  • I couldn't do any strengthening exercises after my op for fear of tearing my incision, in fact it still pulls and feels sore even though it was 6 months ago!! Any suggestions on the best exercises to strengthen my quads? Thanks for your help...
  • I can eat a few if I use my exercise calories too, 12200 steps today including my 115 minutes of football but I don't want to gain weight at all. Don't want to see my 28lb loss put back on at all!
  • Thanks guys, ran another 5k this morning after finishing work at 1AM, my legs are sore but it's a good sore!!
  • I won't quit, that's for sure. I think I'm just incredibly tired today.
  • Thank you both. Just one of those rubbish days. You are 100% correct re the food side of things. I just feel immensely lazy if I don't go to the gym. Strange how my mind has adopted that now...
  • 9.99 in good ol' English pounds
  • Sounds good. You will see your available calories change during the day as you exercise more...
  • They transfer over Bluetooth, but you do need to add the Fitbit device into mfp first...it's quite easy to do even if you are not too technically minded. Also, just allow the Fitbit to log exercise, don't manually enter it into mfp or it will be duplicated. HOWEVER, be aware that the Fitbit device will log quite a lot of…
  • Hi, Ive got my Fitbit charge HR and I've now been using it for a week. I think it's a good device, heart rate seems to be pretty accurate and I like the sleep tracking...as a shift worker that's really interesting. I'm not convinced the step-tracker is completely accurate as I'm not sure I take as many as it says but I…
  • It's predominantly the calves and shins. The rest seems ok...very annoying. Is it something which will go over time?
  • Only been running for a couple of weeks. It's strange because when I played football last year I could run solidly for 90 mins without the ridiculous burn!!
  • I've heard lots about the fitbit charge hr. I'm picking one up tomorrow. Heart rate is meant to be pretty accurate when doing light exercise, jogging for example. Plus I want to see where it peaks during the day. I know it won't be as accurate as a chest strap but they are just not for me. I'll report back with my…
  • thank you for this, very useful reply. Perhaps I should get one that tracks activity more than heart rate. Maybe just the standard Charge...
  • Think I'm going to turn off those alerts then. Didn't realise you could actually...thanks
  • Thanks, that helps a lot. Never really felt guilty about food before!
  • Thanks for all of the responses...being sick sucks! However, aribeiro659 summed it up...I don't want to let it derail me!! I've been good today whilst recovering slowly. Now got to get the kids sorted! Planning for a gym return on Friday...will do home exercise in between...got to!!
  • Thank you for the replies and advice, also thanks to allanmisner for your detailed response...going to mull that one over!!
  • Thank you. I do understand that in an ideal world I should be weighing every last grain of rice. Unfortunately I don't live in an ideal world, I live in a busy hectic world. I am certain food is not my problem, but maybe water retention and also a lack of decent sleep might be playing a part in this. I'm not going to give…
  • Ok, Aggelikik, I do not weigh everything, I live in a house with two adults and 3 children, I would not expect my wife to weigh everything and we cannot afford for me to eat separately each time. However, I am sure I am not eating more than I think...I spend most of the day feeling hungry at the moment despite drinking…
  • I've had exactly the same this week. I was so disappointed to see I'd gained a couple of pounds and it got me down. However I've definitely slimmed down and gained some muscle too. I think sometimes the scales should be banned for our own sanity.
  • Can you just clarify that, as my reading was 12:09.4, so according to what you have written, it is 12 stone 9??
  • Hi all, Well today I did swallow my pride and asked to be shown round the free weights room. I tried out various exercises and I can immediately see that they feel completely different to the machines...my balance was all over the place. So I am going to practice those different weights over the next week, with a proper…
  • Not much advice for you, but just wanted to say I'm a shift worker too and know how difficult it is to balance this weight loss lark with the awful hours we have to keep sometimes. Fyi, I count from midnight to midnight...helps to keep some sort of normality to it!
  • Guys, so much helpful advice here! Thank you for all the help. So, I'm going to give the weights a miss completely today so that my muscles get some rest, (just cardio today), and I'll start this in earnest tomorrow. It does frustrate me some of the poor advice that I've apparently been given so far. However some of the…
  • So in response to a couple of questions, (thanks for all the replies!), I have a set routine on each machine similar to this: 10 reps 40kg 15 reps 25kg 10 reps 40kg 15 reps 25kg So in total four sets per machine, Monday to Friday. After googling the meaning of hypertrophy I think this is probably what I'm after to begin…
  • Ha ha, love this...so true. Maybe I should get some small free weights for my home to do in between gym sessions? Also, is doing weights mon-fri with the weekend to rest ok?
  • Frankly I have no idea what to aim for. The gym I attend set up a program for me which I try to follow. However, it wasn't the most thorough process so it probably isn't that tailored to me. My goal is to get some muscle definition whilst losing weight. I don't intend to be a bodybuilder but would like to be stronger,…
  • I use the machine as I have no idea re technique lifting free weights and I don't want an injury. Plus I'm quite self conscious and therefore don't like the idea of using the free weight section. Perhaps a bit stupid but that's me I'm afraid...
  • That's an interesting theory and actually makes sense...will have to see if it continues. Thanks for the reply!
  • When I persevere and complete my program after an early shift despite my brain screaming NOOOOOOOO
