Unfortunately, mental illness seems to be at the bottom of the list of health/governmental services. My thinking is that obese people are at the bottom of the list, as they could not physically go out and do a mass shooting. I personally don't get why the obese people's families are contributing to this. Someone mentioned…

For example: Fear of failure is what keeps a lot of people from even trying to lose weight. But that's not really a fear; just an excuse in disguise. (What's the point of trying? It's never going to work, yada yada). Once someone is determined to lose weight, all the fears (disguised as excuses) fly away.

40 pounds in a year is less than a pound a week. This is VERY doable!
-
Even if you don't think you are thirsty, drink the water anyway and it will fill your stomach which takes away the cravings.
-
I try not to bring up my weight loss to others, especially those who are overweight. Nobody notices I've lost weight anyway, hah!
-
I noticed last week that my stomach, which usually poked completely out, now has an indentation at my navel. It's weird to see it. I'm assuming it means that I'm losing weight around my hips?

Three slices of pizza are a lot less calories than three whole cheesecakes. Log it and forget it.

Because every time there are different answers by different people.
-
If you aren't married, then you're simply roommates, so just do what you want to do and eat what you want to eat.
-
Just log it and get over it.
-
Yep. Nobody here can answer this.

I fluctuate about eight ounces for two weeks, then whoosh, lose five pounds. Gain back two, fluctuate about eight ounces for two weeks, then whoosh, lose five pounds. Gain back two. End result is I'm losing over half a pound a week, which is a LOT faster than I gained it, so I'm happy.

What a GREAT analogy!!!
-
Nobody does anything perfectly. But those who strive to do so succeed at a faster rate than those who don't.

When I don't exercise, I don't lose. I'm 5'2, started out at 170, now at 137. There were times I didn't lose a pound and it was always when I stopped exercising for a couple of weeks. Exercising seems to get my metabolism rolling and besides, it makes me feel soooooo much better!!
-
If you increase your caloric intake, you will decrease your caloric deficit and gain weight. One day off a week? Do you log your food on that one day off? You're simply eating more than you think. CICO never fails.

I have protein shakes occasionally when I know I'm going to eat through lunch at a client's because it's less obnoxious than a smelly sandwich or a salad.

Thanks, OP, you are so right. It's funny how people want to lose weight oh, so quickly, but they gained it oh, so slowly! If someone gains an average of five pounds a year, as I did, in 12 years it's "suddenly" 60 pounds gained. Nobody would agree to LOSE only five pounds a year for 12 years, though! (And I wouldn't blame…

You can always save up your exercise and log it on days where you eat too much. Just saying.

This whole thread has me confused. Of course, I'm old . . .

To me, getting right of my fat clothes is a tribute to my commitment to continue losing weight!
-
Hey, as long as we're losing - but this particular method our body has chosen does make it more difficult to stay with the plan!!!
-
I buy my "fat clothes" at GW, but then I give them away to a local church (not mine) that gives a free dinner once a week and has clothes racks for the participants to pick out donated clothes. I have been shopping in my closet, and am almost on the next size range. Then I have plenty of clothes in my storage shed to go…

Where are you? Goodwill in my area never gives a discount for goods donated!
-
That's exactly how my body loses weight. I will hold onto a plateau for four weeks then for another week lose a pound a day. Then it will go back up to a couple of pounds under the plateau, stay there for two or three weeks, then here's comes another whoosh. Drives me nuts.

The hanging skin will eventually go away. Or at least that's what I've heard. And definitely what I hope for!
-
I never eat just before going to the gym. Not even in the morning. But as @Liftng4Lis said, if you haven't already, you do need to up your protein.
-
Exactly!
-
So, are they still working?

My face is the same way. But people who don't notice that I'm losing weight say things like, "Is that new mascara? It really brings out your eyes!" when in fact it's the face fat not covering up my eyes like it used to!
