  • 52...and I agree, we have different challenges and insights. I have also tried to keep my friends on MFP in the same general age range! Feel free to add me.
  • Welcome to MFP!
  • Congratulations on your success! You look great! I agree with you, changing things up even if you are not changing total calories seems to help shake things up. Maybe it just makes me more conscientious or something subliminal but I find that when I take a total break from something (like sugar or bread), everything falls…
  • I had one, it didn't really motivate me. I had a 10,000 step goal. If I was within a few hundred, I would work hard to make it happen. If I was too far off I just blew it off. My husband though loves his! If it is something that will motivate or inspire you, go for it!
  • That is a great start! Looking forward to celebrating 20 with you!
  • Welcome to MFP, you will find a lot of support (and critics) here to help you on your journey. Make sure you are weighing and measuring your food and honestly tracking everything you eat. You will see in your food diary where you can make swaps to hit your goals. You can totally do this, I think your goal might be too…
  • Yes, you could improve your diet greatly by just adding a banana and a handful of nuts (weighed and measured), or whatever those things are that you enjoy. You could easily get up to your recommended calorie minimum in a way that is healthy and will ensure that you are getting all of the nutrients you need to sustain your…
  • Welcome to MFP! Tracking your food and working on keeping your calories at a deficit will help you acheive your goal. That's a big goal, are you starting with smaller more achievable steps? Getting under 300 will be a nice one to achieve and celebrate! Looking forward to following your journey! I'm back at MFP after a…
  • I'm trying to minimize processed food, added sugars and just clean it up a bit. We went a bit crazy over the holidays with lots of baked goods and rich food. I feel sluggish at the gym and know that cleaning up the diet will help. My focus is on eating at least 6 servings of fruits and veggies per day, lean proteins,…
  • Starting over here too! Ready to stop eating everything in sight and start making good choices! After I get past the sugar withdrawl sluggishness, I will be ready to go!
  • It obviously is a thoroughly designed program that has seen a lot of successes. I've done it a few times over the years and it seems a little complicated getting started but like anything you quickly get in the groove. MFP is a cheap (free) alternative, if you can make it work here you will save yourself a lot of money. I…
  • The app is different on the PC vs. Smart phones etc... On my PC, I just go up to the blue bar and click where it says "food" and then I can search from there. Maybe when you are searching it is only searching foods you have previously entered? I know there is an option within search to use the entire database. Welcome…
  • I think NY is a great time to reset...as are most Mondays and the first of any month! BUT....for 2017 my goals are: 1. Get back on MFP and track all food (I've been MIA for 4 months) 2. get back into the gym at least 4 workouts per week 3. Be diligent about the job search and find a new job!
  • I'm not sure what the minimum for weight loss is for men...that could be the number but it depends on your height, weight, age, activity level and how much realistically you want to lose each week. You can plug in your stats on MFP and it gives you a target
  • What if you took your day of food, and log it so you see if you are getting enough calories and nutrients? Weigh and measure at least once for logging to see if you are close. Then you would know if you needed to add in more chicken, veggies or fruit. It does no harm to eat the same thing repeatedly as long as you are…
  • I'm 52 and always happy to have more friends in my age group! I'm sending you a request!
  • I love chicken, celery, diced apple and light mayo...it's a go to lunch for me!
  • nice job! You look awesome! Enjoy your bikini! I also got a tummy tuck after I lost 50 or so lbs...best money I ever spent and wish I had done it 10 years earlier! BUT...it is a hard recovery and painful surgery!
  • Can you make meal planning something you all do together? Take one of your favorite family meals and google some lighter recipes...there are tons of places to find lighter, healthier versions of those old family favorites. Plan an activity on the weekend that everyone likes OR...rotate who plans and the others have to go…
  • nice work! Congrats on your success!
  • Isn't funny how unsupportive people can be? Stay strong...it isn't worth it. There will always be pizza and donuts when you feel like you want to work it in to your eating plan for the day!
  • Congratulations! Nice work!
  • Good for you! You can totally do this, I read a quote on the boards today that I love... "you can't outrun bad eating habits". clearly you are living proof of that! :)
  • lovely at every weight...Congratulations!
  • We have been into stuffed peppers lately. I do a lasagna stuffed pepper (ricotta on the bottom, chunky tomato sauce on top and then mozzarella...cover with marinara and bake). yummy! I've also done a meatloaf type stuffed pepper, and a Mexican stuffed pepper...it's been a thing, easy to make low cal and with lots of…
  • Welcome to mfp! restricting yourself that much might be a difficult thing to maintain but maybe a good thing to try to do! Log your food, use a food scale and eat at a calorie deficit for weight loss. If you are really eating mainly the above, the food will go a long way!
  • Be careful with your injury and know that losing pounds is 90% about what you eat. Exercise is a bonus and good for you for so many things, but they best way to get the scale to move the direction you eat is to eat at a calorie deficit. Weigh and measure your portions and be honest about your food tracking! Cardio might be…

  • going to the gym together is such a great thing to do! my friends are often envious that my husband will go to pilates with me, walks, or hikes anytime. A healthy way to have together time! Nice job!

  • I'm sure the app is overestimating how many calories you burn, it seems to do that with most excercises. I think if you feel hungry still after eating 1500 calories at the end of the day, eat something healthy like an apple...you would definitely be able to afford a few extra calories for something like that. If an apple…

  • swimming is a great calorie burn and easy on your joints. I would think eating at a deficit and swimming to burn more calories would be a great combination for weight loss.
