What nobody tells you about losing weight

That sometimes you have to admit defeat...some clothes will never suit me regardless of my weight
That someone telling you they want to lose weight after seeing your success can leave you an emotional wreck (in a good way)
That people will comment on weight loss, but rarely on weight gain.
Pisses me off when people hear "no thank you i don't want it" And keep pushing. Like im not depriving myself i seriously DONT WANT the cake i eat plenty of crap i just eat the crap i actually want...People always act like i have an eating disorder or something because i dont want to eat all their crappy food when they know im losing weight? like how do they think weight loss works..?
You know what, weirdly I use to just eat the cake to shut people up. Even if i didn't really like the cake!! I don't anymore, I just plain refuse despite the "But I bought it especially" or the "It's only a small piece" and I just deal with the disapproving looks and the mutterings. If I want a piece of cake I'll damn well have a piece of cake, but I won't eat the cake because THEY want me to have the cake. It might only be 200cals, but 200 a day is 1400 a week and if I keep having "just the one piece" I'll have over eaten by a whole day's calorie intake in just one week.
I have to say I'm so lucky I haven't experienced it this time. it was so frustrating I now say oh I'd love to but I have so many food allergies I'd be paying for it for days. it's not a complete lie as I have figured out I get severe stomach aches when I eat wheat. it has worked like a charm.
I agree. I didn't know that was one of the culprits making me feel generally sick for years. when I did an Elimination Diet and realized how many food sensitivities i had then I went back and would eat wheat every now and then. I ended up getting terrible pain for 5 days having to miss work not being able to walk upright. That happened 4 times with any gluten. Now I know for sure which foods I have to stay away from. I no longer have to take allergy medication or antacids.. I also do not suffer during any allergy season. No pain & swelling.
When people tell me that just one little piece won't hurt, i explain to them the terrible ordeal that I go through for 5 days and they tell me, wow sorry.11 -
That seeing an old picture pop up can be kind of mortifying, like I've worked this hard, I don't want to relive that again! But it is nice to be able to see the progress..18

That as your diet changes, so do your tastes. I can't drink soda anymore, its too sweet. I also can't choke down pop-tarts or eat meat without going "WTF?" with my tastebuds.
I can feel the lack of nutrition in overcooked foods at restaurants. Like, I eat primarily vegetables and they always over-cook them. My body is like "wait, why *doesn't* this taste better?"
Ok so those are both basically the same thing.12 -
That youd be willing to instantly do things you used to put off. Like walk further, Or scrub something clean. Free calorie burn! woo.16

The good: Having people tell me I was their inspiration/healthy role model. Being less hungry. Feeling like I accomplished something really amazing and hard.
The bad: People at work judging me as less competent/unable to do heavy lifting. 80 pounds lighter and suddenly I can't do "man's work" and was told I should work in an office (I was just as strong).5 -
Putting on a pair of what were "Comfortable" flats for Christmas shopping. Didn't realize you could lose weight like that in your feet! By the end of shopping I could no longer walk as my once comfortable shoes now gave me blisters, ouchie!
Your mouth shape will change also- for any denture wear-ers!8 -

focus on tje positives.
get 8 hours sleep a night.
look at overall trends rather than minor fluctuations.
make mini goals...not all loss related..example will walk 3 times a week for 15 minutes each or whatever yours will be.
a tracker helped me. I started at 3000 steps a day and now most days are over 10000 to 13000
find something active you enjoy doing.17 -

I admit it.... sometimes I purposely "forget" to put my outgoing mail in the OUT box at work until after the mailman comes. Then I volunteer to walk all of the office mail over to the Post Office. It is probably only 1/8th of a mile, but if I take the stairs and walk the 1/8th mile both ways, it is a good 5 minute huffin-and-puffin walk. Score!26 -

- When some of the friends and family you thought would be happy for you will instead mock your commitment or make jokes because you prove it CAN be done and they refuse to strive for it.17 -

So true. This isn't a daily issue for me 'cause I dropped the weight after moving overseas and don't actually get to see anybody that knew me at my higher weight. But last week FaceTiming with some relatives my uncle's greeting was: "Hey! So, you still skinny?" That may sound harmless but he is a really toxic individual who is very self-conscious about being overweight. I think he would have loved it if I had said: "Well...I actually gained it back" because it would validate his belief that it's impossible to lose weight and keep it off. I just replied: "Yep! Still skinny!" and let it go. Meh. Good thing I don't have to deal with him on a daily basis.
On a more positive note, no one told me I would become such an active person. I did an hour's worth of strenght training today and then pestered my husband to go on a walk with me. We wound up doing over 7k just because the evening was so lovely. 10,000 steps used to be all my exercise for the day, now it's a nice bonus.24 -
How little effort it takes to undo it all. I've worked for a couple months to get 5 pounds off and I gained it back with only 2 weeks of eating holiday food. boo.20

Libdo through the roof lol15

that i would get so narcissistic constantly eyeballing my reflection in any surface just trying to get a sense of what i think of my shape at a given moment.16

I like doing the laundry and will go down to the laundry room repeatedly to check the timer on the machine...
(psst: I could set the timer on my phone... but where's the fun in going up and down 3 flights of stairs otherwise...)14 -
That you don't mind shoveling the snow to burn some extra calories.
Oh wait, maybe that's just me?27 -

Nope. Twice yesterday then called to see if my dad needed help (a neighbor did it already). Coming inside after, I wasn't winded at all. Watch said I killed 200 cals each time.12 -

Awesome! I did the same (shoveled twice) and I wasn't tired, winded or sweaty at all! Who is this girl? haha!10 -

It used to be that if I needed to get something from the freezer in the basement, I'd collect as many things as possible to take up and down the stairs in one go so that I didn't have to make so many trips. Or I'd ask my hubby or son to fetch or return things for me. Now I don't mind making multiple trips just to keep moving, especially as we live in a bungalow and it's only one flight! I can't believe I used to be THAT lazy! (It helps too that I don't get breathless climbing the stairs any more, which used to happen!)10 -
It's tough for me to NOT be efficient, so now I for myself to make multiple trips up and down the stairs to get my steps in, etc6

I'm obsessed with full body selfies now. Lol8

I sometimes feel guilty about all the time I spend working out.22

Its hard not to be moving. I want to be moving constantly, Walking and stairs and just pacing and fidgeting.
I LOVE the need for stupid errands it gives me an excuse to go out and walk.12 -
..... that you'll get into the habit of walking at EVERY opportunity...... then get REALLY upset with DH when he suggests that, perhaps, possibly...... maybe ...... we don't need a second car. I mean, how ridiculous. HOW would I get to the gym or my running group in the winter!!
Edited for typo11 -
I've lost 42+ lbs (only started counting at 280), and I already notice some things.
I'm a person who has always preferred sitting on the floor, even at my heaviest, and I get up from it much easier now.
I'm much, MUCH more sensitive to the cold than I used to be.
The weight of my then-large arms no longer presses into my face/neck while I'm sleeping, making it hard to breathe in some positions.
Clothes shopping will continue to be a nightmare until I hit maintenance.
My partner's arms fit around me better, and his attraction to me is much more apparent.
I'm not hungry all the time, which seems to be a common theme, and I do eat at a pretty moderate calorie deficit. I just eat things that fill me up, I rarely get the munchies.
My overall mental health is better, and that's coming from someone who has had severe mental health issues their entire life. This time 2 years ago, I was very seriously contemplating ending my life. It hasn't changed ONLY because of my weight loss, I've remedied other stressors that were affecting me, but it has certainly caused a massive shift in my overall perception of life.43
