Looking for friends who gained weight after quitting smoking
I weighed an average of 110 lbs. all my adult life (I'm 5'2") until I quit smoking in 2004, when I gradually started packing on the pounds. Then after yo-yoing, hit a high of 168.8 lbs. With MFP and hard work, I got down to about 138, but now I'm back up to 141 with a renewed determination to keep going until I hit 110.…

Does anyone else here delete their stats?
For example, MFP automatically posts streaks every five days. I think once every 50 days is enough, so I immediately delete the others. Also, when I'm fluctuating in weight, one day it will say I lost .2 or whatever since my last posted weight, then I fluctuate a pound more, and it doesn't say anything, then I get back to…

Tired of mats!
It seems like nearly every class I take at the Y involves kneeling on mats. I can't kneel; it hurts my knees. Yoga, various cardio, even kettlebells involve kneeling! Spinning is the lone exception, and I have an exerbike at home. Just ranting here . . .

Why did I get the following link from MFP?…

Hate the decades!
It seems like I lose weight like crazy from the top of the decade to the bottom, then I stall. I am currently at 140.0. If I can break through to 139.8, the rest of the pounds will drop off until I reach 130.4 or so. This has been the trend throughout my weight loss. Anyone else have this problem? Or is it just lack of…

Little ways people have noticed that I've lost weight . . .
It's funny, because even though I've lost nearly thirty pounds this year, most people don't recognize it. Here is what I've gotten: I LOVE your new foundation; it really brings out your eyes! (I don't have a new foundation.) Your eyelashes are getting so long! Is that because of the drops you're taking for glaucoma? I…

FitBit Zip discrepancies
I posted this in Fitness and Exercise, so here goes where I meant to post it in the first place: I just bought a FitBit a few days ago to use strictly as an pedometer. So far today it's logged just under 15,000 steps. I did two miles on the treadmill, approximately 5,000 steps for me, and walked my dog a mile, maybe 3,000…

FigBig Zip erroneously logging too many steps?
I just bought this a few days ago to use strictly as an pedometer. So far today it's logged just under 15,000 steps. I did two miles on the treadmill, approximately 5,000 steps for me, and walked my dog a mile, maybe 3,000 steps because he wants to stray from the path. I did go to Costco and Walmart and walked quite a bit…

Just curious
Is there a difference between a kcal and a calorie? If so, what? Thanks!

Discrepancy between digital scales and MFP
After not getting below my low weight in May, I finally did this morning and noticed that my scales weigh in 2/10 of an inch, but MFP translates that as two ounces. So when I registered my weight as 142.8 from 143.2, it showed a 10 oz. loss instead of less than a six oz. one. So I re-entered my weight as 143.0 to round up…

Help! How to start a swimming regimen?
I went to the Y today, full of determination to add swimming to my current repertoire of exercises to do on a regular basis. YIKES! I was only in the pool for fifteen minutes. I swam for maybe 20 seconds tops and had to stop to catch my breath. Started to swim another 20 seconds or so, and had to stop to catch my breath,…

Hanging onto treadmills
Several months ago, there was a discussion about hanging onto the treadmill while walking which got quite volatile, but no facts, just opinions. I have since learned this can hurt your back, your posture, and reduce your caloric burn by at least 20%. It can also throw you off balance when you are regularly walking, which…

Thoughts about treadmills?
While I love walking outdoors, there are only a couple of walking trails where I live and they are only half a mile. All roads outside of my small neighborhood (one mile walk with almost no shade) are two-lane highways. So most of my walking is done on the treadmill at the Y. I can watch television, play with the speed and…

A fruit is a fruit is a fruit!
For whatever reason, the forums the past couple of days are contributed by people who either claim they are allergic to fruit or just don't like it. Then they name numerous alternatives to fruit, most of which are (egads!) fruit! Just so you know, the following are actually fruits: Avocado, beans, peapods, corn kernels,…

Gardening
Since late 2005, I have lived in my home where the HOA cuts the grass and rents you the land. However, they are pretty negligent about weed whacking. Sometimes they will pour a bunch of weed-killer around the houses; other times they don't. I was complaining about this to a friend at church, and she said, why don't you…

Fun time at church
I brought my nephew to church for a Boy Scout meeting and had an hour to kill. My original plan was to walk outside, but the wind was whipping around at nearly 20 mph and it was near freezing. So I hid myself in the nursery room and started doing some cardio exercises. Three little girls (sisters of brothers in the Boy…

Weeds
I've been spending money on part-time teenage gardners, weed-killers that work for a day or two, and it finally occurred to me: Why not pull the weeds myself and get some exercise? So I bought some garden gloves, a few weed cutting tools, and have been having a blast. What I can pull, I do, what I can't, I chop. I have a…

Ewwww! Loose skin!
I was up to nearly 170 lbs. when my ideal weight is 110. I'm now 143, and as I was using my mouse, I realized that my arm skin is just hanging down. I haven't lost weight very quickly - only 27 pounds since November, which is less than a pound a week. How could this happen? And what can I do about it other than surgery?

It's almost spring! Will you walk your dog?
My tiny neighborhood has nearly twelve dogs, but they all stay inside. I can hear them barking as I walk my dog. My dog LOVES going for a long walk! We haven't been able to walk in quite a while because of the terrible weather, but spring is a-coming! The entire walk through my neighborhood is one mile, or about 20 minutes…

Walking your dog - if you don't have one, walk your neighbor's dog!
I usually walk my dog a mile in the morning, then another mile in the late evening. Last night, I took my doxie with me to my niece's and nephew's activities at church, and my dog and I walked for an entire hour! Plus another twenty minutes at a park. While at my church, an obese man sat in his car with the air…
