I'm leaving. Self-control is a lot easier, less expensive, less time-consuming, and a LOT less painful than surgery, but it's definitely your choice.
-
Actually, you are wrong in your assessment of my knowledge. I have known many people who have done this in their 50s and 60s, and none of them have succeeded. This was unheard of when I was 26. No, it's not easy, having major surgery to force you to curtail eating which is something you can easily build up determination to…

Yes! I can clip my toenails now!

Oh, how I would love to feel cold instead of hot! At least when you're cold you can put on a sweater or coat and/or gloves or wrap a blanket around you. When hot, unless you're inside and can turn the AC down, you can't take clothes off. Well, I guess you could, but you might get arrested or something.

That is so sad. Instant gratification with no accountability. Yikes!!!
-
You are only 26 years old.
-
Huh? I don't know many people from Asia, but I understand in India it's a sign of wealth to be overweight.
-
I feel very sad for you. This surgery is giving you hope eternal, and it's probably not going to happen. Please re-think this. Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is a train.

It takes longer, but is so much more effective to simply curtail calories and increase exercise. I have a friend who did it, and yes, she lost about 50 pounds right away, but has stayed at that weight which is about 150 pounds more than she should weigh. She feels it was a success.

White Castle frozen cheeseburger sliders. Yes, very processed. 300 calories. I love, love, love them, but only treat myself to them once a week or so.

Even at only 20 mph, which is a very low estimate, this is about four miles which would take over an hour. And who would want to work with a hot sweaty person who just walked over an hour to get to work? It takes me 15 minutes to get to one of my client's office ten miles away. That would be 2-1/2 hours of walking for me,…

Use MFP for yourself, not for your son, and you will probably be able to see what is amok.

I tied my shoe the other day and was amazed. It was so natural that I forgot that at one time, I couldn't do it unless I sat down and propped my foot up, so I was truly amazed. I can cross my legs now, although I still can't wrap my ankles. Another 34 pounds to go and I'll be able to do so.

What are you doing that burns 1,500 calories a day?
-
OP, I hadn't noticed that when I glanced at your diary. Wow. 1,500 calories of exercise? And you're eating it all back? I can't even imagine burning 1,500 calories by exercising. That would be equivalent to about five hours of walking. What is your activity level set to?

I gave up on losing weight many times as after three or four weeks, there was no change. Finally, in November of last year, I became determined. It was SIX WEEKS before I started losing the weight!!! Don't give up; if you're truly doing everything right, and it looks like you are, it will happen.

I was at the perfect weight all my life until I quit smoking in 2004. Then I gained about 30 pounds. I lost 17 of them, then moved to another state in 2005 and then immediately gained back all of it back plus another 30 or so pounds. Everyone in my current state says I don't need to lose weight but the one time I went back…

I feel sorry for Sally. You have a husband and a medical career ahead of you, but Sally only has her mother.
-
Eat less than you move. It's that simple. If Paleo encourage you, then by all means do it. Whatever it takes. Just do it and don't stop. If it's something that you consider temporary, re-think it, because changing your diet for life is NOT temporary.

Julie, you need to clean up your friends. There are lots who haven't posted in weeks. Make friends with the people who are already your friends.
-
I know a personal trainer who swears by it, but she already teaches (and participates) in about three classes a day. She would lose weight if she ate nothing but ice cream every day.
-
No, it's because everyone sees me all the time and they don't notice the day to day changes.
-
So do I! High five!!
-
I beg your pardon?
-
That was coincidental. Think of weight loss as a tidal wave. Sometimes a couple of weeks will pass with no weight loss, then whoosh! two or three pounds fall off. Not exercising and eating more calories doesn't do it; continuously sticking with a plan does. You will probably gain back what you lost due to two days without…

Are you walking on the treadmill properly? Are you swinging your arms or holding on for dear life? If you are holding on, this will actually hurt you. Do NOT hold on! Swing your arms for a natural gait. I saw a guy who was nearly leaning backwards while having his incline set to 15, ouch! I reported it to the Y who send…
-
To be honest, I prefer the treadmill to walking outdoors even when the weather is nice, but it rarely is. With treadmills I can adjust my speed, my incline, and get a fairly accurate tracking of how many calories I burned by filling out the "manual" setting. I don't have to worry about growling dogs while at the Y. I can…

Yep, life happens, which is a common reason for gaining weight. I guess life means eating more calories than you burn?

Cycling on the exerbike helps a lot!

I didn't notice until nearly 30 pounds lost, and nobody else did either :(
