nikkib0103....I had four kids. They tell me all my grandkids will have 4 legs and a tail. So far...that's pretty accurate.

Happy Dance for you! I love the early morning pool before work. It has been my lifesaver....literally. I was able to get in the pool and start the "road to recovery" without a lot of stress on already over-taxed joints. The first day, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to climb out! And I never thought I would make it down to…

Happy 4th, America! My kids had other plans for the day, so hubby and I bought a couple of very expensive steaks to put on the grill. Son #2 broke down on his way to work this morning needing mom to pick him up and deliver. Now, with no car, he will be coming home for BBQ tonight. And, son's girlfriend, who was planning to…

I was standing in the hall this morning, feet about shoulder width apart. Happened to notice....there was light coming between my thighs! Don't get me wrong, I still have a pair of thunder-thighs, but they don't stick together from knees on up any more. Little happy dance!

Had to bail out on my June goal of working on C25K....arthritic knees and shin splints flared up. Getting old is not for sissies! However, I did make my swim goal of 1 mile continuous in 45 min. Also lost 7 pounds! I am still amazed at the changes. July: 1) Increase daily steps to 15000 and meet goal every day. Just…

I have given away a few items....those that are at least 2 sizes up from where I am now. I understand your reluctance though. I was/am also afraid, with so many yoyo's behind me, but this time it feels different and I am finding the letting go easier. Start small (XLg) and get rid of a few items that you didn't like much…

frogs777 wrote: » I want to up my intake of water. I drink loads of mint tea - sometimes home made - just mint leaves and water - does that count? Absolutely! Even the Mayo Clinic allows almost ALL fluids to be part of your intake....of course some are much better for you than others. Alcohol is the glaring exception, you…

I've been quietly trying to turn my life around for about 2 years. Found and joined MFP at Christmas and have learned to track and get support from others on this site. My NSV this week...no fewer than 6 people, from my neighborhood, church, school and store, have commented on how much weight I have lost and how good I am…

I have outright avoided ALL my reunions, high school and college. Maybe I will look forward to going to the 45th when it comes up! I should be ready by then  I have been hesitant to set goals too far in advance because they seem so unattainable. Meeting small milestones has been very rewarding for me this time…

Oh My!! Laughing but it is pretty scary how Big Brother IS watching!

It took a while for me to realize my latest NSV. I was getting annoyed at how wet my pant legs were getting when we FINALLY broke through winter and started the spring rains. Everyday, it seemed, the bottom of my legs were wet and cold half the morning. I didn't think I was shrinking that much in my old age. Wait! I'm not…

Too true!!! I always loved a little coffee with my creamer. I switched to tea (which I never creamed but did take Southern sweet) Somehow, I can handle no sweet better than no cream. Maybe I'll try the sugar free/fat free.

@lovesretirement I also try to mix things up monthly and stay away from worrying too much about daily fluctuations. I use a VivoFit tracker precisely because it could be worn in the pool (shower, rain). It also reminds me when I have been inactive too long and nags me to meet goal (which adjusts as your activity improves)…

THAT is my pet peeve, thesupremeforce...especially for high schoolers that do all kinds of manipulations to "make weight" for an event!!!!!!!

I realized my pants are all too long. Losing inches off the thighs means the material doesn't have so much to stretch across any more.

Hi Annette! Baby steps! I started my return to exercise by getting back in the pool (Took MEGA amounts of courage to put on a bathing suit in front of my co-workers!!) The first day, I was afraid I wouldn't even be able to climb back out on the ladder much less EVER swim all the way to the other end! But I knew I had to do…

I have stayed on this thread way too long...it is hilarious! Belly laughs are good for the soul!

What did you eat last? Has everything been moving through? What time of the month is it? Stick to your weekly weigh-in. It is less variable then the folly of daily weigh in. If you think you over ate, had a lot of salt, didn't "remove" the digestion left-overs, etc., etc. you can adjust today. But, as long as you see an…

And not to split hairs but even if you managed to consume 7500 calories in one sitting you are still going to burn a couple thousand during the day so make that 9500 calories. Unpossible I believe. [/quote] You are forgetting all that tasty salt....that ought to hold in at least 2 pounds of water. Yes, m'dear, my weight…

I have trained myself to be a morning person. When our HS added a new Fitness Center (which they share with the community for a nominal fee), I was just starting my journey into weight loss and fitness. I went at 5am because no one else was there and I didn't have to feel self-conscious about my abilities. Or lack thereof.…

Hi Beverly, I agree with Sabine_, it is harder to lose as we age. You have taken that monumental first step toward your new life. And no one will tell you it is easy. We are all on this journey to better health. One thing that a MFP friend shared with me was the NSV - Non-Scale Victory! They make wonderful opportunities to…

When I had the chance, I also read up on the latest information and agree with kheinl; it counts. Good to know since I am behind the times and was still concerned with the diuretic effects of caffeine....guess that doesn't outweigh the benefits of putting the fluid in. I tend to load up on coffee in the morning, and now I…

I still haven't figured out the HRM....I got the Vivofit for Christmas, just purchased the HRM. I have read several discussions of problems syncing or doubling the calorie burn but have not sorted through it all yet. If you find some good, clear info, share please.

How far northeast? North of Ottawa? I was born and raised in Toronto by Newfoundland parents. Once a Newfie, always a Newfie ... and I spent enough time to love the "Rock" and its culture. However, I transplanted to the US and married a southern boy. We took our kids on a road trip over the course of 2 summers...took the…

WhooHoo! Just put on a pair of jeans that I was not able to get over my thighs in November!! I am sticking to the once-a-month weigh and measure I decided on when I started this journey but that is proof that things are looking better! Because I want this to be a lifestyle change, and not a diet, I am trying to build new…

Lucky Grandma! My kids have informed me that all my "grand-kids" will have 4 legs and a tail. I guess we have time...I was rather a late-bloomer myself :) Hope you enjoyed those cuddles!! I will try to remember to bring "my" snacks next time. Or pick up something locally .... she at least lives in an area with a Wal-Mart…

Not sure how I missed this thread before....didn't realize how many of us are in our local school districts! Another "small world" moment. I am slowly making changes to improve my diet but I am not yet able to turn down the treats and snacks that are rampant in school! It is getting better but diet has not been my focus…

I would love to visit Disneyland someday. Have been to CA 2x for meetings but didn't get much exploring done.
