  • Change over to veggies and low glycemic index carbs in small amts, like garbanzos and other legumes, plus proteins and a little fat. Limit calories. Small freq meals. And monitor blood glucose and insulin carefully. As you reduce calories, your insulin requirement will decrease, too. Best to work with an experienced…
  • Dont try to diet while breastfeeding. We humans store lots of environmental toxins in our fat. Breaking down fat while breastfeeding means those toxins get released and wind up in the milk. Just eat normally and some weight will come off naturally. You can diet after you wean.
  • possibly ketosis from low carb diet. This causes bad breath. It's not bad to be in ketosis - it's the basis of the Atkins diet, and the ketogenic diet to prevent seizures. UTI unlikely unless you have urgency (feel like you need to run to get to bathroom), frequent urination, and the feeling that your bladder isn't empty,…
  • Woohoo! 155 today (well, really 154.5). Dropping my daily calories to 1200/d seems to have helped, even though I often overshot it by a bit. Also, been trying to walk the dog more often, and at a faster pace. Helps that at least there is dry blacktop in the middle of the road! So I guess I broke through the plateau! Gives…
  • Cut way back or eliminate the carbs (bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.) They tend to make your blood sugar go up fast, thus causing insulin to rise, which leads to a drop in blood glucose, causing hunger and irritability. Go with vegetables (non-starchy ones) and low cal fruits, like strawberries or an apple. More protein, and…
  • http://www.epi.umn.edu/cvdepi/video/the-minnesota-semistarvation-experiment/ This is a link to a video summary of the Minnesota Starvation experiment done in late 1944-45, narrated by a participant. Normal - weight, healthy young men volunteered for a starvation study. Fascinating. The takeaway is that, given your history,…
  • Your calorie intake is still pretty high for losing weight for a 5 ft 11 in man. It would be appropriate for you to cut your intake to 1500 kcal/d if you can tolerate it. That is not an unhealthy caloric intake for a man of your height. It's low, and you'll lose, but it's not dangerous for you. Hubby is 6 ft 2, was about…
  • Got back the thyroid results. My med, which was adjusted upward slightly about a month ago, is at exactly the right dose now, so can't blame that. Meanwhile, I'm finding it VERY hard to stay under 1200 kcal/d. I'm not regaining, but not losing either. I just keep trying to stick to logging everything. So frustrating that…
  • We realized that we LIVE in the kitchen! Computer, homework, cooking, cleaning up, etc. We now deliberately make an effort to get out of the kitchen after the meal, and stay out of it. Makes it easier that we've always had a no food except in the kitchen rule in the house.
  • Thus far I have found nothing but good will and support! Good luck!
  • Well, it's done. Lowered it to 1200kcal/d. It's official, now! Must obey the almighty app!
  • Another thing. I can't honestly say that the weight loss so far was on 1300 kcal/d, because only a few days after I had begun using the app, I had a nasty stomach virus that made it easy to eat very little for a few days, perhaps even a week before I had a normal appetite again. So maybe I really do need to lower that…
  • Still hovering at 157-158, grrrrr. Still staying below 1300 kcal/d. No exercise other than walking the dog. I could climb stairs in my house. Streets are too snow/ice slippery for running, and no time or inclination for a gym. I know it's not water weight, since I eat a mostly low salt diet already, and am on a low dose of…
  • Besides, a goal wt of 135 for someone who is 66 inches tall is not a very "lean" weight. Shouldn't be this hard to get back to my 33 yr old wt on <1300 kcal/d! Is this normal?
  • Yes to logging it all, measuring but not weighing but know I'm pretty close. Only thing that should be by weight, not volume, is lean meats. I don't think a couple oz extra of lean meat occasionally could be screwing it up that much. Besides, most days I'm below the 1300, even below 1200 most days. And I'm not even close…
  • No protein shakes at all. Just eat sensible diet of lean protein in meat, fish, chicken, eggs, etc. Plus fruits amd veggies and a little complex carbs, according to your daily calorie limit. Protein shakes are a weight gain tool, and you are overweight.
  • Mfp is a trigger for ed for you. Ask your md for a referral to a therapist who specializes in ed. You shouldnt be counting calories. Eat three good meals and a few snacks daily and forget about wt loss. You are a beautiful wt for your ht.
  • First of all, you look pretty good now. You are going to look amazing soon. So brave of you to take and post these. I am sure you will have the determination to stick with it.
  • Well, it would be nice to live to see grandchildren. But truthfully, it is the app that is making me stick to it. No trouble today whatsoever, despite the party and junk food. It seems to good to be true.
  • We humans store toxins in our fat. Breastfeeding is not the time to diet, because it mobilizes toxins stored in fat, releasing them into the milk. Eat a normal healthy diet, and you will lose weight without calorie restriction while you are breastfeeding. When you are done breastfeeding, you can calorie restrict. But 130…
  • WOW!!!! That's amazing! I am so impressed! I will be so happy if I can lose that percentage of my body weight in that little time. Thank you for posting this. It will keep me motivated to continue.
