That might be the quote of the day! I'm still laughing. --- It's worth noting that a tolerance for a substance doesn't mean said substance is not still affecting the body. The occasional glass of wine or cup of coffee is highly unlikely to have any negative effects whatsoever, but chronic use of either will negatively…

Not a cheat at all, totally within plan.
-
Not at all. The other times I've been successful at losing I substituted alternative versions of whatever I was overeating and then went right back to the regular versions when I attempted maintenance. It wasn't until I wrecked my health in a high stress job along with poor diet, poor sleep, and a 1,000 mg a day caffeine…
-
I get carb and calorie creep every time I stop weighing, measuring, and logging. I'll try again once I get to maintenance.
-
One other perspective that I was only able to adopt after I gave up caffeine - any addiction or craving is a symptom of some deeper issue that needs to be addressed for optimal health and well being. If I can't walk away from something comfortably, cue the robot from 'Lost in Space': "Danger Will Robinson, danger!"

I'd restate Gallowmere's post slightly - studies on excitotoxins have mixed results at best. In addition, I have known people that have had negative reactions to artificial sweeteners ranging from the minor (fatigue/low energy) to the moderate (temporary short term memory loss) to the severe (benign brain tumors), all of…

@KnitOrMiss Thanks for the info - I'll dig into Vogel's stuff. The low thyroid was new and unexpected so I might be getting a little aggressively defensive about things. Thanks for the perspective!
-
@KnitOrMiss Do you have any insight into why keto stresses your adrenals? Also, would you define 'significantly more carbs'? I'm eager to hit my goal weight, of course, but not at the expense of setting my endocrine system back. As I mentioned in another thread I just had my first abnormal thyroid lab results, so I'm…

I've been dealing with adrenal issues for the last few years. I couldn't make any lasting progress until I walked away from caffeinated drinks (except for one cup of decaf BPC per day) for good. Dietary changes made a huuuuge difference (LCHF Paleo/Primal), but I never started to get really well until I stopped the…

Only 11 pounds down net, but I've gained and lost inches in the right places in the last 7 weeks. I guess that jersey will be the official jersey of my progress.
-
@abkuroneko and @emilybeaver great progress! And all these on just this page. Great successes happening here.
-
What a transformation! Way to go!
-
You looks much healthier now, amazing progress!
-
Really great progress! And you're absolutely adorable.
-
Just...wow. Congrats on a huge transformation! When was your profile pic taken?

Gallowmere is correct - which means it's really easy to tell if you are overdoing the protein. You should also know that eating 'too much' protein is actually pretty hard and takes a specific focus along with a lack of proper hydration. 10-15% protein is far too low for optimal health at any healthy level of calorie…

Add me as well.

I'm recovering from 10 years at two very high stress jobs where I was consuming over 1000 mg of caffeine a day, and not sleeping well or otherwise taking good care of myself. During that time I also dealt with chronic Lyme, leaky gut, adrenal fatigue, and multiple food sensitivity issues. I was a mess! I am managing to…

Following this. Just had my first labs showing high TSH with low T4 and T3 (3.49, 1.0, 2.8). Started Iodine Synergy today and trying to learn all I can. Good luck to everyone.

I aim for 15/25/60 and do a lot of Maffetone-style biking and light mountaineering. I consider myself fat adapted while also being able to burn some carbs without shocking my system. I carry Bulletproof bars, Epic bars, roasted and salted mixed nuts and electrolytes while I'm on the trail and frequently have a zero carb…

Congrats!!!

Good catch, that was an overly simplistic post to ally neweuquol's concerns. To clarify, triglycerides get broken down into fatty acids, which cannot be converted to glucose, and glycerol which can be converted into glucose in the liver. The glucose provided by the liver will not present an obstacle to your cancer…
-
That is correct, fat cannot be converted to glucose. My mother successfully beat bladder cancer using the same diet strategy. Good luck!

I had mine out at age 42. It broke off when they touched it do they had to pull the laproscope and cut me open, leaving a lovely scar and at the heaviest weight of my life. You have my sympathy and my empathy!

Bulletproof's Brain Octane Oil is pure gold as far as how good it makes me feel and is practically flavorless. Super alternative to coconut oil.

What the actual *kitten*. He's a full sized *kitten*-nozzle for sure. Not only do you have an opportunity to find a non-*kitten*-y guy, but also to hone your radar and avoid such *kitten*-hats in the future. Congrats on dodging that bullet!

Taxed or banned. Tax policy, including sin tax, is extremely effective in modifying behavior. We need tax revenues to pay for roads, cops, and the military anyway so we might as well raise the revenue in the most helpful way possible. Either that or ban health insurance so I don't have to pay for the consequences of other…

@samanthaluangphixay Thanks for responding. I have reset my macros in the goals section, so it must be a glitch. That's frustrating. Hopefully they get it corrected soon. My diary entries would not affect the Your Daily Goals line.

A bit of a derail - Working2BLean, not criticizing your use of carbs on your ride, but I'm wondering if you've done any reading on fat-adapted athletes? I ride road and mountain and mountaineer (much more slowly than before given the extra 45 I'm currently carrying) and am having great success doing 6+ hour rides and…

+1 on avoiding artificial sweeteners and making sure to get enough fat. I've had to learn to just avoid trying to create low-carb substitutes of high-carb food for all the reasons mentioned - hunger, cravings, and a tendency to fall short on fats. Also, for me smoothies are a gateway drug - even veggie smoothies.
