  • I went crazy on cookies this year. My region generally gets cookies from Little Brownie Bakers which makes your standard Samoas and Tagalogs. For the last two years though, I've had a "connection" to someone with access to the cookies that ABC bakers makes. Far superior. Their S'Mores cookies are divine (much better than…
  • We have fitness centers run by our local park authority. They have pools, weights, treadmills, basketball courts, etc. You can buy a membership or just pay per use.
  • If my sweet tooth is out of control (like it is now), I have to start out as an abstainer. Once the cravings dip, I can moderate. I have all the healthy little controlled portions at the house, but right now if I eat one, I end up eating 4. Not good.
  • How are your shoes?
  • So, I actually don't feel I have an injury. I have not run since the weekend and my knees feel great now. So it goes away. The first 12 hours after running are the worst and by the 24 hour mark the pain and shuffling are almost 100% gone. By hour 48, all gone. I've been working hard to shorten my stride and slow myself…
  • Just stating again that I've been fitted several times, with the treadmill, and I do well with two different types of shoes. In fact, I recently changed my shoes again hoping it would help, but no luck. I'm wearing Asics Gel-Kayano's which have historically done well for me. I was in a New Balance shoe before that. I got…
  • To the shoes: I've been fitted several times and ALWAYS have good shoes. My husband is a 3-time Boston Marathoner as well as many other races and he forces me to wear good shoes. I definitely need to switch it up I guess and with the cold weather here now and lack of daylight, it's probably a good time. I've tried cycling…
  • It's a great feeling isn't it?
  • Thanks for your thoughts! I've read many of your posts here on MFP and you are truly inspiring!
  • I'm in VA! Pretty moderate temps. When I did C25K last winter, i didn't start until October and finished up in January. I think the coldest I went out in was about 20-something degrees. It was tough, didn't enjoy it. The other thing about cold temps is that for some reason, my nose runs like crazy!!
  • I've completed the app/program earlier this week. I followed it to the letter. By the time you are on week 7 or 8, though, there is no walking. Straight running. But when there were run/walk intervals, I did them.
  • Hi everyone, just getting back to this thread after being at work all day. Thank you for the great advice and encouragement. When I got home today, I decided to head right out for my own run. C25K is done, so it was first day without the app. Let me tell you; it was actually a little liberating for some reason. Not sure…
  • Thanks for the input. Not sure if it matters but my cadence has been measured at about 158 pretty consistently. I am somewhat long legged and that may be my problem with the stride.
  • I had this happen with my new Hoka Ones. The fit is fine on them. I don't know what is causing it. Definitely not a good feeling. Yours sound like they might be too tight.
  • I know this sounds crazy but when I try to slow down to a 13-14 minute mile, it feels *really* awkward to me and not natural at all. I've tried the slowing down on the last 2 weeks. For instance, I had made it through a 25 minute run with an 11:38 pace but I worked hard to slow down. I just feel so damn unnatural at that…
  • It sounds like we have the same kind of "foot." Asics is my favorite. Brooks gave me awful shin splints because they were so heavy but that was a few years ago. I normally wear an 8.5 shoe. In Asics, I do go up to a size 9. Same with any Nike shoe. The 8.5 in both shoes fits me really well for just walking around, but the…
  • My official last period was 12/30/15 (my birthday). For awhile, I continued with the discharge. Not sure when it stopped, maybe after the first year. Totally like a desert now.. :'(
  • In my case, I was much more sedentary (I think) when my kids were home. They weren't overly involved in activities, and certainly when I was in my 40s and they were high school aged, I wasn't running much. I think I was just trying to stay on top of getting dinner cooked after work and the laundry! Now that they are mostly…

  • I will agree with you that it's harder. I'm not sure that "menopause" itself made it harder, but it's most definitely harder than it was 20 years ago. But I am actually chalking that up to losing muscle mass (which is another term for "metabolism slowing down"). I am able to lose weight. It takes me longer and I get to…

  • Yes, I am facing this now. I've been doing Couch 2 5K and the dwindling daylight after work is really putting the pressure on. Also, the fruits that I tend to snack on are no longer very good (watermelon, blueberries, honeydew) and the fruits in season seem to be higher calorie (bananas, honeycrisp apples, etc).
  • OP, try to take these "groups" with a grain of salt. I am on a Facebook group for a different condition. I'm on it because it's fairly rare and I'm looking to find out what doctors specialize, but oh my goodness, the misinformation and butchered science that's being presented there is ridiculous. Also note that with…
  • I'm at the end of week 7 on C25K. I run slowly but there were days where I just ran like crap and had to repeat. I think it's week 5 that REALLY ramps up. Knowing that's just around the corner for you, I suggest you repeat the day you are failing until you get it. Or, as someone else said, move to the next day and complete…
  • I sort of have a similar issue, but the not same. I have a Garmin Forerunner. I've been doing Couch 2 5K. Now that I'm on a longer run, I start my Garmin when the run starts and stop it at the end (25 minutes now). The Garmin Connect app logs this a running activity and calculates calories. But it's also logging steps. I…
  • I think I need this. I see it online (looks like Target carries it). Is there anything added to it that makes it have calories? Just trying to find the calorie information on it.
  • A couple of things: 1. Eating out kind of creates a cycle of eating out. Most restaurants (especially the chains) make their food with a lot of sodium, fat, and richness that makes "everyday" food seem kind of boring. I was in that cycle myself and the more you do it, the harder and harder it gets to enjoy the food you…
  • I am at my lightest when I first get up. I'd be at my heaviest in the evening.
  • I didn't think you ate the loaf. Two slices of a homemade bread, especially banana bread is probably easily 400 calories. The handfuls of Skittles? Well, a couple hundred there.
  • I measure the butter than log it all.
  • Water weight. I do find it hard to think that a few handfuls of skittles and strawberry banana bread only put your 200 calories over. Still, it's not weight you gained but water.
