  • This is really common. If you Google "Leg muscles twitching after walk" there are lots of articles about it. TL;DR: nothing to worry about. :)
  • Walking is great exercise, and it's low impact so it shouldn't aggravate any medical conditions. Distance is more important than speed. Exercise isn't necessary for weight loss by the way, but it's great for fitness. Low carb also isn't necessary for weight loss, a calorie deficit is. Eat what you want that keeps you…
  • Being honest with yourself is a big step. You'll find lots of support here!
  • I walk around my house while I'm talking on the phone. A 20 minute catch-up call with my aunt can add up to a lot of steps, and it helps me focus on the conversation because I'm not distracted by the TV or my computer.
  • My Fitbit automatically syncs my steps and exercise and MFP assigns it calories. Maybe I should start my own thread.
  • Any suggestions on how to account for only eating back half of your exercise calories in the weekly approach? If MFP gave her 2654 exercise calories over the week, and she is trying to only eat half of those back, wouldn't this be an appropriate calorie intake? Not trying to derail the thread, it's just that my totals…
  • Coffee Mate Natural Bliss for me. Not too sweet, and I'll take the calories. I just branched out and tried their cinnamon version and I love it. The honey pecan version, not so much.
  • Unfortunately, motivation and friends aren't reliable. You have to be determined to do this on your own. Like Phoebe said, stick to your commitment to yourself.
  • When it comes down to it, we all do it on our own. We CAN do it!
  • I do it, too! I went from a 12/14 to a size 4, and don't get it when people call me "tiny." I got a pair of size 4 jeans and when I held them up I thought "there's no way a human adult could fit in these," but I put them on and zipped them up with no problem, like a magician switched them out for a different size in the…
  • Yep. Your body's still logging even if you aren't. :D
  • Fake cheesecake - crumble up a graham cracker, top with nonfat plain yogurt and chocolate sauce or berries.
  • Macros don't matter for weight loss, it's all calories. Some people stick to certain macros for other reasons (protein to help build muscle, etc.), but for weight it's CICO (calories in, calories out).
  • You don't have to work out to lose weight, you just need a calorie deficit. I lost my first 25 pounds with no extra exercise. As for motivation: what PigHerder said. It takes determination, a good plan, and patience, not motivation.
  • I make my own protein/granola bars. There are lots of recipes on allrecipes.com, I made up my own recipe by combining them. I wrap each bar in waxed paper and write the weight in grams on the wrapper. Makes it easy to grab one from the fridge and log it. It's a little work/time to make them, but it makes a batch of 16 or…
  • I'm a few straws short of a bale of hay! It also happens to be about what my dog weighs. :)
  • Instead of the cinnamon you could use cocoa powder, Ovaltine, or protein powder in vanilla or any of the other flavors. I like Quest protein powder. There's also a protein-rich flavoring called Oh My Spice that comes in flavors like Birthday Cake and Apple Pie.
  • I wouldn't mind seeing a 6' tall, 189-pound guy in a tight t-shirt - do you have any pics? ;) Honestly, people can really be jerks to each other, especially about weight. It's their flaw, not yours. Great job on your 38 pounds!
  • It depends - for someone who's new and seems friendly, I'll say something like: "Nice workout - how are you measuring your calorie burn? It seems kind of high, and a lot of calorie burn estimators tend to way overestimate. If you don't get the results you expect on the scale you may want to try a different calculator." And…
  • I'm Hermione Granger. Very glad the Hogwarts robes I bought a few years ago are sized by height rather than the usual dress sizes or they'd be way too big on me now. Tonight I'm going to bed before I do anything to get myself killed, or worse: expelled. :D o:)
  • Hello and hugs! Counting calories totally works with determination and patience. Don't get discouraged if your weight fluctuates to over 200 for a few days, especially if you start new exercise - it's water weight and will go away. Stick to a reasonable plan and your weight will start trending down. Give it time. <3
  • Peanut butter, butter, bread, cheese, macaroni and cheese, all say "2 slices" or "1 tbsp" or "1/2 cup." Are you weighing those things in grams? They're all pretty calorie-dense and can add up quickly.
  • Rum and diet ginger ale, maybe with a splash of lime. Also works with vodka. Cruzan Black Strap is my go-to rum, great with just ice.
  • Last year I switched to maintenance for the holidays. This year I'm SO close to my big, 50-pound goal, that I'd like to hit it before Thanksgiving. The treats have already started rolling in to work, so I'm going to have to check in with my determination. :) The holidays can be stressful for a lot of people. Switching to…
  • I agree with Kami's questions. Also, are you *really* hungry, or do you just want to eat (=fake hungry)? For me, if I'm really hungry I'd eat anything (like plain broccoli) but fake hungry is more specific. For the fake hunger, I remember that I was fake hungry when I was big and eating whatever I wanted, too - so I can be…
  • Hi and welcome! It's not about motivation - it's about determination. You have to be determined to stick to a reasonable plan, weigh and log all of your food accurately, and then be patient. Check out the must-read posts:…
  • Crystals are just shiny rocks. They don't have any effect on our spirits, souls, or karmic energy except maybe feeling happy to be wearing something sparkly or cool-looking.
  • Hi and welcome! I'm almost to my 50 pounds goal, and I lost the first 25 with no extra exercise, so it's totally possible. I quit smoking the same way you did, too! Counting calories definitely works, with determination and patience. You will have to choose "not to eat" more often, it's a bummer, but it's really worth it.…
  • This is a great question - first of all, you should measure it in grams, not by cups. Check out this video for why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpHykP6e_Uk&t=111s Kodiak MIX is 190 calories for 53 grams as it's packaged. Anything you add is in addition to that. Adding water will change the weight but not the calories.…
  • You CAN do it, with a reasonable plan, determination, and patience. If you don't have those, you'll continue your cycle. I moaned about my weight for years, then I came on here, read the "read me" posts, and set my plan. I started tracking all of my food, weighed it in grams with a scale, logged everything. I've lost more…
