  • @cboes83 Well then, by all means, good luck with your Plexus and lining your friend's pockets! I'm sure she'll be *very happy* with your choice, despite the overwhelming science that invalidates any of Plexus' claims. Also, please list the doctors that say that taking it while pregnant is safe, and I'll make sure to never…
  • "Everything in moderation" is my mantra. I made a blueberry pie last night, and will have a slice today. Bacon? I have it every day. No food is totally off-limits
  • Another budding Garmin fan here. I've used Fitbits the last year and a half, but needed to replace them both. I bought a Vivoactive HR last week and am really enjoying the level of information and customization available. Three big benefits over the Fitbit Surge: 1. Waterproof 2. Battery Life 3. Band is replaceable!
  • It's a great program! I was able to do 1.5 miles on my own, so I started with Week 5, but it's fantastic for conditioning your body to handle the repetitive forces/stresses of sustained running. Something that helped motivate me: signing up for my first 5k. It gave me a solid goal to aim for, and kept me pushing myself…
  • When I first started MFP, I was 287 pounds, and to lose 1.5/week it had me eating 2800 cal/day. I'm now at 199 pounds and to keep losing 1.5/week, I'm down to 1770 cal/day. You'll get there, but you need patience. Hang in there, and know that everybody on here has had tough times losing weight, too :)
  • So, you fell for her schpeal, huh? No possible way diet and exercise could have any effect on these miraculous results? Losing weight can help with insulin and joint pain, and the complexities of the developing brain can mitigate some ADHD symptoms. I also give serious doubt as to the competence of a doctor that recommends…
  • Keep watching your food intake and exercising, and send me the money you're spending on those pills. I can guarantee you'll still lose weight.
  • I had it happen after my first 5k. I had a gulp of Gatorade/water mix half-way, then sprinted the last 100 yards. Didn't end up puking, but felt a lot better after burping up the air I swallowed with the Gatorade/water mix.
  • The wife likes her true-crime shows (First 48, etc), and Dr. Drew/Nancy Grace (who I personally can't stand). The shows we watch together are numerous, however: Doctor Who, Alone, Naked & Afraid, Bates Motel, Preacher. She wasn't really a Who fan until Peter Capaldi started, but I've been a Whovian since I was a kid
  • Like I said, I think a lot of it was because the breakup of my parent's marriage was incredibly difficult for us (I was 11, my sister was 9). Over time, I've become a lot closer to my dad, and my sister has become close to my mom. But, my dad still, to this day, feels guilty about the breakup. Now for college, my dad, mom,…
  • @RunRachelleRun I try to not bug her about it too much, because she can be overwhelmed easily if I start ticking off the stuff I'd like her to help with when I'm gone. I'll maybe ask her to get pet food or something, but most of the time I have to do it myself. She's being treated for depression, and I've asked her to…
  • It's kind of weird. I think it has 2 root causes: first, he left my mom when we were kids, so this equal/equal is likely a way to still make up for something that happened over 30 years ago. Secondly, he and I have talked about my diagnosis of OCD, and I can see his equal/equal philosophy being directly related to it. I'm…
  • My dad instilled in me and my sister the "equal/equal" mantra. For example, when I last drove down to his place in Kentucky, my truck's alternator died. He paid for a new one, 3 drive belts, and installation at his friend's garage. That day, he sent my sister a check for the same amount. **vent** My philosophy for my…
  • We have no kids, but lots of pets. My wife will come up with a couple names and we'll discuss them, then choose. My problem is that as a teacher, some of the names she comes up with remind me of students I've had that I'd rather like to forget. However, a lot of the names she's suggested have been great: Audrey, Tucker,…
  • Brooks have been recommended to me for years, so I finally got a pair in April. I picked up their GTS 15's, and they are amazing! My feel don't feel like I've run in them at all, and they're very well-ventilated, too.
  • HOLY SMOKES!!! What a transformation :)
  • On very hot days, I'll do my run in the evening, or even at night. I wear a reflective vest so I am more visible, and it's worked out pretty well for me. The only problems are oncoming car headlights making it tough to see where the uneven pavement is.
  • I've learned that working on goals gradually and NOT trying to accomplish that goal the first time you try works miracles. 3 months ago I had no idea that I could run 3 miles in one session, but conditioning can put many goals within reach :)
  • I'm the only one that does the dishes, and it's based on something I regret from decades ago: I was washing the dishes, and I STUPIDLY SAID to my wife "ya know, I don't really mind doing dishes". To which she replied "Good; then you can always do them". I've thought about putting in a dishwasher, but our kitchen is tiny…
  • Some days I have to make time for it, by either purposefully going out for a walk or by getting on the treadmill if the weather is bad. I roughly estimate that 1000 steps takes me 10 minutes, so during the day I look at my step count and figure out how long I have to walk in the evening to hit 10k.
  • What douches. Probably had compensation issues and needed to vent their feelings of inadequacy...
  • I set up a reminder email to be sent if I don't log in by 10 pm, but fortunately it's never been triggered. Logging just becomes a habit :)
  • I started out C25K on my treadmill in March, but realized that I was getting increasingly bored and irritated on it. However, I was nervous about running outside; people could *see me* as I ran like a newbie, possibly trip over myself, etc. I braved the outside world, and haven't used the treadmill in a couple months. You…
  • Well, my wife once accused me in a fight that the only reason I'm trying to lose weight is so I can weigh less than her. That one caught me off-guard. She'll also say "now that you're 'Mr. Fitness'..."
  • How does it help you conceive? Adding alcohol to any drink can help you conceive, too...
  • Depends on your level of conditioning. It's a great way to get your heart rate up, but if you're not used to it then you may be sore the day after. Why not start by doing 25 3x/week for 1 week, then 50 3x/week for the second week, 75 3x/week on the third week, and 100 3x/week on the fourth week? You will feel yourself…
  • Wow... as a guy I'm speechless! Yes, you did dodge a bullet, but STILL! What a callous *kitten*!
  • Not necessarily. I asked my dr about it since I mostly drink Diet Coke when I eat out, and his response was as long as I was eating something when I drank it, then it shouldn't be a problem. The issue was if it's consumed on an empty stomach, the "sweet" response your body has (ie producing insulin) will lower your blood…
  • Evening run and a bug flies into my mouth... and it's so deep I can't cough it out!
