  • I agree. It's natural for people to mistake thirst for hunger. I like these ideas to help with that... https://www.missouriwestern.edu/hr/wp-content/uploads/sites/254/2013/12/BCBS-Newsletter-September-2014.pdf
  • It's natural for many people confuse thirst with hunger. I found this mini post really helpful... https://www.missouriwestern.edu/hr/wp-content/uploads/sites/254/2013/12/BCBS-Newsletter-September-2014.pdf

  • I was trying to find an article I found about confusing hunger with thirst, and I came upon this instead. A wee bit off topic, but possibly relevant to the need for a snack... Mindful Eating https://patienteducation.osumc.edu/Documents/MindfulEating.pdf
  • Neohdiver... Your response feels really right to me. I'm hoping I get the same history that you're creating. I'm on my way, too... Haven't had a reading higher than 137 since January 4th.
  • I'm NOT surprised. It was my gynecologist who first identified that I had diabetes in the first place. Go Gynos!
  • Again, thank you for all of this discussion and information. My BG has been between 80-137 while eating low carb, so I was confused why my endo was saying I was at risk for ketoacidosis. I don't think I've even been near 250-300 maybe ever, so I appreciate your perspectives.
  • Thanks, I know this, but discussions with my endo are confusing. I'm trying to figure out the connections (or not) between ketones, ketosis, ketoacidosis, and the glucose excreted through urine from being on Invokana.
  • Thank you for all of your resources. It's my endo that has me confused; she was listening and discussing, but I was having confusion between ketones, ketosis, and ketoacidosis, esp. because I'm on Ivokana, and it purposefully excretes glucose through urine. So I am curious/confused, too, between the glucose-ketone…
  • I like to test before meals to see if I'm "truly" hungry. If my BG is high (or at least not low), I can put off a snack 'cause I know that my body doesn't "need" the extra food right now. I usually have a glass of water ... For so many of us, thirst mimics hunger... and see how I feel in 30-60 minutes (and test again if…
  • Stevia is in the Paleo column because, although the place I got my info preferred the Stevie's leaves for Paleo, I just put stevia in the spreadsheet 'cause I didn't want to drive myself too crazy over details. [I'm a newbie with type 2 diabetes who is trying to figure out what I want to discuss with my endocrinologist.]
  • Since I'm interested in sugar-free, flourless, dairy-free snacks & desserts, I also found Pumpkin Pie Pudding at http://www.muscleforlife.com/sugar-free-desserts/
  • And I'm almost sure I'm going to try bacon chocolate chip cookies http://www.livinpaleocuisine.com/blog/2014/05/08/bacon-chocolate-chip-cookies?rq=Bacon%20chocolate%20chip%20cookies . (Because of type 2 diabetes, I'm trying to stay low-carb more than paleo, but I think the lists and information from the two complement each…
  • Thanks for the simple search idea... I just searched "paleo desserts" and found something I can make without having to run to the "health food store." Flourless (& dairy-free) zucchini brownies: https://thewakingezine.wordpress.com/2012/05/29/flourless-zucchini-brownies/
  • Ok, I found the article. It was good that I went back to re-read it. http://www.paleoflip.com/protein-carb-and-fat-ratios/. It said, "It is also almost impossible to eat too much good fat. Why? Because up to 50% of calories in your diet from healthy fat is good for you, and quite frankly, it is very difficult to consume…
  • I'll look it up again where I recently read it, but I did just read somewhere that it isn't recommended to go over 50% fat in one's diet. It was a low-carb or paleo article. You don't have to comment until I find it, but I'm just mentioning it because I find it hard to get even that much fat in my daily eating. Note: I…
  • ♥ if it looks like a list, and feels like a list, then it's a list. LOL Thanks for the perspective... You're right,Terrapin. And I like your #39 humor... Good thing we can get anything from the internet :-)
  • I agree. Foods, like medicine, are chemicals that affect our physiology. It's just great that humans have the ability to both know this to make educated decisions and to ignore it to think instead of the pleasures it can bring.
  • Nothing wrong with food being pleasurable at all! I posted this under the "motivation" thread because sometimes info like this gives people the (will)power to make better decisions for themselves when they want or need to do so. Personally, I like to have these factoids to use as motivation when confronted with foods that…
  • Hmmmm, cheese doesn't occur naturally in nature; cheese is made. It can be made with only products found in nature, but they have to be combined to produce cheese.
  • I quoted ... But I just took it to mean "naturally existing before being processed." Do you have another take on it?
  • Would it be cheating if I used http://www.conversationstarters.com/generator.php , a random question generator?
  • What if I don't know what question to ask?
  • I logged in the same generic meal each day during vacation just so I wouldn't lose my consecutive days. I agree, though, that even though I let-it-all-hang-out during vacation, I couldn't wait to get back on track with MFP. I didn't get weighed on my first morning back today, and I'm not sure yet if I want to know the…

  • I figured out I was looking in the wrong place, but a drink with dinner is a definite future culprit , too. Thanks.
