  • plan your meals around lean proteins, fruits, veggies, healthy fats, and complex carbs...your calories will go further and you will feel more satiated. here are a couple of examples: Lunch was a turkey burger with mushrooms and blue cheese (no bun), it was about 300 calories and delicous! Dinner were lettuce wraps (ground…
  • Hello and welcome to the community part! I would love some people to share recipes with! I've been super creative in the kitchen the past couple of weeks with low carb, low calorie meals.

  • I wouldn't worry too much about your exercise calories...many of us don't add too many of those (if any) back in. BUT...if you were over on your calories for the day, doing some exercises to "earn" a few of those calories back is a good idea! I find that the site is different when I access it via the app versus the…
  • Hello! Welcome to MFP...that had to have been super scary! Feel free to friend me, I try to be supportive and motivational!
  • I'm going to have to try happy scale too! I like to weigh every day as it helps me see how certain foods or activities affect the scale. When I start avoiding the scale is when I know I'm not following my program!
  • great start! congratulations!
  • Welcome to MFP! If you are tracking your food and staying under your recommended calorie goal and utilizing your new gym membership, you will see success! I also get to work out with my husband...we enjoy different classes at the gym...they are a great way to push yourself to do different things and often for longer! I'm…
  • Welcome to MFP! Have you seen success with your first 2 weeks of tracking your food?
  • I try and eat low carb and low sugar...I find that when I do that my calories go further. I re-did my settings in MFP to show 20% of my calories from carbs instead of the preset 40%. We eat a lot of lean proteins, fruits, veggies (yes, I know there are some carbs in those...) and I have no problem staying under. My husband…
  • Would you potentially get more circulation if it went through a publisher? Is it worth trying? I have no idea if it is even a possibility but given how much people have loved your Q&A thread, I would think there's a market for it!
  • eat what you want...letting go of the thought that I HAD to eat breakfast food for breakfast was super liberating! Now, I'll have a cheese sandwich, or some chicken and an apple...whatever I feel like!

  • If it was easy, none of us would have the problem of needing to lose weight! Good luck finding your motivation!
  • Welcome to MFP! weigh and track all of your food...it's a new way of life. You will see that you can still have that pizza...maybe not as much and not as often and without a &*%load of fatty meat toppings, but you can totally fit it in to a weight loss plan. Seeing that you are of the male persuasion too, you will probably…
  • never heard of it...Your monthly guest will affect your weight loss for sure...it should come back in week 3!
  • Those are good and realistic goals! You can achieve those! My advice is to weigh and track your food...it is the most critical part of your journey to better health!
  • You could bring an array of "finger foods"...I like light salami with a little bit of cream cheese, celery and peanut butter, apples, chicken (I cook a chicken breast and bring 2-3 ounces), nuts, fruit, string cheese, hard boiled eggs...just to name a few!
  • I eat out for Mexican a lot and order a chicken taco salad, no shell. lettuce, chicken, pico de gallo...if I have the calories and/or feel the need I'll add cheese, sour cream, guac, and/or black beans. It fits well into the plan and might be a good option for your Mexican dinners out! I would try just tightening things up…
  • I agree...somedays I'm the same, and then those days that are just the opposite of feeling hungry all day. I'd add a few calories of protein...nuts, yogurt, something like that and then just call it a day.
  • I would also add the ability to realize you can have it another day. If you have had too many treats but are eyeing the cookie or triscuit...it will be there tomorrow!
  • Buy a food scale, accurately weigh and track your food...everything. When you are our age (I'm 52) every calorie counts unfortunately! Take it one step at a time...get going on good tracking and staying under your calories then look at adding in fitness. Welcome to MFP!

  • Welcome to MFP.... Your quote above has me scratching my head...huh?
  • couch to 5 k is a great program to help get started running! Welcome to MFP, good luck on your journey!
  • There are some great posts on plateaus...Hopefully someone more savvy than I will post the links! When I feel stuck I go super clean...lean proteins, veggies, lots of water and perfect logging. For me that is cutting out fruit and dairy. Those last few pounds are the most challenging to get off though...good luck and…
  • That's tough! Can you start the conversation with that disclaimer "I don't want to be an a*hole" then tell him what you need. That you would love to eat out with him but need it to be places where you can make healthy choices. I would think that whatever you are cooking at home is going to taste better to him than what he…
  • I weigh almost every day too...but log only once a week. I think weighing every day helps me see foods that cause me to retain water (and not show good results on the scale). So now...I won't weight after a beef eating day, for some reason beef makes me retain water for a day or two. You should take some measurements too…
  • Nice work...especially the maintaining. I've heard that's the hardest part...never quite have gotten there to find out!
  • I started to reply and tell you that you are overthinking it. Ultimately total calories consumed over time is what matters. But then I read your whole post and some of the replies and my head started to spin a bit. :D More power to you all with the crazy work schedules! My hat is off to you!
  • Hi new guy! Where is Pikesville? Welcome to MFP!

  • Welcome back!
  • Me too! 52 and down 4 since the 1st...I'm a slow loser, could stand to lose 50 but more likely 20 will be the goal (that would be my lowest adult weight). barbeedwards...I love your goal! I want to take hubby to climb killamanjaro for his 65th birthday in 4 years...that's the big goal.
