  • If you are going in with a casual attitude and have no time expectations, I think you can certainly do it. If this was your first marathon, I wouldn't recommend it, but you have experience. If you plan on running and chatting and having fun, I think it will seem easy to you! I wouldn't stress about getting a 20 miler in.…
  • Boston - 4/18/16 Cincinnati Flying Pig - 5/1/16, distance is tbd--I need to see what Boston does to me. I will run the 5k with my kids on 4/30/16. Ideally, I would like to do the hm the next day. Peachtree Road Race -10k, 7/4/16 Chicago Marathon - 10/9/16, goal is sub 3 hours. Thanksgiving Day Race -10k There will be more…
  • If it has been nagging for weeks, then it is probably time to see the orthopedic. MRI might tell you what it is or at least exclude some things.
  • I entered a week ago with guaranteed entry for time. Chicago is easy driving distance for me, so I am glad I don't have to mess with flying. I am excited about the flat course and hoping to break 3 hours there.
  • Does it hurt when you press on it? If it is a localized pain, it could be a stress fracture.
  • Heart Mini Marathon yesterday. There is a 15k and half marathon along with some shorter events later in the morning. I did the half marathon and finished first overall with a time of 1:25:44. I think I had 2 hours of sleep the night before--stupid anxiety inducing time change. I got a laurel. I got a gift certificate for a…
  • I do many treadmill runs, when training for a race or not. I credit it for making me a better runner despite the hate the treadmill gets! My go-to workout is a 10 mile progression run and do it a couple of times each week. I will start out slow (for me) and use that as a warm up. I speed up every minute .1 mph for the…
  • Bockfest 5k. First female and 17th overall (men and women). Official time is 18:50. I got a sash and a 6 pack of beer.
  • I spin and I am glued to the elliptical on cross training days. Some weeks I am on the elliptical more than I run. I am prone to stress fractures so I am am a huge cross trainer.
  • Good for you for having flexibility with your training! Don't ignore your aches and pains just to get a run in. Many of my workouts are determined the day of, based on how I feel when I roll out of bed. I will probably start my Boston training late Jan/early Feb. I am maintaining a strong base and taking things…
  • Jingle Bell 5k on Saturday, December 12. 19:44 and first overall woman. It was my last race of the year.
  • I haven't reported in awhile, but have had a decent few months of racing. I did the local Thanksgiving 10K even though I am still struggling with a stress fracture in my fibula. I hadn't ran since my marathon on Nov. 1. Thanksgiving 10k time was 40:11 which was good enough for 5th overall out of 7200+ women. I did NYC…
  • Alone. I have a runner friend who runs with a group. I have run with them a few times. Not only is the pace not completely compatible, they like to run at times when I'd rather be sleeping. I do not like getting up to run at 5 am in the cold. Sometimes if they run later I may go, but not when I am looking to get want of my…
  • See you there Moby. I registered Monday and got the email yesterday. My qualifying race was this year's Boston, so it wasn't hard to verify,
  • I struggle more with stomach issues in the heat and humidity. Mine is usually GI problems which really sucks. I think my problem is dehydration--looking toward to fall weather ( can't believe I said that because that means winer is coming and I HATE winter.).
  • Small local 5k this morning. I trained hard yesterday (run and bike) and don't do that the day before racing. I saw this race late yesterday and decided to see how my body felt in the morning. Set a new PR of 19:11. I was first female and 2nd runner overall. Did I mention it was a puny little race?
  • A friend of mine has that issue. She loves running skirts with the built in tight shorts.
  • Congrats, that's great!
  • I love the usefulness of the treadmill. I am a seasoned runner and spend a lot of time on the treadmill, especially in the winter--I hate running in snow. You can do great workouts on the treadmill--I love hills. I do get outside mostly in the nicer months and like others say, it is different outside. I have a newbie…
  • Feel free to add me. I love marathons, but physically can only handle 2/year. I also really like 10K races. I just did the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th. I crushed my former PR.
  • I guesstimate my mileage on my shoes. I mostly can tell because they begin to wear in the same areas. I pushed the limits of an old pair once and realized I had worn a hole through the bottom! I replace more often now.
  • There was a period while I was recovery from a femoral stress fracture this past winter and the ONLY cardio I could do was swim. I joined a gym so I could have a pool. The gym also had a seated elliptical machine that I would use just with my arms (I would prop my legs up). I also focused heavily on weights and core…
  • I used to be a "C", but now I am more "A" with a little "B". Running will always be my first love, but I am learning to really like cycling. Husband got me a beautiful carbon fiber bike for my milestone birthday last year and I am spending more and more time on it. I had to embrace swimming this past winter while I…
  • Yep, last year's pic.
  • I'm in 2/7. i was 2/1 last year! I am excited even though training was completely not what I wanted. I had a stress fracture in my femur. It still isn't a 100%, but good enough for a marathon. The orthopedic seems ok with me running. Boston is so special. There was no way I was missing it. lporter229- 8 minutes? You can do…
  • I chose the bus since it is closer to where I am. I hate having to catch it so early and then wait around for so long. That is the nice thing about small races. You park 2 blocks away and show up 15 minutes before start.
  • Not to hijack, but I will be at Boston too! I'm not really tapering since I had 2 months off with injury. I am trying to get back somewhere close to where I was. I am doing very little running this week, but hitting the elliptical like crazy. What is your wave/corral assignment?
  • I really need to study this since I will be running my first NYC this year. I am staying in the Times Square area. I have a nervous bladder before races so you have given something else to think about.
  • I have been a runner for over 17 years. I am content with my current weight, so I guess I'm maintaining? I have a marathon in about 3 weeks (Boston) and I had to halt my training in February--I had a stress fracture in my femur. I have slowly started running again, but have been cross training like a mad woman. I know…
  • During my last marathon in September, I was stopped by a freight train. The train stopped in place on the tracks--it was around mile 2-3 I believe. Runners were going over it between cars and some ran around it. I opted to go over it and stay on course since I couldn't tell how far it was to the front of the train. It was…
