxy! Congrats on a fabulous finish - even if it wasn't official.
  • @Elise4270 - so glad you were able to run after that injury! Being able to place first in AG is yummy icing on that cake
  • @BettyM1017 , @amymoreorless , @bruins_girl , and @skippygirlsmom and all the other sweaty runners - I am glad to know that I am not alone. As I run along the trail I have found myself watching to see if there is anyone else as sweaty as me rather than checking out their speed, lol. Almost never see anyone else even close.…
  • @angemarie23 - you could try adding tart cherry juice. While I am very skeptical about the science behind this, there are reports (again, wouldn't call them studies) that showed better results in runners who consumed several glasses of tart cherry juice for a few weeks before long races. The tart cherries are supposed to…
  • I got overwhelmed with life in June - made my goal and got over 100 miles in - but did not get back to this site after about mid June. It is so easy to get behind with all the posts. Anyway, this month appears to be a bigger challenge to my running - in part due to a vacation with lots of hiking. So, I will set my goal as…

  • Awesome job on your race!
  • @MNLittleFinn - CONGRATULATIONS - you are a MARATHON RUNNER! I don't think I could have run that many miles in that heat. Strong work!
  • @PastorVincent - "I remember after my first full I was walking down the street heading to bag check to get my bag and there was curb in front of me. I could not quite get my leg up onto it. Ran flippen 26 miles, but a curb bested me in the end LOL" HaHa - I ran my first full at the end of April. My husband had parked about…
  • June Goal - make myself get up at 4am to get in a run at least one day per week. June 2 - 6.7 miles of gravel road hills June 3 - 5 miles of even steeper gravel road hills. June 4 - 7.1 miles - before a hike with weighted backpack June 6 - WooHoo I did it! Ran before work! 5.1 miles at 5am - 72 degrees and 90% humidity…
  • @Elise4270 - so sorry about the hip - but that bike looks awesome and you are going to be so ready to come back and kill that October race after all those squats and lunges to strengthen your hip/glutes. @MNLittleFinn - Best wishes on your Marathon! You are far better prepared than most for the first - Enjoy! @lporter229 -…
  • So I would not count myself as one of the people who have it figured out. I also wouldn't count myself as someone who just really loves running, though, either. So I thought I might have a different perspective from some of the people who just do this out of pure love/addiction, lol. I started about 2 years ago. I could…
  • @Bakins929 - Congrats on your anniversary! My husband really wants to do that hike. @kgirlhart - Great job on having your pace get faster during all this heat! No run today - but weight training and a Spinning class tomorrow - maybe I can work a run in there as well.

  • @girlinahat - Good job restarting Stronglifts - I have let that go by the wayside and am trying to get someone in my family to restart it with me. I find it hard to self motivate to lift weights. @RespectTheKitty - So impressed that you just got up and kept going! I highly suspect I would have gotten up and headed back at…

  • @hanlonsk - Great race - love the OR gowns - and really impressed that you only took 30 seconds or so for that woods break. That is even more impressive than the race itself!! @RespectTheKitty - Beware the Garmin tan line - forget to wear it and you get the Garmin watch burn - and then the peeling wrist strap area - I know…
  • @KatieJane83 - Great job on that PR! It really does make training more fun! My run today was ...humid. But it was nice to be back home where my run only had 346 feet of elevation gain. I can tell my legs are tired from the hills. And if they weren't already - then adding on a 4 mile hike with an extra 20# strapped to my…
  • Poor sleep can really impact your long runs. I know I got really discouraged after doing a long run post call and just being miserable and surprised about how slow and difficult it was. The next run - and more importantly -the marathon - were better.
  • Many smaller races will have deals - and some larger ones do as well. For instance, the Carmel Marathon changed the weekend they are having their race next year, and so they offered the Marathon for $31 (it is going to be on the 31st of March) for one weekend if you signed up then. Usually one of the local 10 mile - HM…
  • Ok - I did not make my May goal. I had my lowest running mileage month in a long time (maybe a little mental lapse from my first full Marathon on 4/22). This month I have about 11-12 days that I will be on a hiking vacation with hikes going anywhere from 8 miles to over 20 miles per day. I doubt I will manage to run on…
  • @RespectTheKitty - Sorry it didn't work out for you. I really am - But it doesn't seem like you "need" to race. You already seem to enjoy running just to be doing it. Many of us sign up for races just to motivate our lazy selves to get out the door and run. You do this well on your own. If the "thrill of the race" isn't…
  • I am not the most learned runner and definitely not the fastest runner on here. But I have little doubt you can accomplish those things. I am MUCH older than you, could not run a mile when I started and essentially did all of what you are mentioning on a similar timetable while running no more than 3 days a week. I also…
  • So I am fairly new to this site and a much more low mileage and lots of days off runner than most. I didn't think I would ever find my last post - it was 9 pages back, lol. You people are crazy runners - and I am saying that with a huge smile on my face and lots of admiration in my voice. (Emoji-less at the moment) I…
  • @ereck44 - I just did the Carmel Marathon. I know it is boring in some ways compared to the Mini, but it does have some advanatages. Sounds like you have run the Mini several times, but I always hear from those who do that it is just miserable on the track and that it is so crowded you never get to where you aren't worried…
  • @_nikkiwolf_ - Fabulous job on the Marathon PR!! @claireariela - Welcome- there are others that will have more expert advice on getting started, but I usually recommend getting fitted at a running store for the right pair of running shoes for you and then starting with somethink like Couch to 5k app if it has been 5 years…
