  • Hi. 1200 kcal seems low to me. For comparison I am 5'5 and 152 pounds and eating 1500kcal a day for weight loss. I also have a fitbit and it seems to overestimate the calories burned so I definitely wouldn't eat all the calories it recommends. But still 1200 kcal is low and you have quite a bit to lose. Do you think you…
  • Thank you! I read the conversation. I found out that what Americans call lemonade is what we call citron pressé.
  • Then what is lemonade in the US? I work at a restaurant with lots of tourists (in Switzerland) and always give American tourists Sprite when they ask for lemonade. No one complained yet...
  • Ah now I get it! I thought you were making fun of foreign language entries. As a foreign language user (Switzerland) I was getting ready for battle ;). Never used the barcode scanner. Do I need the app on the phone for that?
  • hum? rouleau de printemps aux légumes? I don't get it?
  • You don't need to exercise to create a deficit and lose weight. You lose weight by eating less than you burn. I weigh around 160 pounds and I am steadily losing weight by counting calories (1500 kcal a day) and walking. Exercise is good for health but not absolutely necessary to lose weight. No need to try and change your…

  • Hi. I bought pants that were too small and I couldn't button them. After losing 3 pounds I am able to button them (but they are still too tight and don't fit very well). Still there IS a difference  ... even with a small loss. I know from previous experience that at around 10 pounds people start to notice my weight…
  • If you are content with your physical appearance what drives to try and lose weight? (Genuine question, not trying to be snarky)
  • It would work but it would also take a long time. If I did that now I would have a 250 cal deficit and lose 1/2 pound a week (I am 40 pounds away from my goal weight). And when I got 20 pounds from the goal weight I would have a 109 cal deficit which means it would take me one month to lose a pound. The last few pounds…
  • Well this 3500 number has been kind of floating around for a while but it is just an estimation. It does refer to adipose tissue, which is constituted mainly of fat (9 cal per gram - 4086 calories per pound). What I meant was... it requires approximately a 0 calorie deficit to lose 1 pound of water  and for 1 pound…
  • Well sugar is a type of carbohydrate! The calorie allowance is split into carbs - protein - fat
  • 1g of carbs or 1g of protein = 4 calories 1g of fat = 9 calories So 158g of carbs = 632 calories 42 g of fat = 378 calories 63 g of protein = 252 calories Total: 1262 - which is your calorie goal (2 calories are a rounding error)
  • They are grams of carbs / fat / protein. But beware this is not the total weight of a food. For example 100g of the greek yogurt I am eating right now has 8g of protein, 13g of carbs and no fat. So (8+3)*4= 84 calories
  • With people saying you are wrong, I just did the math again: 21 days x 1200 calories eaten per day = 25 200 calories eaten total pounds lost: 6.8 lbs assuming it was only fat (doubtful) and that 1 pound of fat equals 3 500 calories 23 800 deficit Total calories burned: 49 000 per day: 2333 calories, which yes, is your…
  • Just a word of caution. When I hear you say you don't want tofu/beans or meat substitutes I get a bit worried about you getting proper nutrition. I don't say this to discourage you, but just so you do some research and make sure you eat all the nutrients you need.
  • Hi! Great job on losing 25 kg!! From your pictures, I think there is a bit of loose skin and a bit of fat. The skin will almost certainly "recover" since you are young and there is no way you will have a lot of fat on your belly area when you get to your goal of 57 kg. We are the basically the same weight and height (and…
  • Hi! People are so judgemental without even trying the food! I haven't tried this rice but have tried shirataki noodles which aren't as good as "real" noodles but make for a very filling low calorie dinner when I have few calories left. I usually use them in stir fries with shrimp/chicken and veggies or curries.
  • I think your question is very relevant! I am technically not overweight (BMI-wise), though I am borderline and am trying to lose weight. However, I dress in a very simple manner (jeans and sneakers) which does not fit with the way most girls dress here. So appearance might be a factor. I certainly won't try to talk to…
  • That is disappointing. Even though I wasn't friends with this girl we had lunch together a few times, and talked beyond "school work". However we had to work together for a project, so 1. She either pretended to get along with me to make working on the project easier 2. She doesn't want to be "seen" with me while she is…
  • I don't know what triggers a mass shooter situation. I live in Switzerland where there haven't been any on campus shootings that I am aware of and I certainly don't feel the need to shoot someone or retaliate in any way. And I don't think that people in Switzerland feel more accepted than in the US. The US has much more…
  • You absolutely got that right, I was looking for similar experiences and hopefully some encouragement/advice. Anyway kind posts like yours (and the others that shared) absolutely make up for the less supportive ones. And I am the kind of person who would join a book club... maybe I should
  • Since I am a girl they should have no problem saying hi back right? :) I do find that guys are a lot more friendly and easy to talk to (at least as a first contact). As an example, this morning, a guy from this same class caught up to me and we chatted on the way to class (10 min walk). I had only talked to him once prior…
  • You could have led with that when first answering this post!
  • Wow you have a knack for the inappropriate. Your first comment actually made me laugh but likening my situation to that of a mass shooter, that's pushing it too far.
  • So the question is, did this ever happen to you? And why do you think this happens?
  • Wow your rest HR is so low :). The step count seems to be accurate for now but I have noticed I earn calories while lying in bed (I guess it's the BMR).
  • Thank you for your answer. I think that the Fitbit may be overestimating calorie burns because of the HR. I guess time will tell :) I can always deactivate it.
  • I have an unrelated question: if I put my Fitbit charge in my pocket (because I don't want to show in my arm) will it accurately count my steps?
  • Great job! And in such a short time too! I wouldn't have thought in was possible (apart from people on the big loser). So congratulations again!
  • I have a very similar goal (148--> 125) and I am trying to lose 1 pound a week . I have been at this for 3 weeks (a short time, I know...), and so far so good. I have tried before and never stuck to it. My "rules" are: - Don't try to lose too quickly or you'll run out of steam. I found out that trying to lose 2lbs a week…
