Thanks very much everyone, helpful advice re mfp too...

Seeing as you are the second person to mention it, I suppose I'm not really sure what my maintenance would be anymore. Also, what go to sources of tasty protein would you recommend? I'm not keen on the whole idea of protein shakes if I'm completely honest. Thanks for the feedback so far...
-
Fair comment, the protein normally increases with the eggs but not today. Deficit just seems safer that increasing it... 5'9" height by the way...average around 10-15000 steps per day according to my Fitbit.

Yes!!!!! Only this morning I was ready to chuck it all in after having a poor weekend. But then I realised that I've lost over 3 stone (42lb) and that I've run at least 5k for the last 5 days in a row. It's an emotional roller coaster but it's worth it...don't give up.

I haven't been too aggressive so far. However, I'd be interested to know how to find out if negative adjustments are turned on...

Thanks for all of the replies people, really helpful. The good thing is I haven't eaten back any more than I burn, in fact often a lot less. However, I'm glad that the Charge HR does reflect intensity somewhat! Cheers BFM

That surprises me if that's true, I exert myself a whole lot more when I'm running vs when I walk, surely the calorific burn must be higher?
-
I think it's brilliant. Thought it would be a bit gimmicky but it works very well and is certainly motivational. Will be getting my wife one when I can afford it...
-
I never saw it either but it's very frustrating. I expect in future this will be part of the paid app!

Ok, my two cents. I have had a cold all week. On Friday I went for a run in the cold and think I overdid it, plus I ran without breakfast and also before lunch. I've been cold and shivery since then and I'm having fish and chips tonight because my body seems to be craving it. Our bodies tell us what we need I think...

Interestingly, when I use the stationary bike at the gym it registers zero steps on the Fitbit. So Fitbit really is only good for any step based activity. Sounds obvious but not everyone gets it!
-
Very interesting link thanks. I suppose it is such a personal thing that no one is going to experience the same either.
-
Thanks for all of the replies. My daily calorie allowance is 1790 which I'm pretty much at today. I have exercise calories from my Fitbit available...but that's just walking around normally. Looking forward to running tomorrow and going to the gym. My TDEE is somewhere around 2260.
-
Lastly, make sure you set the activity level in mfp to sedentary. That way any exercise that the Fitbit logs will be your only exercise and therefore any exercise calories will only be counted once. If you set your activity level to something higher it will automatically give you a higher calorie allocation which will…

Thanks for all the replies people. Certainly not what I want to do regularly as it sure does hurt more than normal running! The equivalent of 5k...steps, time etc etc.
-
I am set to lightly active in MFP. How does that work out for me? For info, I have been losing at least 1lb per week. MFP has restricted my calorie intake to 1790 per day now, plus whatever exercise calories I choose to eat back.

Saw a work colleague today for the first time in a few weeks and he said "wow, you are half the man you were!" Fortunately he was only referring to weight loss!!
-
4.5mile run, 2 sets of 35 push ups.
-
I forgot to eat breakfast before a run the other day and set a pb for 5k. All I had was an espresso before setting out.
-
This might not be the answer you were lookin for, but the emotional benefits are huge! I've just ran 4.5miles and its lifted my mood hugely. The pounds will follow!
-
If you have been trying to do it today, don't bother. The link is broken today, no ones fitbits are syncing...
-
Nope and it's driving me crazy!
-
Love that! Might include Cillit Bang in that too...
-
Was your bike riding done cycling to work? If so, just because you are off work doesn't mean you can't still get out and cycle...
-
Yes I'm logging everything and I'm still under or thereabouts every day. It might just all be in my head. I certainly haven't eaten 3500 over, in fact I haven't even eaten at maintenance. I try to stick to my 1800 odd calories.
-
Thanks, that's a couple more interesting options to consider. I still can't make my mind up!! Cheers BFM

That's one I was looking at actually...nice to hear someone who rates them. Did you find them easy to fit in your ear with their unusual shape?
-
I've had mine for a couple of months now. It's good and it does help with motivation but it's accuracy is sometimes a concern. This morning I checked it before I got out of bed. Apparently I had taken 81 steps despite not getting up from a horizontal lying down position. Couldn't work that one out! The heart rate feature I…

Is that likely to get better over time or is it a case of tough luck?!

Thank you both for your helpful replies. I will try the squat technique you suggest. Also nice to know that the hernia op may have damaged the surrounding nerves etc, I can at least attribute it to something.
