  • Focus on something you can do. Doesn't matter how small. Set a goal you know you can accomplish and go from there. There's no timer on getting healthy- so take your time . Hugs to you
  • Writing it all down IS a behavior change. That's AWESOME that you are doing this!!! I've had moments of sadness/depression on my journey too- I think everyone does. Focus on what you're doing RIGHT! A great start is seeing what you're eating. Be kind to yourself. Try to be your own friend. Keep logging, and maybe set a…
  • Yeah. I love oatmeal; daily breakfast; but dr oz was recently shown to be a total snake oil salesman, peddling products without proven effectiveness
  • Thank you to those of you who tried to provide helpful answers. Not sure why others still seem to think I'm focused on the scale. I don't care about the damn scale- I just gain so much water weight 5+ pounds i just feel crappy.
  • it's not about my being uncomfortable with the number on the scale, it's about being uncomfortable in my pants because the bloat is so uncomfortable. Please only respond if you can help me with my question, not with comments about other things you think i should focus on, or are misunderstanding about my focus. So - not…
  • I use 1 teaspoon olive oil with 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar salt pepper and lemon juice
  • I'm like this too. Eating raw carrots solo makes me more hungry. Combine with hummus though and I'm good to go
  • The source is Fox News. Need I say more?
  • i love wine - bourbon the most though. i only have alcohol on fridays or saturdays though, and never more than 2 glasses- screws up my sleep cylce and i always feel off the next day.
  • this is pretty much what I do too. My issue isn't pasta, but desserts, so I cut out all sweets for over a month, and I'm now able to give myself a reasonable portion and feel good about it, instead of craving more. I only had 18 pounds to lose, but I've lost 9 since I started in January. My husband used to do all the…
  • Yes - this works for me too. I am a recovering sugar addict. I could eat a whole pie in one sitting, or 12 jumbo cupcakes... and want another piece of candy an hour later. really. I first moved to eating lots of fruit, and no more processed sugars; that was great, but I still had a great appetite for sugar. Now, I focus on…
  • yes this. it may take longer to lose the weight you want but you will lose it 'for real' and it won't come back if you continue to eat with cals in mind.
  • agreed. weird post. definitely seems like a sell of some sort - which BTW OP, is not allowed on the boards. If we're all really wrong, and you're just kind of an unusual communicator, i would suggest focusing on ways to address your sleeping problems. i have never woken up in the middle of the night to eat. If you wake up…
  • Most folks here will recommend you est back approx half of exercise cals, as MFP overestimates them.
  • My recommended cals are 1200 and each week I'm about 100-500 short. I don't have issues with hunger. I eat foods that are filling and make sure I get enough fat and protein.
  • I can gain over 5 pounds during TOM, or if I've eaten salty foods. Keep your eyes on your overall trend and awesome weight loss and you'll notice the numbers start moving down again the near future.
  • just wanted to add that there are some legitimate purposes to 'detoxes'. I have severe allergies - many of them foods - and because they present differently than most food allergies, they hadn't been discovered by allergy testing. I was extremely sick even though I was eating 'healthfully' about 15 years ago now. I asked a…
  • modifying previous answers - i think that is true if you are trying to get really skinny, but less true if your 'last 10' doesn't get you to a super skinny place. When i was in my 20s, I modeled, and my low weight was about 112. Now that I'm many years older and not exactly a model (!) my goal weight is 130. Could I get to…
  • i'm on team food scale too - at least for a few weeks. You might be surprised to see how different your calories are than what you think - by trying it out for a few weeks, you'll be able to see how good your 'eye' is, and whether you're really eating what you think you are. What is more striking in what you wrote IMHO, is…
  • A few thoughts for you that might help: Are you sure you're hungry? And not thirsty? Or not having a craving? (Which can be changed over time by eating better)? Or not having an emotion? I used to feel like you do, but figured out that much of the time, one of the above was the case- not real hunger. Also, I figured food so…
  • Not sure what you mean by fluctuation on the scale? I dropped 8 pounds during the month of January, and I haven't lost any weight at all in the last 3 weeks. I've gained and lost the same 1/2 pound, which I understand is weight fluctuation.
  • It can take me 1-2 weeks to return to pre TOM weight. Frustrating but true. I do weigh daily, but I only log about once a week.
  • Forgot to add measurements: currently, 36-27-38.5. I believe I started at 37.5-30-40.5
  • I have a small frame, I'm 5'6' and at 148' my starting weight, I was a size 6 or 8. I now weigh 139 and I'm a size 4 or 6. Hope that helps!
  • Same for me. My goal is between 122-130 depending on how I look when I get there. Think it will be more about muscle vs fat composition
  • Also, got it on the performance goals, but right now I'm not really focused on that- I'd like to lose another 5 pounds, so I'm about 5 pounds away from goal, before I switch to focusing more on strength, etc. plus, since I battle fatigue, it's hard for me to exercise consistently. I can work out daily for several weeks,…
  • I'm surprised to see I at a protein def. because protein + fat seems to help me feel sated- so I always conscious of trying to have both at each meal except breakfast- I jus try to get out the door on time with breakfast:)
  • Ok- just looked at my numbers again- see the protein deficit now. Thank you! It's very surprising to me because I'm definitely an omnivore and feel like I eat a lot of meat! Next question- if all that is required for weight loss a cal deficit, than why does the composition if those calories matter?
  • Hi lifting- thanks for all your thoughts- I'm eating the protein that MFP has set for me. Are you saying this is too low? I never said I needed to cut anything out- I'm not about that, because it wouldn't be sustainable. It seems when I look at my weekly numbers though, it's my fat that is a little high, not that my…
  • This! No shame- wel all have our own battles, but it sounds like this might really help you.
