  • Paleo Diet Rules from Primal Body Primal Mind: Beyond the Paleo Diet for Total Health and a Longer Lifeby Nora Gedgaudas: 1. Don’t consume anything that causes a negative physiological reaction. 2. Eat good lipids from pastured meats, fish, butter, yogurt, coconuts, avocados, and a few other key sources. 3. Moderate…

  • Nonimouse misses the point of the Paleo diet in the modern context. Here is an excerpt from Primal Body Primal Mind by Nora Gedgoudas: Well, of course as omnivorous hominids they would have eaten almost anything to stay alive. Presumably, we noshed on a grain or two (as certain wild species do exist) scraped up here and…

  • Omg. That beet salad and pesto sounds so good! What applications do you use gelatin for? Does it add nutritional value to food?
  • Well, sorry it annoys you. I sometimes experiment with adding little non-Paleo things in and observing how I feel after. It's given me more body awareness. It's quite a different WOE from vegetarianism, lol! But, if we are going to be strict about semantics, I am very glad I was introduced to the concept. It moved me…

  • ^yes, join the group! Success stories and helpful stickies there. I've been mostly Paleo since November 2014 and adhered quite strictly to it for the first two months. It really agrees with some people and I am one of those people. I lost 18lbs in the first 3 weeks with hardly any exercise and while eating the best food of…

  • The flavored sparkling waters usually have listed in the ingredients "natural flavors" in them, which can contain glutamates similar to msg. It isn't bad for you per se, but it tricks your body into thinking it is getting nutrients when it really isn't.
  • Make sure you are getting enough good fats and calcium in your diet. Both are calming to the nervous system. Both chamomile and oat straw tea are high in calcium and they are nervines.
  • Thank you! Something new to try and I sure need the iron!
  • There are some butchers around here, I could get anything. I am up for trying any of it, if it will be delicious and benefit my health. I've heard calf's liver is a super-food, but I wouldn't know how to prepare it.
  • Organ meats? Are they really that great for you? Do you have a recipe that will make me love them?
  • Chipotle
  • Great source of omega 3 fatty acids, which you need for brain and nervous system health. Many people are deficient in omega 3s. Other food sources would be: salmon, sardines, anchovies, shrimp, purslane, and borage.

  • ^^Yes! Finally, someone mentioning gut bacteria! When I eat anti-inflammatory foods, I feel worlds better AND lose weight faster. Anyway, really great post, Mimi. Many good points there.
  • What do you mean by the bolder part? Mfp doesn't separate added sugar from sugar from fruit. I've gone over on sugar from just eating fruits and veggies.
  • This is a good article; food for thought. In finding that not all food is fully digested: "It counts not just how much energy (or calories) are available in a food, but what the body can actually use of that energy. Additional calculations are made to consider the energy expended by the body in digestion and the degree to…
  • I see nothing wrong with how person A or B eats. Both are eating nutrient dense foods. There's nothing wrong with occasional treats in the absence of health issues. The problem is you labeling person A ridiculous. To each his own. Live and let live!
  • Yes, log the fruit. It has plenty of calories and sugar. Over time, you can experiment with your macronutrients to find the best percentages for you. Maybe you try limiting all sugar (fruit included) and see how you feel energy wise, satiety, etc... You'll get the most out of the app if you log every single thing that goes…
  • ^sounds good. Is tapioca starch the same as tapioca flour?
  • I also have a very hard time with getting my days to work out to under 50g of carbs. They are still around 100gs, but am trying to assess if it really makes a difference for me. I definitely live to eat! It is great to pay attention and know at what amount of carbs do the cravings hit the hardest.
  • 'Practical Paleo' and 'Yiddish Kitchen' are two that I own and enjoy, but mainly I do the Paleo version of the cooksmarts meal plans. They are great recipes, very balanced, but not always super low carb, as there is often sweet potato and peas, but those can always be left out to keep carbs lower.
  • Hello! I just responded to your post on the Recipe community and saw that dickish answer...Wow!

  • Whatever you do, don't make the icing with avocados!! It tastes horrible after sitting out for more than like 30 minutes. You can make a really great tasting icing with coconut cream. There are incredible flourless chocolate cake recipes out there, if that is something they'd be into. Almond flour is great to bake with.…
  • Feel free to answer the question and/or comment on the quote. There need not be a direct connection between them. They are two topics that I'm interested in your thoughts on.
  • Would you say that for the majority of human history, humans have had an intimate understanding of where our food sources come from? A quote from a noted evolutionary diet researcher: 99.99% of our genes were formed before the development of agriculture. -S. Boyd Eaton, M.D., MEDICAL ANTHROPOLOGIST Please share your…
  • I don't think it is normal to have those symptoms. Those are some of the very symptoms that led me to this WOE. Are you used to eating mixed vegetables? Sometimes veggies in the brassica family (kale, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower) could be very gas producing. Eating them cooked helps and also cooking them and the meat…
  • I'm so glad people are talking about the gut micro-biome on here!! I wonder if some people with really fierce sugar and carb cravings have candida overgrowth.
  • Corn silk- ya know, those white hairs in the corn? Can be made into a tea and is a fabulous herbal remedy traditionally used to soothe UTI's.
  • Welcome! How's it going?
  • Just stop judging my food diary, k? Paleo is a template that people individualize based on their health goals. I'm not saying it's for everyone; I respect whatever makes people feel good and achieve their goals. Paleo/ primal-whatever-you-want-to-call-it has been a helpful tool for me in many regards including weight loss…
