It depends on how many calories you are starting out with. If maintenance, then yes, exercising will cause you to lose weight because it is burning calories. If maintenance + 1,000 calories, then exercising will slow the rate at which you gain.

I absolutely agree!

If you can go to the grocery store, and you have use of a microwave and refrigerator, not to mention food available at the hotel, you should be able to do this with a little creative thinking!

And for that matter, before ADHD and such was discovered.

I'm glad I was born before "gluten-free" was discovered.

I always eat less during the day so that I can "splurge" at night. I can't sleep if I'm hungry.

I know someone with a similar job and he works out all the time but is still about 200 pounds overweight because he eats out all the time. Most hotels provide a continental breakfast and include boiled eggs; eat a couple of those. Since you don't drive, I assume you're flying and once there, can't go grocery shopping.…

Eating out is tough. Restaurants magically add a zillion calories to the simplest of foods. If I'm eating at a national chain, I'll check out their nutrition information first to make an informed choice of what to eat. Local restaurants are tougher, but don't add as many calories as national chains do. For instance, IHOP…

My niece, a vegetarian, is about 250 pounds overweight. One of her favorites is french fries dipped in mayonnaise.
-
My favorite is rye bread.

I don't eat back any of my exercise calories unless I want to justify a treat, which isn't very often. When I do, I stop losing weight.
-
My first (and only) plateua hit when I stopped counting calories and exercising. Go figure! I'm getting back on track now, though.

You don't have to replace it; you can just log it and count it as part of your daily calories. That's the beauty of this program. That said, I have a friend who mixes up a tablespoon of honey with a little cinnamon in hot water and that does it for her. About 65 calories.

I start again in earnest tomorrow. Haven't been here much since before November.

After all my hard work to lose 35 pounds, I lost interest and am in serious jeopardy of gaining it back. Already packed on two or three pounds in less than a month. Haven't been to the Y in nearly three weeks. Baking for the holidays doesn't help. I look at a picture of me at my highest weight and get sickened, but not…

I've gained and lost my determination several times, but overall, I'm still losing albeit slowly overall. I either lose several pounds a month or go a couple of months without losing or even gaining a pound or two. When I first started, I was very determined and didn't quit. Now that I'm looking a lot better (but am still…

Just do it. Drink a lot of water, which takes away the hungry feeling. Exercise, which also takes away the hungry feeling. Eat whatever you like, but keep the portions small. You can do it.

I'll log in about 4,000 calories just to be safe. Thank goodness for the cranberry sauce.

Second.

wonder how long it will take . . .

Same here. It took me nearly 30 pounds before my pants were too big for me, all because of my stomach. So I bought a pair of new pants, size 16. Now, five more pounds later (35 pounds total lost), my new pants are starting to get loose because FINALLY the stomach fat is going down. I'll probably lose a size every five…

I never eat them back.

Oddly, I've never gotten advice from anyone even though everyone knows I've been losing weight. Nobody's even asked me what my secret is. Weird.

Dani, this wonderful flowchart has been copied and pasted so many times that I'm sure nobody knows who the originator is. Thanks for reminding us.

You can either (a) give up on losing weight or (b) just keep on keeping on, counting calories, burning calories, until you get there. Most people choose (a). I hope you don't. I quit smoking, and gained a ton of weight. Quitting smoking was a lot easier as it only took three days to stop the addiction. Losing weight? Very…

You logged for 20 days and lost ten pounds. That is a phenomenal amount of weight - two pounds a week. Then suddenly you stopped losing, and started eating more. You patted yourself on the back for losing ten pounds in two weeks, then decided that if it's that easy, you can do it any time in the future and can put it off…

I don't mind my info being published when it's a REAL weight loss or a significant days milestone, so I don't want to stop all publishing. Wish there was some way to modify them, though.

That's what professional taste testers do to keep from gaining weight.

You went from 186 to 152 in a MONTH??? That's 34 pounds! In a MONTH??? Wow. It's hard to believe that with so much added exercise and just a couple of hundred extra calories a day that you aren't losing. Either your exercise is not burning as many calories as you think or you are eating more than you are admitting to doing…
