All of you are so amazing and such a great inspiration! I wish I had joined MyFitnessPal earlier in my journey because this community has been just wonderful! I started low carb a week before Valentine's Day last year and lost about 50 pounds in 6 months. I then kind of maintained for a while until I was ready to take off…

I don't know if I'd consider myself a success story yet, I still have a little ways to go, but I've been doing Atkins for over a year now. Its been great, I've lost 60 pounds and been able to keep it off. Another long term Atkins success story (13 years and counting) is SugarFreeSheila. She has a great website if you're…

I wonder which one works better for baking, the Splenda or the powdered Stevia? Has anyone used both?
-
My husband has the same issue with Stevia, but I have a friend at work that absolutely loves it. I've been eating low carb for about a year and I've noticed my tastes starting to change, even Splenda can be a little too sweet sometimes!

Hi! I lost my post baby weight by eating low carb, but you are right on track with eating at a calorie deficit and all of those exercises are great. I had 2 c - sections and had to ease into exercising, just now starting to get into running. Feel free to add me!

Today I am grateful for reconnecting with an old friend and my fireplace!
-
Congrats on the 24 pound loss that is fantastic! I follow Atkins (I don't think I could give up my fat) but whatever you're doing its clearly working, so keep it up!

I did read parts of the Eat to Live book and its definitely a way of eating that takes some commitment. You have to eat a ton of vegetables of different varieties to ensure you're getting all the vitamins and minerals you need. I don't think I could physically eat so many vegetables in one day (or afford so much organic…

Lol, yes to the vegan posters! She wants to eat vegan for all the proclaimed health benefits but has difficulty giving up meat. She'll do good for a couple of weeks and then cave and have a burger.

Oh my goodness you guys I just came across this article in Time magazine that speaks to this! http://time.com/3636690/glycemic-index-heart-health-low-carb/

I keep a pair of 5 pound weights under my desk and do arm exercises every hour or so. It helps to break up the day!

My friend at work is an aspiring vegan and she highly recommends the book Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. We make for an odd pair because I follow the Atkins lifestyle and was reading The Vegetarian Myth by Lierre Keith at the same time she was reading Eat to Live, lol. Both great books and both authors advocate for less…

Welcome! I'm doing Atkins too and love it! The main advantage I've found with MyFitness Pal is the community support. It helps keep me motivated and every day I'm learning something new about health and wellness and getting a new recipe to try!

I lost my first 25 pounds in 2 months without any exercise. I really focused on getting my food right and finding the low carb meals that worked best for me. I then started walking 15 minutes a day around the office (I have a computer job as well) and then gradually increased to 30 - 45 minutes a day 5 days a week. I try…

So, I do have high carb days where I don't pay attention to my net carbs at all. I'll eat a bagel with butter, real pizza, or ice cream. I don't have these days often and when I do I pay for it the next day, but I don't let it throw me off track. When I was losing the bulk of my weight though I had very few if any high…

I've been really into Tuna Salad over Romaine with some crumbled Beanito chips to give it a little crunch. I found them in the gluten free aisle so good!

I am going to highly recommend taking a multi vitamin and then to answer your question, for me it didn't matter where the 20 Net Carbs came from. I still lost weight regardless of whether I got my 20 Net from veggies or McDonalds chicken nuggets. So long as I was under 20 I lost. HOWEVER, over time I've noticed that I'm…

As far as motivation goes, it comes down to how much you really want to look good in that bathing suit vs having the high calorie foods. You need to want one more than the other. I've definitely had my days where I've chosen the pizza and ice cream over losing weight and regretted it the next day. But what I've learned is…

I think you're on the right track with lowering your calories to 1200 and then when you're able to exercise more you could try going back to 1500. I lost a considerable amount of weight by eating low carb and noticed that the less I weighed the smaller my portions had to be in order for me to keep losing. I just wasn't…

You're doing great! One day at a time and tomorrow's a new day!

Another great resource is www.SugarFreeSheila.com, 13 year Atkins success story, so yes it can be done and done well. I used to think low carb meant no carb but that is not the case. You're supposed to gradually add carbs back in until you've found your maintenance amount and that can range anywhere between 50 and 120 Net…

Very normal to have a big loss in the first week, I think I lost 7 or 9 pounds when I first started. I agree with annieboomboom its best to focus on finding your go-to low carb meals and reading about the science behind low carb (fascinating). Although I did check in with the scale after a couple of days of trying a new…

Some days are just McDonalds kind of days. Chicken nuggets are my personal favorite! I've noticed the longer I eat low carb I'm starting to naturally move away from processed foods. They just don't taste as good anymore. I still rely on Atkins meal bars (I think of them as my low carb training wheels) but I know some day I…

I found great success counting carbs, and I agree calories do count, I just never counted them. I aim for 20 - 25 Net Carbs a day and eat mostly low carb veggies, meat, eggs, cheese, and nuts. The one gripe I have with Atkins is that they don't make it clear that they're banking on the fact that foods like veggies, meat,…

OP I totally get what you mean. I carry ice water and a bag of almonds around with me as my weapon of choice. I follow a low carb lifestyle so I have to eat things like berries and granola in moderation whereas my kids could eat them all day if they wanted to. I have to be especially vigilant on the weekends, and for me…

When I first started I aimed for 20 - 25 Net and now I'm around 35 - 40 Net.

Imagine me meekly raising my hand at the back of the classroom and saying quietly, "I'm an Atkins success story." I started Atkins back in February 2014 and lost 50 pounds in the first 6 months. I maintained my weight loss for 5 months and I’m now ready to lose the last 20 pounds. I joined MyFitnessPal for the added…

I have a desk job as well, my cube is actually right next to a call center and it seems like bagels, donuts, and pizza are always around. I bring Habanero BBQ Almonds, cheddar cheese sticks, and peanut butter to work in case I need a snack. I've found these foods keep me fuller longer between meals and because they taste…

Yeah, babies did me in too, after my second I was 192 pounds and I'm only 5'2". Initially I didn't exercise at all and just focused on getting the food right. Low carb was totally foreign to me and it took me a while to figure out my go-to low carb meals. I think if I had tried to overhaul my exercise at the same time it…
