Don't knock steamed vegetables and chicken. If you can eat it every day, do it. Eventually you might find a way to work in some other proteins, although you can eat very well without any kind of meat (beans are one of the cheapest sources of protein you can buy). You say ..."safe foods are bad for you. Chicken strips =…

OP, like most of us with a lot of weight to lose, the one thing I would caution is not to give up too many things all at once. It becomes a drag trying to overdo it in the attempt to get healthy. Diet soda is probably the least wicked thing you could give up at this point so if you enjoy it, don't worry about that the…

I often just use the food database when tempted, just to see how many calories are in something I'm craving. And then balancing it against how many minutes of exercise I'd need to burn it off. I'm a data nerd, too, so the thought of skewing anything with false data makes the hairs on my arms stand up. But if helps you stay…

Didn't you start another topic about making Chex Mix with real Chex cereal? You've got to be goofing with us. And if you're not, Google is your friend.

Yes, egg sandwiches are winners. I use Arnold's Sandwich thins, scramble an egg and a little hot sauce. A slice of tomato if I have it. Easy, filling meal

There is a Weight Watchers recipe called 'haystacks' that are actually not too nutritionally horrible and are really good, kind of like a no bake cookie. It's just Fiber One cereal and melted chocolate bars (or chocolate chips). Peanut butter really isn't necessary and cuts down on the calories. Based on the size of the…

Done, glad to help

I also vote for Fitness Blender on YouTube. Lots of fantastic workouts and some are pretty short so you can fit them in despite a time crunch.

52 and started getting in shape in January. I downloaded lots of pre-made exercise and weight routines, some I liked, others I didn't, and finally found a good dumbbell workout from FitnessBliss.com. For cardio I do mainly treadmill, but also workouts from JessicaSmithTV (YouTube). I bought a HRM so I know what my heart…

@jenniferinfl I almost bought a banana tree from QVC the other week and wondered if I could leave it outside and bring it in for the winter but they were gone by the time I called. There's a reason, I guess, why you don't see a lot of banana trees in the North East, but man I'd sure like to grow one!

Have been container gardening for years. We have lots of space for actual gardens, but I like deck gardening. Those topsy turvy tomato planters can be used for all kinds of things besides tomatoes, too. did potatoes in a barrel last year and had some success. Make sure your containers are deep enough for whatever you are…

Your profile says you are in Lebanon, PA, which is across the state from me. The weather should improve over the next couple weeks so you can get outside and be more active. Pennsylvania has fantastic state parks so I would encourage you to explore them... hiking is great exercise.

I was a pack-a-day (and more on weekends) smoker for 25 years. I wore the nicotine patch for the first month and then cold turkey. I told myself that if I cheated with even one cigarette, I would start over (keep a calendar or tally of how many days you are smoke-free and put it in plain sight). Have been smoke free since…

Dreamsless, maybe weight loss isn't the real problem. It sounds like depression might be. Is there someone (other than family) you can talk to, like a therapist? From someone who's struggled with her weight her entire life, I know that trying to lose weight for the wrong reason is guaranteed failure. Perhaps try setting…

Shared this one the other day: Crispy Baked Tofu Strips... I love them. You can edit this recipe easily. Very little prep work, too. Use whatever you have on hand as a condiment (my personal favorite is buffalo sauce). http://www.theathletarian.com/2012/03/02/who-likes-chicken-fingers/

I agree. There comes a point when we say 'enough is enough.' The hard part (for me) is remembering it. Good luck!!

I do this with cold oatmeal.. sometimes I put a scoop into a cake ice cream cone (between 15-30 calories depending on the brand) and eat it on my way to work. Portable breakfast that tastes great and is good for me.

YouTube has a lot of home made videos of people demonstrating how to wear an HRM chest strap. how do I know? Because I had the same questions when I got mine and the official Polar website just didn't seem to address them. Worth checking out. The stats you included sound right... I burn about 430 calories in 65 minutes of…

Nordic Track T5.5 owner for about 2 years. Here's the thing... as a newbie treadmill owner, I think I 'overbought' with this model. It came with all these seemingly great pre-programmed workouts, however the salesman didn't point out that nearly all of them are for running! I had no desire to run and still don't at this…

There are such things as small manual treadmills (no motors)... had one several years ago and hated it, however, because it is a beast to walk on (mine was like walking in sand... good workout, but tough). And make sure the neighbors below you aren't going to mind listening to a treadmill motor above them. Was going to…

You love doing it. It raises your heart rate. You feel invigorated. So what's bad about it?? A trainer once told me that half the battle of improving overall health and losing weight is finding an exercise you like doing so you can stick with it for the long haul. For every opinion on the Internet (expert or otherwise)…

I've done both, and did WW for a few years. Lost a lot of weight then gained it back (through no fault of WW). First time using MFP and the thing I really like is that it's plain calorie counting- I went through 2 or 3 different 'points' programs with WW and unless you use/buy their tools, it's difficult to try and figure…

Ditto. I wouldn't quite call it acne, but my skin is definitely more splotchy than it ever was and I get sporadic pimples. But I am still thankfully losing weight on a regular basis, despite being post-menopausal for 2+ years now. Salty stuff brings on the hot flashes so I try to avoid them, which is also good for a…

Isolate why you are bingeing- for me it has nothing to do with regular meal times. Once you figure out the trigger, you'll be able to identify it and hopefully control it.

You're built like a classic woman with a waist that is narrower than your hips and chest. Don't despise the curves, you look positively amazing and I'll bet you have a lot of envious friends.

I personally wouldn't give him a dime of my money after talking to me like that. Lots of ways to get strong that don't require a gym membership.

Not sure what your fitness level is currently, but as someone who started in January using free weights at home (and was very out of shape), I started with 3 lb dumbbells, quickly moved to 5 and am now using 8 lbs and just this morning realized they aren't heavy enough. So it may be a good starter weight, but if you work…

Totally agree. Not only are these cheap, but dried beans and lentils are excellent sources of protein and fiber. Become friends with your spice rack, it will make all the difference in the world to your recipes.

My husband has pretty much learned to fend for himself, although I like to cook and have no problem cooking meat for him. You'll work it out. And keep cereal on hand, it's a great meal you can both agree on. And I agree with others, don't try to change your husband's eating preferences, it'll only end up in an argument.
