  • Yep same. I’m 50 and my favorite “mom” stores haves sizes that run larger and styles are looser (like J.Jill). But it’s hard to find age appropriate and work appropriate at Forever 21. For those of you in the same boat, though, H&M has more grown up styles for business casual. Right now I can wear a size 4 petite at 5’3”…
  • Name: Elaine How long in maintenance: Since October 2018 Goal maintenance range: 128-134 Current weight: 137.5 Current goal: Reach my goal range before my birthday on September 19th, which is about one pound a week. Recent success: This was my first five day week with my lunch salads! I lost 1.5 pounds this week. Strategy…
  • Please do not apologize for celebrating your successes! The purpose of these discussions is to help each other stay on track and stay encouraged. One way is to share our struggles, but another important way is to share our celebrations. So thank you very much for sharing! And good timing because this is exactly what I was…
  • Yes I’ve thought that a lot too. I don’t know what the clear answer is for me ultimately. But for now, I’m accepting the fact that it’s easier to not eat the snacks at all than to try good old moderation. On Friday I had a training with an INSANE spread of bagels, chocolate, doughnuts, fruit. I could have done some portion…

  • My husband is not toned by he is very thin. We were both thin in college and then I gained a lot of weight over the years. And my teenaged daughter is tiny. Even the dog is thin! All three of them eat as much as they want. I don’t like how I look in family pictures when I’m overweight. And clothes! Being able to wear a…
  • Thanks to both of you for the helpful advice. Yes I agree. I think I’ll just give myself a little bit more of a range to 128-135, only because 135 is the cutoff before my next BMI level. And Happy Scale does help me to see general trends for the long view. 1. My doctor is happy with my current weight, and simply told me to…
  • Wow we’re pretty closely matched! I gained six pounds in 16 days of not weighing myself! It has never worked for me to ignore the scale. I have plenty of stretch in my clothes and a large capacity for denial so it doesn’t work for me to see how my clothes fit. In the past when I got up to 158 pounds I actually stopped…
  • I love this! That’s pretty much my latest “ah-ha”. I recently let my weight creep back up to seven pounds over my maintenance range. But now I’m losing again by re-committing to the same old healthy habits. I’m learning that I need to weigh in at least once a week and log daily.
  • Ok thanks for clarifying! I do better with three meals a day plus one snack but know lots of people who do well with fasting. I’m glad you’ve found something that works well for you!
  • And my daughter who is very thin is now working at an ice cream shop! 😂 I thought it would help that she and her dad both like my least favorite flavor vanilla but apparently not. I’m still getting caught up in “life’s not fair” which is completely irrational. I had my daughter’s high matabolism too at her age. And my…
  • Baconslave. What is 4:3 ADF? And what is IF? Thanks! My husband has learned to not get involved with my dieting efforts. I get very sensitive about it because he’s never been overweight. In fact right now he needs to gain weight for health reasons so he’s eating a lot of ice cream. And strangely I never made that…
  • Ok some people did tell me this but not nearly enough: maintaining a healthy weight takes just as much time and commitment as losing weight. All the things I did to lose weight are still the things I need to keep on doing regardless of my current weight. FOR LIFE.
  • Nijntje. I am a teacher so I’ve also had not much structure while on summer break. So going back to work this Thursday will definitely help. I’m really good at packing healthy lunch salads for work. My school also has lots of candy and treats in the teachers lounge and meetings but I’ve learned to say no to all of it. Oh…
  • So glad I found this thread! I am grateful that at least I’m still within my normal BMI, but I was definitely trending upward and falling back on my habit of emotional eating. I will check in at least every Sunday. Name: Elaine How long in maintenance: Since October 2018 Goal maintenance range: 128-134 Current weight: 139…
  • Not weird. Very good! Google “the stand sit test”. I don’t know your age, but the ability to stand up easily, especially from the floor, is a predictor of longevity.
  • I know this is an old thread but just in case anyone’s still checking in here . . . I got down to 133 pounds. I’m 5’3” so that was a BMI of 23 and a loss of 25 pounds. I decided my maintenance should be 128-133 and stayed within that range for almost six months. Then had some major stressful events and went up to 140.5 in…
  • I just went to my first Al Anon meeting on June 4th. It has helped tremendously. I go to meetings at least once a week. If you all are still looking at this thread then I’d love to talk about how Al Anon relates to recovering from emotional eating.
  • I’m 5’3” and I agree my size changes a lot with small changes in weight. But on the other hand, most of my clothes have generous elastic/stretch. This means I can be in denial about weight gain when I can still squeeze into my clothes. I’m 50 years old and a mom/teacher. So partly it’s current fashions and partly the style…
  • Talked to my doctor at my annual physical. Cholesterol numbers are good. A1C has crept up a bit from 5.3 to 5.7 in the past year. But I’m still calling this as a NSV because of the conversation with my doctor. Me: What can I do about my A1C? Doctor: Have you lost weight? Are you eating a balanced diet? Are you exercising?…
  • Hi! I’m a teacher so Augustis a good time to reflect. July 31 weight: 140.5 June 30 weight: 135 Challenge: I’ve gained 5.5 pounds in one month and trending up since late April after maintaining for over six months. Usual reasons: not weighing in, not logging food, and emotional eating (mostly my frenemies Ben and Jerry).…

  • Has anybody else been asked if their weight loss is because of illness? I felt sort of hurt, but then remembered that the person asking me is a cancer survivor so I know the question was one of compassion.
  • Went to the eye doctor and told him about my family history of type 2 diabetes. He said, “Well, at least you’re skinny. That helps a lot.” I told him that was the main reason I had lost 30 pounds, to prevent diabetes! I just can’t believe a doctor said I was skinny in such a matter-of-fact way.
