  • 46 here, too. My most difficult day in my 40's was *turning* 40. That whole day I was thinking, "Jesus, I'm 40 now!". The next day, no problems. Enjoy every day, and don't waste it worrying about things you can't change. We all get older. The point is to make each day better than yesterday, and the 40's is a wonderful time…
  • Absolutely nothing health-wise. Just keep accurately logging and you'll lose the weight.
  • It's tough for me to NOT be efficient, so now I for myself to make multiple trips up and down the stairs to get my steps in, etc
  • "A fool and his money are soon parted"...
  • Onboard the International Space Station. I've taught my students about manned space programs for years, and started an application to be an astronaut earlier this year, but didn't submit it b/c I'd have to leave my job. Buuut, if it's tomorrow, I'd go in a heartbeat. What's at the top of your bucket list, and why?
  • I've had many students over the years call me "Peter Griffin", and I found it extremely disrespectful, until I got to the point where I just accepted that I was a fatty and would always be compared to him. My wife had also used some choice words in arguments that weren't exactly flattering. I had gained almost 100 pounds…
  • I work about 60 hours/week teaching, and commute about 1.5 hours/day, so that leaves little time for exercising, unless I make time for it! My breakfasts are always the same thing (~300 calories), and my lunches (which I make on Sunday and freeze; same meal every day) are ~700-800 calories. Then for dinner it's whatever my…
  • Hi Chau! I would definitely recommend *against* a "juice fast". While you might initially lose some weight, you'll likely gain it right back when you start eating normally again. What has worked for me (and I'm down 84 pounds) has been logging practically everything that gets past my lips, eating at a deficit, and…

  • I go to my local savers.com every few months and spend maybe $50 on 4 or so new dress slacks, a couple dress shirts, a pair of jeans, and perhaps a tie or two. It's soooo convenient, and I've bought expensive name-brand clothes for pennies on the dollar. While I view it as a pain to select and try on clothes, I'm so happy…

  • It all depends what you put into it. I drink a large hot straight black coffee every day, and have lost 86 pounds. Years ago I did quit coffee for a while, but was much happier with it back in my life :)
  • I have a pb&j sandwich for lunch M-F with no guilt whatsoever, and have been doing this for almost 2 years. Recently I've started having a little peanut butter at night to reach my intake goal, too. Peanut butter powder is awesome, also. My guilty pleasure is sprinkling maybe 1 tbsp into some marshmallow fluff and eating…
  • My general practitioner first went over what a "sensible daily calorie allotment" was with me about 5 years ago, and it wasn't anything special: 1800-2000 calories, and what portions should be fats, proteins, and carbs. It's really disturbing that your doc would put you on this extremely difficult diet. However, it looks…
  • This post is fantastic! You are such an inspiration to so many :)
  • When logging a meal you can't find in the database, you mentally "dissect" the different parts of the meal to more accurately log it... "there were 2 slices of tomato.... and about half a cucumber... 3 olives... 4 Craisins..."
  • Another Garmin Vivoactive HR owner here. Great watch. It's also waterproof, which so far no Fitbit is. I did a TON of research for what I was going to replace my Charge HR with, and what I realized is that the Blaze is just a fancier Charge HR.
  • I graduated up to a Garmin Vivoactive HR 3 weeks ago. *GREAT* watch for running. It has some quirks, but gives you TONS of biometric data every day. $250 on Amazon.
  • In all seriousness, I think you might have to check out the personals section of Craigslist to find out where some of them are.
  • I'd you're just getting started, I'd also recommend a Fitbit. Then, you can progress to more comprehensive trackers when your fitness goals change. I started with a Charge, upgraded to a Charge HR, and recently picked up a Garmin Vivoactive HR. Each one has more features than the last. Good luck!!
  • I would love to get a tear-drop or pop-up, but my wife's attitude is "where are we going to put it 10 months of the year???". She prefers tent camping, but I'd love to get something fun and small... :sigh: someday...
  • Former Fitbit user. Miss the community aspect since all my fitness friends seemed to have a Fitbit. Redbeard333 is my username!
  • More like a "braat.... braat.... braat...." On my treadmill in the basement, not a big problem. Out in the real world? Gotta check my surroundings first!
  • Definitely C25k here. Don't push yourself, listen to your body, and take your rest days between running sessions! ! You can do it
  • I sometimes fart when I run...
  • Aaaaannnnddd what's going to happen when you start eating normally again after losing water weight?? Do yourself a huuuuge favor and stop "cleansing". I'll take that back. The only thing you're "cleansing" is your wallet. Eat at a caloric deficit (not easy but nearly 100% effective!) and you'll lose the weight.
  • I love watching people on Facebook dive head-first into these MLM schemes, and then about 3 months later they've fallen off the wagon. Or how can someone 2 months into the "biz" become so good at their "business" that they can now "train" their friends? So far the count is 1 for Plexus, 1 for Shakeology, and 1 for It…
