Fage 0% plain, then I add jam. I love full-fat yogurts, but they're too fat spendy for me.

I buy store the store brand 2%, don't know the name. I definitely prefer 4% but the 2% fat is good enough...fat-free cottage cheese is inedible, IMHO.

The guy who (progressive strength) trains me just rolled his eyes when I told him my doctor recommended adding cardio 5X a week. He said "People are already in a cardio state ... now do three sets of eight."

I warm up the oatmeal (precooked), then put the yogurt on the side. Nice warm and cold contrast. Plus maple syrup!

Some people find that exercise close to bedtime is activating. I notice this effect even with a 4pm workout.

Just wanted to say there's some good company here: Yeats, Heaney, Dickinson, Frost, Rumi, Oliver. And you can never have too many silly limericks! I'm partial to Elizabeth Bishop myself. (MFA Poetry, 1982)

I had a shoulder replacement for OA at 59 and it's been great, allowed me to start doing a progressive lifting routine. I'm hopeful that building strength in upper body and losing extra weight will help me avoid needing surgery in the other shoulder (so far so good). They now have artificial joints for younger, more active…

I think the science isn't very convincing around cholesterol measurement, risks, or treatment, and many doctors seem to be clinging to outmoded ideas, especially the notion that lowering dietary cholesterol will significantly lower blood cholesterol. Individual risk factors should be a big part of whether to treat.
-
I had a shoulder replacement and was much weaker on the surgical side. Been doing progressive strength training for 6 months and that arm has caught up nicely w/ the other w/ no extra work. It's like my body knows it wants to be symmetrical or something.

Sadly I don't run that much faster than I walk...and running makes me a lot hungrier. So from a weight loss standpoint walking makes the most sense.

Homemade chicken, barley, vegetable soup. Clementine. Fresh mozarella.

I eat a small snack before I go to bed if I feel bona fide hunger at any level. Otherwise, I wind up waking, craving buttered toast (carb & fat?) and milk (sugar?). Which is not such a bad thing, but I'd rather sleep through.

I was ravenous last Wednesday. I chalk that up to the fact that it was snowing (!)

I second jgnatcha's lucky iron fish idea. I don't need the extra iron, since I'm postmenopausal, but it's SUCH a cool idea.
-
I think the comments re "water weight" are probably on target. A side note, though: Cardio is famous for making people really hungry and then of course they eat more.

I went and got fitted at the place where the runners go...tried everything on and wound up with a pair of Brooks running shoes a size and an half bigger than I thought I was. I'm just walking, not running, but my feet feel great! The value of good professional advice.

Similar situation here. I've been lifting and tracking (but not restricting calories) over the last 6 months, and I've lost inches but not weight. What does your tape measure say? If you are losing inches, you're building muscle, which is a very good thing. The muscle burns more calories, plus looks and feels good! Now…

Weight loss may or may not help the apnea. Some people (like me) just have the anatomy for it.
-
I went to the store where the runners go to get fitted and they put me in a size and a half larger than I thought I was. So ... I didn't know what I didn't know all those years I was buying shoes w/o expert advice.

I got off a statin because of muscle pain and tried RYR for a while. The active ingredient is basically lovastatin...so you are effectively taking a very low dose of that. I got a small lowering of LDL w/ no muscle pain, which I probably would have gotten if I'd been taking a really low dose of prescription med. There are…

Steel cut, 30 minutes on 50% in the microwave. I make a cup of the dry oats and w/ an apple or some golden raisins, and that makes 4 servings, which I eat over the week w/ 1/2 c Greek yogurt and 1T of syrup.

Pre-logging every day in the morning has been working for me. It's a plan, and I like plans. If I eat something I haven't planned, it goes in "Snacks." So far I don't totally understand why I feel the need to eat those unplanned snacks, but boredom/frustration is at the top of the list. I think there's truth in the idea…

10am saturday morning, after breakfast has digested a bit but coffee still going strong!

Just want to say thank you to those who fit shoes and know what they're doing. I'd been wearing a size and a half too small--no wonder my feet and shins hurt! I love my new shoes, but if I had a problem I know I could take them back and you'd replace them. Worth it IMHO.

A massage therapist once recommended adding 1/2 gallon of ACV to a hot bath, which I tried. It made my skin feel nice but my kids wouldn't shut up about the smell for months!

Just want to be sure my previous comment doesn't come off as being anti-medication in any way. If you need it, it can be life changing. I second Karmc2k's advice on seeing a psychiatrist vs. a GP if you (or anyone else) needs to go that way.

I think everyone has given you good advice here re carbs (eat more) and cardio (do less), then see how you feel. I'm a depressive from way back who carefully tapered off antidepressants and has been off them for over a year. So far so good. I will add that SLEEP is a huge factor in how I feel. Sleeping OK, are you? If not,…

This is just too cool for word: www.luckyironfish.com

I second the comment about shoes. I got myself fitted at a reputable place and they put me in a 9! This after I've been thinking all these years I'm a 7 1/2. Also gave me a shoe w/ more support because my poor arches have fallen. Get thee to the shoe store in your area where they know what they're doing.

It may be because, being animals after all, we are programmed to gobble up everything we can while we can because we may not have another chance to eat maybe ever again! Also, we are predisposed to think anything sweet or fatty is the absolute bomb because that's what will sustain us over the next time we're starving,…
