I don't understand why people are so afraid to get outside and exercise in cold weather. If you're doing anything even half way strenuous (which you should be, if your goal is to exercise), you will warm up in a matter of minutes. Not to mention the plethora of cold weather workout apparel that's on the market. I've heard…

bahahaha...caught that, did you?
-
Interesting. So you only weigh once a month?
-
How do you know if you've lost from week to week, then?
-
Yep, ran on the road. There were icy patches on that particular occasion, but they quickly got covered up with the powdery stuff that was falling, and it actually started to feel like running on sand. I ran a half marathon in 30 something degree weather and freezing rain last year. Good times.

The average 12 year old boy weighs about 90 pounds, according to the CDC.

I always enjoy when an individual is accusing another individual of being judgmental. You do realize that, in doing so, you are being judgmental as well, right? In any event, how do you think the kid got to 234 pounds? The most popular ways I know of include eating too much and moving too little, but if you've got some…

So you're saying there's no correlation between the staggering rates of childhood obesity and the utter lack of physical activity amongst children nowadays? Give me a break. Furthermore, the kid is 234 pounds, which is morbidly obese, not "chubby," as you described yourself at that age. Lastly, I fail to see what memories…

I've never had problems running in snow, and don't have any special shoes for it. Although I was kicked out of a park one time while running in the snow because they were closing it down...due to the snow.

This is what comes from doing away with gym class in schools, eliminating competitive sports from children's' lives, and allowing them to spend every waking hour holed up in their rooms playing video games. When I was a kid, me, my brother, and our friends could eat whatever we wanted, even hamburgers and French fries…

I watch shows like "My 600 Pound Life" to feel better about myself.

I'm not sure that the distances you're running at this point warrant any additional fueling or concern about carbs or protein or anything in that realm. Not exactly sure how much you weigh, but you're probably only burning about 200-300 calories for a two mile run. Once you start getting into higher mileage, it may be an…

Excuse me, do you hold some sort of position of authority on MFP? My guess is no, in which case you should probably refrain from telling me what I can and can't type. Additionally, my comment on the other thread was "What does mental illness have to do with consulting a doctor about diabetes?" Not "What does mental health…
-
No worries, people will happily take time out of their busy schedules to tell you you're doing it wrong!
-
Call it professional curiosity. I've studied Psychology and worked in mental health for 14 years. Indulging your anxiety with "what ifs?" is not going to help you.

It's ok. I was really just trying to warn the OP, who seems to be pretty new at this, that she's not gonna be able to convince anyone here that her portions are accurate unless she's weighing everything. I lost weight without a food scale, too, which is actually pretty easy if you buy everything prepackaged. Probably not…
-
I did too, the first and second time. It's easy to do if everything you eat is prepackaged. This wasn't a statement regarding the utility of weighing one's food. It was a statement that reflects the attitude of the vast majority of people on this forum, which I also happen to agree with. So, yeah. Weigh, weigh, weigh!
-
Oh, I agree with you 100% and wasn't implying that this was a bad thing. I find myself not taking people seriously if they don't weight most of their food, most of the time. I've crossed over to the dark side...muah hahaha
-
Is it possible that you are also a bit hypochondriacal, thus the concern about diabetes?
-
If you're not weighing your food, no one on this site will take you seriously. Just saying.
-
What does mental illness have to do with seeing a doctor to possibly diagnose diabetes?
-
Thanks!
-
Thanks for the responses so far! My doctor was convinced I had the flu, but the test said otherwise so he diagnosed a sinus infection. And maybe the question I really should have asked is not do you log calories while sick, but do you restrict calories while sick. Very different questions!
-
Did she specify that she wanted to lose 10 pounds of fat? I must have missed that part.
-
Actually, I'm three pounds overweight, according to the BMI chart. Thanks, though.
-
Thanks for all of the helpful feedback, y'all! I never thought of subtracting the calories I would have burned by not doing anything...great suggestion. I also like the idea of coming up with some parameters for eating back calories based on the amount I burned. Thanks again!
-
Is that right? And here I thought I covered that in the second sentence of my post...
-
Wow...negativity abounds. I lost 6.5 pounds (pretty close to your goal of 10) in 2 weeks by logging everything I ate, not exceeding my 1,200 caloric goal, and exercising moderately. So, pretty much doing everything all of the MFP "experts" recommend. I had lost another 3.5 my last weigh in, bringing my total to 10 pounds…
-
I generally don't eat them all back, anyway. Which, again, isn't a big deal if you're talking about 300-400 calories, say. But when I get to the point where I'm running 5-10 miles again, we're talking about 500-1000 calories. That's a lot of calories!

Short term goal is to get back to my pre-running weight. Medium term goal is to get back to my original racing weight. Long term goal is to get to a new, lower than ever and hopefully better racing weight.
