Hi all,

Well since thursday my whole family has been struck down with a horrible sickness bug. To top it all off, my wife is away until this coming thursday, so I am tending to the rest of the family for the week, which means no gym for me until Friday!!

This is the first proper interruption to my gym routine this year and I really do not want to go backwards!!

I have lost not far off a stone so far and I really dont want to stall now.

I hardly ate a thing yesterday, (my turn to be ill), and I don't feel like eating much today.

Can anyone share their experiences with this, with regards to how it affected your "diet"/weight loss and exercise?

When I feel up to it, (hopefully tomorrow), I will be doing exercise at home...got to decide what to do in my living room whilst the 9 month old is having her nap...

Anyway, nothing else to add, just frustrated!

BFM

You know, being sick is a great time to practice "normal life interruptions" from working out, eating perfectly healthy, etc. It's a thing that happens, because we are people living lives. You feel like c--p anyway, so why not give your body that is working hard fighting off sickness a break?

I know your primary concern is habit, but for what it's worth, it takes at least two weeks to see *any* drop in fitness, and even that, it's going to be very slight. Heck, after a week or so off, you'll probably head back to the gym with muscles recovered and stronger.

My personal rule is, sickness in the neck or above (head cold, headache), I'm at the gym. Sickness below the neck (chest cough, stomach bug, etc), take a break.

I'm so sorry your family is sick.

Before Christmas, my whole family, myself included, got the flu. I lived on gatorade, ginger ale, toast, andtea for a few days. I wound up retaining about 5 lbs of water while I was sick even though I ate very little. It came off once I got better.

My advice would be to eat/drink what makes you feel better, and track, but not limit your calories until you are well, and don't workout unless you are up to it.

    Feel better!

Worry about getting better, as the gym will be there when you are.

My own experience has been that when I have been ill with a fever in the 100-102 range over 2-3 days, I have dropped a pound or two which did not return. My experience with non-fever illnesses is that any weight lost returned (probably fluid related mostly) and that I felt less strong on workouts for a few days (so learned to ratchet down intensity during recovery from illness).

Since starting 157 days ago I've had kidney stones 3 times (two of those included an infection in the kidney). The worst one was about 3 weeks ago (due to the side effects of the medication) I wasn't able to hit the gym for 10 days, plus I was having difficulty keeping good down (except things like white bread, potatoes etc). I gained 10 pounds from the IV fluids in the hospital, which did come back off but it took about a week (likely took longer because the function of my kidney was compromised by the infection. I usually go to the gym 6 days a week, this week I missed Friday (my youngest is sick and sick kids can't attend the kid care at the gym) Friday night I had the final (I hope) kidney stone start to move, so I missed yesterday and I'll miss today. For dinner last night my husband brought home bbq that I know was filled with sodium so I'm up 1.4 pounds today . I'm excited to hit the gym tomorrow and get back to my regular routine, but I don't stress about it. *kitten* happens and we need to do get through being sick and get better. Just don't let it derail you.

Thanks for all of the responses...being sick sucks! However, aribeiro659 summed it up...I don't want to let it derail me!!

I've been good today whilst recovering slowly. Now got to get the kids sorted!

Planning for a gym return on Friday...will do home exercise in between...got to!!
