  • I was late to the half marathon game and ran my first hm race after I had done a marathon. I don't remember exactly, but was in the 1:52-54 range. My hm pr was in March 2016 and was 1:25. I seem to be hovering around 1:26 this year. My hm split in my recent marathons have been 1:27-1:29. Ftr, I am a woman over 40.
  • I did WDW marathon this past year. It Wass fun, but man it starts early! Ironically, I have had something going on with my back for 2 weeks and still can't quite shake it.
  • Hyde Park Blast this past Saturday. It is a decent sized local race and an odd distance, 4 miles. I wasn't enthusiastic to race. I have had back pain for the past 2 weeks. It comes and goes and sometimes it is hard to take a deep breath without pain. My plan was just to survive and put out a decent effort. Final time was…
  • Way to go @MobyCarp ! As another distance runner, I stress about mile races more than anything else. Give me 3 hours of marathoning over 5-6 minutes of pure pain!
  • I have have always thought back to back harder efforts could never happen. I guess 20 days was enough for recovery? I felt pretty good after Boston. I ran one 14 miler and one 16 miler (at marathon pace because that is how I do it) before The Pig--anything else I ran was shorter. What is even odder is how good I feel…
  • Flying Pig Marathon yesterday....not sure how, but managed 2nd female overall in a time of 2:59:55. I was just going to run this for fun but felt pretty good. Man, that is a hard course--those hills! I am super excited since this is my hometown marathon.
  • Tough to follow @MobyCarp 's successful post.... I ran a teeny local 5k on Sunday. I was there just to represent Fleet Feet at our booth. I was offered a comp entry and thought I'd run it for fun. Then I thought I would go a little harder and use it as a speed workout. I was first OA female and 3rd OA. Time was 19:59,…
  • @MobyCarp - I bow to you--fantastic job!
  • Ran a little race in Boston yesterday. It was a little warm, but I seem to race better in warmer temps. I felt good throughout most of the race, except for some cramping in my left hamstring the last two miles. I wasn't sure how aggressively I should push at that point. I didn't want to be one of those people on the side…
  • I forgot to post this earlier in the week. I ran the Heart Mini Marathon on March 12. They offer a 15k and half marathon. I always seem to go with the longer distance if there is a choice. I thought about bailing on this one: it was going to be cold (20-22 degrees), we had a formal event to go to the night before and would…
  • A dozen donuts? As in 12 ? Were they regular sized? I am intrigued and speechless.
  • Thanks! I enjoyed the experience. I am trying to decide if I am finished with the WDW Marathon or if I have more to do. I think I want to go back and compete hard. I hate to say it, but I got passed by two women in the last .25 mile. At the time I didn't care, but now it is bugging me to no end!
  • Disney marathon on Sunday. This was a "for fun" race for me. Official time was 3:07:07, which put me 9th overall and 1st in AG (technically 2nd, but OA 3rd place was in my AG and you placed in that). I stopped twice for character pics. Start time was outside my comfort zone--5:30, which meant I got up at 3 am! So not me! I…
  • I am running my first Disney marathon. I signed up on a whim in October. My family is Disney obsessed and I am running obsessed so it just kind of fit. I am planning on racing it, but not taking this race nearly as seriously as my major marathons. I am aiming for somewhere between 3:05-3:10, but won't be crushed if that…
  • Thanksgiving Day Race (10K) - 40:33, 19th overall woman, 2nd in AG. I knew competition was going to be tough this year--there were several Olympic Trials Marathon qualifiers. I originally was aiming for under 40 minutes, but started with a really bad cold/virus a few days before (I am STILL having coughing fits). Race…
  • Congrats on a fantastic race! Way to push at the end when that is the hardest time to dig deep. We hit the race weather lottery this weekend! My friend did Portland marathon yesterday and my cousin did a 15k in upstate New York. Both had cold, rainy, miserable conditions!
  • I ran the Chicago Marathon yesterday and just squeaked under 3 hours with a time of 2:59:41. It was a great race with fantastic fall weather. The course is just as flat as promised! Chicago also has the American Development program which I got to be part of (women need to submit a time of less than 3:01). We had our own…
  • I had my first DNS this year and couldn't be more at peace with my decision. It was a race requiring a hotel stay. It made no sense to run a mediocre race and shell out more $$$. I was happy to cut my losses and work on healing.
  • Locally, I wear my team/club shirt (although sometimes I do my own thing). Bigger, destination races I am know what I will be wearing before I leave my house (and with a backup if the weather takes a total dive in the other direction). I love to wear my freebie shirt the following week. I see lots of people wearing the…
  • I ran a 5K yesterday, just a local race for a very good cause--Sophie's Angel Run. This was the 10th year of this race but my first time doing it--I have always had other races this weekend. Also, it starts at 1 pm which isn't my ideal race time. I finished first female and 6th runner overall (out of 1300 or so). My time…
  • Ran a one mile race on Thursday evening. It was just for fun with my son's middle school cross country team making up a bulk of the entrants. I was first female at 5:48. I was ok with my time since I am NOT in one mile racing shape, but I still got beaten by 3-4 8th grade boys. One of our boys ran a 5:14 mile. At age 13.…
  • Nope, doesn't matter at all. In the end it will still come down to time of your qualifying race time.
  • I would run the first one and race the second one.
  • Besides the physical training, the long run is essential mental training. After you conquer that 20 miler, you will be in a good place mentally. I have done many marathons and can say I still don't jump up and down with excitement when I have to do a long run.
  • If by beast you mean sloth, then that describes my last few months perfectly.
  • I do my long runs fast--not full marathon pace, but within 15-20 second per mile pace. I also try to run even miles in marathons but it does depend on the course. I feel like I am flying the first half of Boston because of the downhill. The second half, I make a deal with myself to make it through the hills and then see…
  • My brush with greatness at this year's Boston Marathon expo. And yes, he is so tall!
  • During the summer, I get anywhere from 6.5-7.5 hours, usually the lower end. When school starts back up, it is usually around 5-6. My kids' schedules are tough on my sleep. I know when I am overtraining because i sleep even less and have a lot of trouble staying asleep. Sleep and I have been frenemies for years.
  • It was Flying Pig weekend, my favorite weekend in Cincinnati. As much as I would have loved to do the full Marathon or the half, it was too soon after Boston. I am old and it takes longer to recover! I was invited to compete as an elite in the one mile race Friday night. Omg, that was hard! I am not a miler and have some…
  • I FINALLY got a marathon PR--it took awhile. I broke 3 hours at Boston yesterday, clocking in with 2:58:20. I was 5th in my age group and 64th woman. Running a sub 3 hour marathon was on my list and I am thrilled it happened at Boston. It was a little warm at the start, but I don't mind the heat. Winds picked up and temp…
