Food diary - honest feedback required please
hi all, My diary is now open for the world to see and I wondered if anyone can take a look at today's entries and give me some feedback, after I provide a little explanation? Today represents my average day. More often than not I'll have 2 hard boiled eggs instead of the toast and chocolate spread for breakfast but…

Attitude towards treats
hi all, Do any of you find it hard to stay balanced about attitudes towards treats? I've been so strict over the last 5 months with hardly any treats of any sort and it's worked well. However today I wanted some chocolate even though I know it takes me over my limit for the day. I am beating myself up for it yet…

Fitbit - logs steps but not intensity?
Hi all, I have a Fitbit charge HR and I was musing over this today. As we all know, sometimes we like to eat back the occasional exercise calorie gain. Well if I ran 10000 steps today instead of walked 10000, Fitbit would still just credit me for steps completed rather than Take into account the intensity I completed them…

Strange/embarrassing question regarding belly fat...
so, when I sit down now I get a couple of creases in my belly which were not there before. Is this a sign of losing my belly? I'm pretty certain it's changing shape. I do quite a lot of push-ups, pull-ups and chin-ups too which I know help to strengthen the core and therefore abs. Obviously I can't see my abs BUT well,…

Massive appetite...questions relating to this...
Hi all, Well this week I have been suffering from a head cold. Along with the head cold I have been really tired and extra hungry. Is it proven that colds lead to increased appetite? I am off to a meeting this evening and when I get home I just want to eat cheese and crackers!!! I haven't done any running today as been at…

Is this wise?
hi all, I had a blister on my heel today from new work boots which put me off going out for a run as my running shoes would likely make it worse. Therefore I ran 5k on the spot in my living room without shoes on. So, aside from the obvious dose of crazy, do I run the risk of injury doing this? Thanks BFM

Fitbit and MFP calorie adjustment Help
Hi all, Just a question for you. I have a Fitbit charge HR. This morning I went for a 5k run with my heart rate definitely in the high range. However when I sync my Fitbit to MFP it just credits me 197 calories for taking over 5000 steps. However, I don't think it takes into account the heart-rate and effort for a run.…

Calling all runners - opinions please?
Hi all, I've never been a runner, always turned away from it as too much like hard work and had sore knees too. Well recently I've started running 5k and this morning achieved a PB of 26 mins and 12 seconds. How does that look to you more experienced runners? The first minute of that time was a fast walk to warm up then I…

Tell me, what's your secret? *rolls eyes*
since I have lost weight people keep asking me, "Tell me what's your secret?" There is no secret. I always reply I'm eating less and moving more, it's that simple! When will people realise that there is no magic formula to weight loss? The other effect this is having is that I'm starting to get comfortable because of being…

Excess calories = how much weight?
Hi all, How many excess calories would I need to have eaten in order to put a lb of weight on? I'm sure I've eaten pretty well but I've just got a "sense" I've put on over the last few days. I can only check my weight at the gym so that it's consistent but due to personal circumstances I can't get there until later this…

Earphones around £50
hi all, I know this question has probably been asked before. However I'm at work and have no time to search through all of the posts. I am sick and tired of my earphones falling out when I'm running. Can anyone recommend a decent pair of in ear headphones for use with a iPhone 6 for around £50? I'd be most grateful. I've…

Exercise promotes weight loss - my perspective
hi all, Well I just wanted to voice my developing opinion that whilst calories in vs calories out is what actually makes you lose weight, exercise plays an important part...for psychological reasons. On days where I go to the gym and workout, I am always so much more conscientious about what I eat...regardless of whether…

Calling all physio's or medical people!
hi all, I'm so thoroughly hacked off tonight!! Played football this evening and once again my left quad is in agony. It feels like it completely tightens up to a point where it will snap. Can anyone give me any insight as to why this might be happening? I had a left inguinal hernia operation last year, would that have…

Injured - biscuits doing the healing
ok so I injured my leg tonight playing football which has totally hacked me off. So I've just eaten 5 ginger nut biscuits and frankly I could finish the pack. First time I've had a failure like this but it's so annoying spending months getting fitter than I've ever been only to get injured doing something I love. I want…

3 months progress - SV and NSV
well I figured it was time to post something here which might encourage others. When I started doing this I weighed nearly 13 and a half stone. I started losing a couple of pounds or so before using mfp. Today I weighed in at 11 stone 8 pounds - nearly 2 stone lost in 3 months!! I also fit into two suits that I couldn't…

Can I rant today please??
feeling fed up today with it all. I weighed myself at the gym today pre-workout and have overnight gone from 11st11 to 12 stone dead, which I know is probably water weight etc from lifting yesterday but still it is so de motivating. As I've mentioned before I'm a shift worker and I had about 6 hours sleep last night, up at…

uh oh pulled thigh muscle... please help
So I pulled my thigh muscle this evening playing football and it is killing me. I put ice on it as soon as I got in but it is obviously still sore. I have to stand a lot in my job which isn't ideal. However, what I'm more annoyed about is the thought of no gym this week. Is there anything I can do which will avoid the use…

Menu for tomorrow...can you help?
ok, I feel ravenous tonight but I have been determined not to go over my daily limit of 1860 calories. So, tomorrow I am working from 11:22 to 21:00. I have an early break at work at 12:30 and I won't get dinner until 21:30. So I planned to have 2 poached eggs on two slices of wholemeal toast for breakfast. Then for lunch…

Kettlebells
has anyone else seen that lidl has been selling these recently? I wanted something to lift at home in between gym sessions so I picked up two 15kg ones today, 9.99 each. Love them so far, can do different workouts with them at home and make my arms and chest ache! Splendid!!

Leg muscle burn during exercise
ok, Just wondering how or why this is the case: At the gym today I did 20 minutes running on the treadmill during which my leg muscles burned intensely. However, when I then swapped over to the elliptical for a similar duration and at a higher intensity than usual, those same muscles weren't burning. I really struggle with…

Fitbit Charge HR or???
Hi all, So, with the fitness bug truly grabbing me and being a bit of a tech head, I would like to buy a fitness tracking wristband with a built in heart monitor, (not with a chest strap), and I was looking at the FitBit Charge HR which looks great but is quite pricey at 120 quid! So, before I take the plunge I thought I…

How badly did I fail?
ok, I'll keep this brief. I had an evil stomach bug over the weekend which wiped me out the last few days. Today is the first day I've felt more normal and I managed to do half a workout at home today. I missed breakfast today, (sort of forgot as I got busy), had a few crackers with cheese for lunch and then a healthy…

Sickness bug and weight loss/exercise
Hi all, Well since thursday my whole family has been struck down with a horrible sickness bug. To top it all off, my wife is away until this coming thursday, so I am tending to the rest of the family for the week, which means no gym for me until Friday!! This is the first proper interruption to my gym routine this year and…

Weight vs exercise vs diet vs sleep vs me! **Wall of text**
Hi all, I don't know if this is a vent post, a fed-up post or simply looking for advise, you tell me. I started my new healthy lifestyle at the end of the first week of January. It had nothing to do with a new years resolution or anything, but I had hernia surgery last year and had stopped any form of exercise completely.…

Reading the gym scales properly
hi all, I weighed myself at the gym today on their digital scales. The readout said 12:09.4 I was immediately thrilled as I read it as 12 stone and just under 1 pound. However, I then thought it could be 12 stone 9 pounds, which would mean an increase in weight. So when I got home I phoned the gym and he said that I had…

Shoulder Press - advice
well to get straight to the point...I find this particular exercise nearly impossible! I use a machine at the gym rather than free weights. So I have a program of 4 sets, which are as follows: 1st set 10 reps at 40kg 2nd set 15 reps at 25kg 3rd set 10 reps at 40kg 4th set 15 reps at 25kg I get through the first two sets…

Mayo substitute
hi all, Up until recently I had mayonnaise with virtually every meal, great with everything in my opinion...but...oh so unhealthy! So, tonight we had a homemade chilli con carne and I had Greek yoghurt on the side instead of Mayo. Is this a decent substitute or am I still missing the trick? Thanks

Strange question...
so, when I'm doing 30 mins on the elliptical machine I have started to get pins and needles in my left toes, is this simply because I have got my trainers done up too tight? I think my technique is ok and apart from the sweating and general feelings that come with a workout I feel fine... Any ideas or am I being stupid?

New to this and have a few questions...thanks! (Wall of text, sorry!)
Hi all, Well, this year after my kids had renamed me "Fatman" instead of Batman, i realised I really needed to change. So, on the 6th of January I joined a gym, (If i pay for it i'm more motivated to go), and decided to eat more healthily too. I am Male, 5'9" and currently weigh 182lb or 13 stone. I have too much belly and…

New starter, M 5'9" 13 stone. Want to lose at least a stone and tone!

Well, this year after my kids had renamed me "Fatman" instead of Batman, i realised I really needed to change. So, on the 6th of January I joined a gym, (If i pay for it i'm more motivated to go), and decided to eat more…
