And boring dumb planks won’t do twiddly.

Slap a plate on your back too.

Last meet: 430 lbs squat, 320 lbs bench, 545 lbs deadlift at 201 lbs, second Place Masters finish.

Hollow rocks are the only “planks “ worth doing if planking is something you are intent on doing. Otherwise, planking is dumb. Go Tabata on them.

Your timeline (ie fast) to lose weight is not necessarily your body's timeline. You can lose weight fast, but it doesn't mean you've achieved a new level of homeostasis. Crash weight loss usually results in short-term results, but long term failure.

Become bad at lying to people. Great way to dig yourself deeper in any hole.

Mostly for strength, but that's only a chimera. You can cut and maintain strength. Volume suffers a little, but strength does not.

Thank you!

Cruel, cruel world.

Exclusive gym it is then.
-
Not even in a naked gym? Lol

Which is why scope of exercise is then needed, because all that cardio burns leans mass and the stimulus fails. What does the typical MFPer do at this juncture when all that cardio fails to get the last 10-20 pounds off? They strength train (usually with free weights) where the stimulus can be increased workout to workout,…

I’m glad you’re a former smoker. That’ll kill you. However I’d argue that to a well adapted individual, all those walks to the store may start out as exercise but after awhile it becomes covered under NEAT. Adaptation has been made like in the case of the OP farmer at the start of this thread — which is still while the OP…

Here’s the thing, why would someone even want to track folding laundry, horse riding, or bailing hay? If a person zeroed out their BMR and TDEE at the start of the day and added their activity precisely to that day’s calorie burn, they would have an accurate number of calories to eat for their needs each day. But we know…
-
Of course still friendly, I’m just trying to untangle your thoughts on the matter and I can’t do that without blunt questions. So, if we’re trying “ to up our calorie burn” then 30 minutes on a treadmill versus walking to the store is a significant difference in scope. Now if 30minutes on the treadmill is done 3x a week…

Nonsensical? In what way?

I used to bail and stack hay and that wasn’t the case with the other farm hands I toiled with under the Wisconsin sun. Bailing hay is seasonal, and exercise can be performed yearly. While percentage of body fat does not necessarily have any bearing how strong one is, it certainly has a bearing on just how fit one is.
-
How is that weird?
-
Not entirely arbitrary. I’ll argue that exercise is done within a program to elicit an adaptation, no matter how naive that program might be. For example, consider the posts on MFP asking about ones routine. “Hey what do you think of my awesome abs and left forearm routine?” Activity done without some type of oversight…

If doing the daily things in life that was either physical or that looked liked exercise, we would have a lot less fat people in the world. But that’s not the case.
-
I have a friend, who is a farmer and a powerlifter. Tell me, should he rely on his farming to prepare for meet day? I mean, heck, if farming is exercise, why even strength train?
-
Yep. Thus not exercise. Still not exercise and a category error to think it is no matter how similar the movements.
-
I used to skate and weight train, mostly for the beach muscles. I never considered skateboarding exercise. Still won’t, but you should account for the activity as part of your TDEE
-
Butt building you mean
-
Yep. It’s NEAT but not exercise.

Need motivation? How about not dieing from excess weight or loss of function due to a lack of exercise? How about a better quality of life? Or do you have an aversion to feeling, moving better and possibly living a better, longer quality of life?
