Well, I'm still at it and still not losing any weight. I've been less active overall than at other times because I've had a couple of injuries and other issues (my favorite pool closed for long-term repairs, 😭!) Now I'm trying to ramp up the exercise, and the fasting in the morning is getting harder. I'm beginning to think…

@NonnieDoiron : Most MA grocery stores don't sell liquor. You can avoid the ones that do pretty easily. I know that that deviates from the rest of the entire world! Anyway, it sounds like it doesn't bother you. I'm sort of in the middle: sometimes I get tempted by the booze at the store and sometimes not.

This is a good strategy: Keep it out of the house. I poured out the rest of the bottles I bought for the holiday parties.

I've gotten several colds this year and felt pretty crummy off and on. Now, my dentist tells me I have two infected teeth that have to come out. I wonder if that's been part of the problem. (This was part of my excuse for boozing last night, not helpful!) In any case, good health is the greatest blessing of all and I hope…

I'm still proving to myself that I can no longer handle booze. I did a (previously) common Friday night: a pint of double IPA (8% ABV) with dinner and a serving of Irish whiskey on the rocks later (watching the Women BB game, yeah!). Yes, I felt terrible all night and had to take tums and pepto. I just can't handle it…

My April goal isn't so much "less alcohol" as "more fun." Even one drink has been upending my sleep lately. I need to reevaluate why I still continue to want it. My goal is to drink only 4-8 days and to have only 1-2 servings on any day. Nothing after about 8 so it doesn't bother my stomach or sleep. Basically: no more…

March is history! I'm finding my alcohol tolerance is waning as I'm working to reduce my consumption. Last night was a case in point. I split wood for a couple of hours, came in and drank a huge electrolyte drink (plus creatine), then had a strong (8%ABV) 16oz IPA with dinner. I really enjoyed the beer and felt great, but…

Went out for a nice early dinner with friends. Had one cocktail (Manhattan straight up-- delicious!). Went to a show and to bed much later. Still had difficulty sleeping! Can it be that limiting alcohol lowers tolerance that much?

I need to do the sugar detox, too. I'm still doing 16/8, but I tend to hit the sweets between dinner and my 8PM cutoff. It's becoming a habit and it defeats the point of the 16h fast. I had a 20oz excellent lager with a friend on Sat night. Delicious! Then, I got the idea of having some whisky when I got home. Just a short…

What is it with fireball? I’ve heard so many people list it as their guilty pleasure. Also, if you happen on a discarded “nip” bottle on the side of the road, 90% it’s fireball.

Well, after a lot of abstinence, I had a rather boozy weekend. We threw a Saint Patrick’s Day dinner on Sunday, with Guinness and Jameson. Lots of AF choices, too including the AF Guinness. But, Guinness is only a 4% ABF beer, so it’s not so bad. Well, I bought all the beer on Saturday, so I had to try some. I didn’t need…

@tmbg1 : It’s always so frustrating! Lean in. When you eat less than you burn, you WILL lose weight. @SparkSpringtime69 : Welcome! Sober living is good living! @xbowhunter : I’m motivated to drink lightly by digestive issues caused by alcohol. Reflux and the poops are really not fun! @lmlmrn : If you have a bad reaction to…

@I_am_motivated : Wow! That’s ambitious! I join you in several of those, including 16:8. But, I don’t lose weight unless I track. (Turns out, I can eat plenty in 8 hours if I’m not careful.) Your post reminds me to go back to take creatine, which really seemed to help with recovery. Also, I drink tea all day and…

Hi all! I drank on the first two days of the month (on a lovely warm vacation). I plan only to drink (modestly) on St. Pats and on Easter. So, 4 A days total! Score card: A: 2 AF: 1
-
I’m back from vacation, where I drank 2-4 drinks almost every day 🥴. A few days I was able to stick to 2. But, it’s all too easy to suck back those cold beers at the beach! I did not find myself asking for non-A beers, either. Final tally for the month: A: 5 AF: 24 😇

@tmbg1 : Friday drinks are the hardest for me to give up. Followed by Saturday and every other day. 🥴 Another way to put it is if you master Friday night, the others are easier. I’ve stuck to drinking only one night in Feb so far. Now we’re off on a sunny vacation. I plan to not drink for the first few days so I can…

I was forced to give up the red wine a long time ago by lower GI (posted many times— pardon). My wife still loves it. Now, we’re minimizing (not giving up) red meat, which begs for it. Lately, I’ve been making a spicy stir-fry when I want beef. You get lots of beef flavor with less beef. And we’ll serve it with a baked…

Get ready to hit the “hug” button for me! I’ve been trying to shake off asthma symptoms from a prior cold (with meds). Instead, I got a new cold (or perhaps a relapse of the prior one). I made the fateful decision to go to my spin class on Thursday and I feel like that set me back a week: I’ve felt sick ever since and have…

@xbowhunter : no question that boozing it up after a workout probably undermines any benefit. And, I’ve never had a worse hangover than from doing a big workout (Eg, 25mi bike ride in the summer heat), then hit the beers. Feels good going down, but—oh—the next day everything hurts!
-
I don’t get the best workout, but feel the most accomplished if I work out early in the morning. But, I get the best workouts in the afternoon.

I did the planned boozing at our Valentine's dinner on Sat: Two normal 12oz lagers and shared sips of brandy with dessert. Lovely! My wife ordered a fancy mocktail and one glass of wine plus sips of the brandy. I'm proud of her as she hasn't taken on the less-alcohol ever before. That was my first alcohol night of 2024.…

I’m planing for some alcohol on Saturday night at a nice dinner. I’m invited to a superbowl party on Sunday, but it must be AF or I won’t feel good on Monday. Not worth it! (We’ll most certainly leave early.)

@I_am_motivated : don’t feel you must do this alone. Engage professionals as you are able. The road to sobriety is hard, but it is well worn. @xbowhunter : Mel Robbins is a household name in my family! Excellent choice.

I was forced to give up wine a long time ago due to stomach issues. It was really hard! Habits are choices that have become routine. Making a new one takes time. Now beer (particularly strong IPAs) will give me stomach (among other) issues. I had 1-2 beers (and other drinks) most nights of December, for example. I’m dry…

I used to feel that way when the goal was to buy people stuff. Lately, I’ve been pondering the power of love in the bigger sense. The world is badly in need of love today.

I’ve been challenging myself with a number of things lately - AF since 1/1/2024 - 16/8 IF since ~9/1/2023 (aka “skip breakfast, no snacks after dinner”) - Instagram and Facebook apps removed from my phone (since 1/1/2024, both still available via computer) I echo the reports of other members of this group that, despite the…

BP responds to good self-care, which is nice. It’s a good motivator for me. Whelp, I’ve stayed dry for Jan. Some challenging moments over the weekend at a marathon conference. A strong drink would have hit well at the end of those days. And, I had an evening with people who love drinking. All addressed with NA beers and a…

@itladyee : I was skunked from jogging last night by a cold rain. I rode my stationary bike instead. You have to take what life gives you! Pro tip: buy a set of “Yaktrax” if you want to be able to walk on ice. They work! @xbowhunter : my winter substitution for booze is strong herbal tea that I make with chamomile, sage,…

There are reasons to extend your fast to 16h or more. I have definitely had struggles, but I've also experienced some benefits. The promises are lofty: you'll be thinner, smarter, more energetic, and live longer! Check this out: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8754590/ I particularly like this quote: "Fasting…

Don't feel discouraged-- celebrate! You've made a huge accomplishment. Any month that you don't gain it back is a reason for further celebration. Now, I know from personal experience that a plateau is maddening. You don't change anything, but you don't lose weight! Arrgh! But, our bodies are like that, and if you lean in,…
