Taking a break is a lot easier if you view food as fuel. If food is comfort, or pleasure, or a reward, success is even less likely.

*Most* people that stop logging, weighing, and measuring eventually put all the weight back on and more. The statistics are incontrovertible. You may indeed be one of the very, very few that keep the weight off long term without structure around their eating plan, but the odds are overwhelmingly against you. It's not…

You might have a food sensitivity or food allergy. They are common, and what you're describing is a common side effect.

@midwesterner85 Thanks for the explanation! I'm going to experiment a bit and see how my body responds.
-
@midwesterner85 Have you been doing the 'no plants' thing? How did you find it? It's very appealing to me on many levels, although I don't know that I could go full raw meat like some do. I'm back after 6 months off the wagon, sorry if I've missed a lot of this conversation.

Highly likely! You could be reacting to any number of the ingredients in the bars, including whatever artificial sweetener they are using.

It's better to look at urine frequency and output rather than water input. Input needs will vary based on activity level, temperature, etc., and output is a consistent and reliable hydration indicator - and much more reliable than thirst. If you're peeing pale yellow to clear every two and a half to three hours, you're…

Very nice indeed! Congrats on the upward movement of numbers. I always thought that the belief that powerlifters had to be fat was dumb.

Oh, that is an awesome find, @KnitOrMiss! Very, very good stuff. @SuperCarLori this might be the answer to the question we were asking last week in your newsfeed.

+1 for this, it's a great resource. It's important to note that if he's not training hard, but just doing circuits on machines or something, that way of eating will make him fat. Eating to his hunger would be a much better approach. If he's learning to do the big three compound movements with heavy weight and low reps,…

I do great in the gray area as long as I keep my electrolytes up. It's astonishing how much I need to supplement though. Take a hard look at your electrolytes.

Yes! Being bonk proof is freedom.

Two of the best posts I've ever seen in a forum like this.

Wow, I had to go looking for that in the Android app. Thanks for pointing it out! It's too bad they aren't easier to see on the website.

Similar hip flexor issues here. My favorite is the goblet squat for those, but limited dumbbell and kettlebell selection at my gym sucks. Might have to try the Zerchers, it's been a couple decades since I've done those.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. MFP's forum tech seems decades out of date. I'll try to start remembering to hit those buttons. Awesomes for everyone!

I'm finding I don't want to eat at all on longer rides, but I end up with a huge deficit at the end of the day. Those deficits catch up to me in the evenings and I end up feeling depleted unless I force myself to eat during the ride. BPC on the bike would be perfect! I have not yet experimented with UCAN because I am still…

This is worth 1,000,000 bars of gold-pressed latinum.

Well, except as muscle through some sort of resistance training.

Pure gold.

Spot on, both of you. It's worth reiterating the extra concern for women of bone density that you mentioned, @genmon00. The one solution to that problem that transcends all other solutions is resistance training. Drugs and supplements don't actually work without it.

Definitely normal. A couple other things - make sure you're talking to a competent trainer; it's harder to find one than you think. Also, I'm not a fan of trying to combine cardio and lifting - it's a poor compromise with a worse return on your investment of time and energy once you're through the acclimation period. Since…

I'm getting an updated DEXA next Monday. Performance up all the way around, but the scale isn't moving in any appreciable way. I hate the way it makes me guess.

Great news!!!

I just googled that, holy crap (pun intended) was that funny!

[quote="photo_kyla;10443603"I honestly am at the "what's the point?" place. I HATE counting and measuring and food restrictions and it's just adding insult to injury to work so hard at it and not see any change on the scale. (I actually trained to be a baker and love carbs and baked goods, but have cut them out in this…

I had not seen those, thanks so much for sharing!

@SuperCarLori I know this isn't what you meant, but I can't help it: https://youtube.com/watch?v=-oqAU5VxFWs I agree with everyone above. If you start *kitten* up because you're on here, it's a problem. Otherwise, please stay. :)
