Hi all,

Well this week I have been suffering from a head cold. Along with the head cold I have been really tired and extra hungry. Is it proven that colds lead to increased appetite?

I am off to a meeting this evening and when I get home I just want to eat cheese and crackers!!!

I haven't done any running today as been at work for a 9.5 hour shift. However, I have done 60 pushups, 30 chin-ups and 30 pull-ups through the day.

They need some extra calories right??

Struggling massively today. 35lbs lost since January and so paranoid about going backwards.

Will be hitting the gym tomorrow morning thats for sure.

Anyhow, replies are welcome, whether they be harsh or not!

Thanks all...

Catch ya later!

Being sick activates your immune system and burns some calories, which can lead to being hungrier.

And yes, you should log your workout and eat back the calories. If you don't usually eat back calories this is probably a good time to bend this rule and fuel up so you can recover.

When I am sick...its impossible for me to watch my calories...all I want to do is eat. Usually, unless I am super sick, I still work out but in truth, if you blow off 3-4 days to get better and then jump back on the horse...you will be a week behind. That is NOT going backwards.

I am not commenting on whether or not there is any true correlation between a cold and appetite...just that I 100% know your pain ;)

What's that old saying? "Feed a cold, starve a fever?"

    There maybe truth there.

    Hope you feel better soon.

You could try thinking about what your body needs and how you can both satisfy your cravings and help your body get over the cold.

If your wanting cheese and crackers then your wanting some protein and fat. Maybe a bowl of chili (if it's spicy then that might help clear out sinuses!) or instead of crackers make a nice sandwich with some good chees but then also add some veggies to help it be more filling and get some vitamin c in!

p.s. I always eat at maintenance when I'm feeling under the weather. I might not lose but I give my body a break and can fit in more healthy choices.

Confrats on the 35 lbs loss - that's amazing! What's your daily calorie allowance? How about getting one of those portioned snack packs so you know exactly how many calories you will be taking in without having to completely deprive yourself?

Thanks for all of the replies.

My daily calorie allowance is 1790 which I'm pretty much at today. I have exercise calories from my Fitbit available...but that's just walking around normally.

Looking forward to running tomorrow and going to the gym.

My TDEE is somewhere around 2260.
