Strange question...

so, when I'm doing 30 mins on the elliptical machine I have started to get pins and needles in my left toes, is this simply because I have got my trainers done up too tight? I think my technique is ok and apart from the sweating and general feelings that come with a workout I feel fine...

Any ideas or am I being stupid?

Happens to me, and from what I've heard it is pretty common. What I was told, it's because you have constant pressure on both feet, rather than a short break with each step. But I am not an expert and would be interested to see other theories

That's an interesting theory and actually makes sense...will have to see if it continues. Thanks for the reply!

Doesn't sound like anything serious to my unprofessional ears, but I'd keep listening to your body incase it gets progressively worse or other symptoms show up :) In the meantime, you could try lacing your shoes in a different pattern to see if that helps. Runners often experience hot spots or odd spots with tingly feelings on a run, and sometimes changing the lacing pattern on a shoe can help by changing how pressure is distributed.

I have this happen to me too. So I wiggle my toes or step off for a moment. I also switch machines like a 15 minute round on the treadmill, then a 15 minute round on the stair master, and so on.

I def get that too on the elliptical. It goes away pretty quickly after, so I don't stress about it.

Are your toes pressed up against the front of the pedal? They could just be getting squished.

Happens to me too. I don't do it anymore. Too much pressure on my big toe joints.
Spinning class / stationary bike. Swimming too.
    It is a circulation thing.
