What nobody tells you about losing weight

Wanted to make this thread for motivationial purposes more than anything but they don't all have to be super positive! More of what came as a surprise. I'll start..
- how much confidence it will actually bring, especially when strangers start treating you like royalty all of a sudden!
- Sitting (particularly in baths) and laying (particularly in beds) will become ever increasingly uncomfortable.
- how vain you will become! I can't walk past a mirror without checking how I look nowadays!
Your turn!

How good it feels to go down a belt notch.
How awesome it is to look at the promotional pictures at the gym and think "in a few months I could look like that".

hahaha this... My back is bruised from doing workouts on the floor because my shoulder blades stick out so much now.
No one told me how annoying buying clothes could be. It's great when they fit, but I keep going down sizes and needing to buy more and then not having a purpose for the larger sizes.
On a more positive note, I get hit on a lot more. Three different guys asked me out for Valentine's Day this year763 -
How it has inspired others especially some family and friends.495

Your shoes may no longer fit.
Don't be too quick to resize your wedding bands, most jewelers won't do it more than twice.
Find and make friends with your local consignment shop, don't splurge too much on clothes until you reach (and have stayed for a while at) goal.
Some of your friends and family members will not be supportive.
It's not a linear process (especially for us girls)! Some days/weeks you will not lose anything and that's okay. Stick to your plan.

+ That it can be an emotional roller-coaster. Some days you are happy with yourself and other days you get upset because you ate too much or you don't look right or you haven't lost any weight this week, etc. Learn to ride the roller-coaster and don't get off.
+ That it won't magically fix all your problems. In fact, some of my "problems" have come more in focus because of the time and energy I have spent on myself and not "others."

-You will discover bones you forgot (or never knew) you had.
-Support from friends/family can be pretty hit or miss.
-Not everyone will notice or comment on your loss. Most of my closest friends haven't said a word about me losing weight, but their families have, and my family has.
-Just because you lost weight doesn't mean you can go back to how you were before you were trying to lose weight. I know a few people who let themselves revert back to the old 'them', and they gained a lot of their weight back. This is a lifestyle change. A lifelong journey.672 -

I was laying on my back in bed one night and went to scratch my stomach/chest and felt something poking out on the side. I thought maybe I had popped a rib or something and started feeling around and realized that for the first time that I could remember, I could actually feel my rib cage.
Not only that, but I could feel my xiphoid process too.332 -
Stay off the scale!!! The belt is the ultimate motivator!!!505

This is so true, I used to go out in the middle of winter in a t-shirt and hoody, now I have a strappy top, a thermal top, a jumper, a coat, a scarf, a hat and gloves that come up to my elbows.
Also people who don't comment about your weightloss as it's happening feel they have the right to tell you " it's time to stop now" or "your looking skinny".
You actually start enjoying buying clothes and changing rooms feel bigger.
If there's somewhere that has a reflection your going to check yourself out in it.
Your suddenly at the front of every picture and no longer hiding at the back.378 -
- That eating healthy, veggies & low fat, lean meats) can mean eating a lot of food - some days I am just tired of eating, and still don't reach my calorie goal.
- Those who have seen me go up and down over the years are not saying anything about my weight loss (and they never say anything about the gains either)
- Working out makes you smaller even when the weight loss is not so great.
- Sometimes your friends need to change to enable your goals (aka no more drinking night out with the girls.)318 -
Your morning breadth will be just horrific!166

One of my biggest things was learning how to nest my knees for sleeping at night.
Something else that I struggle with is using up the excess energy without irritating others.
Bonus to my friends, since I'm a lightweight I offer to be DD.126 -
You will lose some friends who see you as a threat! Just let them go.....421

So glad you said this! I kind of thought it was just me! But yeah...it is horrible!103 -
How emotional it can be. Realizing you're almost 30 and you are smaller and weigh less than you did in middle school gets those feels going.503

+ You realize you don't need to go into the handicap stall in the bathroom any more to feel like you have enough room. Strange things like that.432

-People suddenly think it's okay to comment on your body/weight loss/food
-How much more fun it is to focus on fitness (which you can control) versus the scale (which you truly cannot control)
-Some "friends" get weirdly competitive or passive aggressive
-How you can look in the mirror and not see that you're not obese anymore
-I really packed on weight after hurting my sciatic nerve at work. Taking off the weight has been a miracle cure. That physical therapist wasn't kidding when she told me losing weight would make it better.
-Lying in bed and running your hands over your hipbones and ribs is really great

I've only lost 13 out of 40 lbs, but I was shocked this morning when (after realizing I'd gained a pound), I looked in the mirror and the image I saw made me feel like I had gained 10. Thankfully it motivated me to drink a lot of tea and water, so I can now see me in the mirror at my current weight and see the changes, but I couldn't believe how much my mind tricked me this morning.191

*how good it feels tobe supportive of others weight loss goals. I love cheering others on, it inspires me to stay healthy!
*how addictive working out can be
*that u may have some loose skin, depending on amount of weight loss
*how fun it is to find a variety of clothes in your size!204 -
The confidence boost and projecting it onto others!!!91

How much it annoys me when someone says, "oh, you don't have to watch what you eat!" or, "oh, you don't have to work out!"
I feel like they're disrespecting the discipline and hard work it takes to be healthy ...494 -
That it takes a while for your brain to recognize the change.
Yes...the shoes! Of course that gives me an excuse to buy more...as if I needed an excuse.
The men who will hit on you! A former boss hit on me on Facebook. Um...NO! and I should mention eew! And after more than 30 years a man that was a couple of years ahead of me in high school told me that he never liked my now ex-husband, not only because he was (and still is) a jerk, but also because he was jealous.
Clothes shopping is so much fun when you can share with your daughter. Double the wardrobe!140 -
How bloating and disgusting it feels to have a day where you eat the way the old you did. After Valentine's Day I couldn't wait to go back to not eating much!273

How uncomfortable my bed really is. After loosing 100 pounds I had to buy a new mattress. I no longer had the padding around my hips.193

I love this thread and hope it continues. It's a great reality check of the emotional, physical and life changes that happen with weight loss. Congrats to all of you and thanks for your honesty.146
