  • Honest logging of CICO - eventually it will change the way you understand food. It's not a race it's a lifestyle change forever
  • I wonder if the WW figures include people who start and leave in January or only people who reach their goal weight?
  • This is true but weight watchers is a multi million £ company who claim they have the answer to weight loss yet they have a failure rate of 84%. This can only mean that the tool they use is failing most of their customers. MFP must have reams of data on members successes and failures. Perhaps long term success rates should…
  • This is so true and I was thinking the same thing just this week. The beauty of MFP is that done properly with a focus on CICO and no good or bad foods it is a genuine life changing process. I've lost and maintained 60lb but my brain has changed even more than my body.

I realised that a 250 calorie deficit a day would lead to 1/2 lb per week - long term and sustainable just by logging on MFP. In the end I lost…
  • When I stared MFP I was worried about the number obsession but rather than Ignore the scales completely I weighed myself at a friend's house once every 6 to 8 weeks. It meant that even at a steady loss of 1/2 to 1 1/2 lbs a week, getting on the scales was always a positive experience.
  • Understanding the maths of weight loss: 3500 calories = 1lb of fat. Which means there is no quick fix (e.g. jumping on the scales to see how many pounds I've lost since yesterday) just genuine lifelong change. 55lb lost and maintain.
  • For me it was breaking down the maths of weight loss, the realisation that broadly speaking losing a pound of fat requires a 3500 calorie deficit. Clearly my previous attempts at dieting which included jumping on the scales to see how many pounds I'd lost in a day was just ridiculous. I had started 10,000 steps per day…
