  • I transitioned to a low carb lifestyle a little over a year ago. I used the Atkins program as a guide, and it helped me lose over 60 pounds and actually keep it off. I am now in the pre-maintenance phase. My diary is public so you can see what that looks like for me. I eat a lot of dark chocolate, greek yogurt, berries,…
  • Love this Dan! I've been experimenting with fat bombs and its been so much fun!
  • I second Ruskinbarb's advice on the sugar free candy. Dessert is always the hardest for me, so when I'm going out I bring a couple squares of 90% Lindt Dark Chocolate or a few Atkins Endulge Carmel Squares. It makes passing on the dessert so much easier when I have an alternative!
  • A great website about this is www.nobunplease.com He has some of my favorite recipes too!
  • Hi there! I lost my weight doing Atkins and never had a problem with artificial sweeteners preventing ketosis. I still have 1 packet of Splenda with my greek yogurt each morning. If that's my one vice I'll keep it :)
  • Oh, and a good low carb recipe that he might like since he enjoys fried foods is French Onion chicken. So simple: dip the chicken breasts in some egg yolk, and then instead of flour/breading use crumbled French Fried onions and bake. I swear it takes just like fried chicken and it is my favorite low carb staple!
  • Hi Sweets! When I switched to a low carb lifestyle one of the things I didn't think about was the impact it was going to have on my friends, family, coworkers, and most importantly my spouse. He ended up feeling a little abandoned. Overeating on the weekends was our thing, he looked forward to it all week and suddenly I…
  • You look amazing both before and after! Congrats on the 30lb loss!
  • My diary is public and I usually eat around 1200 per day, feel free to add me!
  • Weight Loss: 62lbs Method: Atkins
  • We give our kids Nordic Naturals Arctic Cod Liver Oil in the orange flavor. The trick is to not mention Cod, Liver, or Oil to them ;). Although my kids are 3 and 1 so I can still get away with stuff like that.

  • I guess I can't be to hard on them, I had some pretty deep misconceptions about low carb before I really looked into it. I thought Atkins was all bacon and cheese and was surprised to find out it's a high vegetable, high fat, moderate protein way of eating. Goat recommended the book The Calorie Myth by Jonathan Bailor and…
  • I'm 5'2 as well with a small frame. I'm currently 130 pounds (was 192). I was aiming for a goal weight of 112 - 115 but my body seems to want to chill out at 130. If I could get to 125 I'd be stoked!
  • Have you guys seen the latest in Consumer Reports? I just, argh, have to look away: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/02/surprising-effects-of-high-protein-low-carb-diet/index.htm
  • Hi there OP! When I first started on low carb I substituted bread with Romaine Lettuce, Kale, or Spinach. I basically turned all my sandwiches into salads and didn't miss the bread nearly as much as I thought I would. I'm closer to my maintenance lifestyle now so I've added more carbs back in. My favorite bread is When…
  • I've had issues with acne my whole life (had to go on Acutane twice, I don't even want to think about all the damage that did to me internally). But I've noticed eating whole foods has really helped and I've been taking better care of my skin in general. Although I still look like a vampire because I live in Maine ;)

  • Oh boy, I wish I had seen that thread (been up visiting the in-laws all day so haven't been able to check in). I lost my 60 pounds doing Atkins and I usually try to send a friend request/private message people looking for advice about the program. I'm usually very hesitant to respond in the actual thread. There is so much…
  • Welcome and congratulations on your amazing transformation! I'm working on the last few pounds and it has been hard because I love my maintenance lifestyle so much (I maintained for 5 months after my initial 50 pound loss). The hardest parts of this journey have been starting, keeping going after losing some weight and…
  • Welcome! I still drink diet soda, especially when I go out to eat, and I usually have a glass with my afternoon snack when I get home from work. It's a small vice but I haven't noticed any impact to my weight loss.
  • Yeah, the Keto pizza has been my favorite low carb recipe so far. Here are some chip recipes in case you ever need something a little salty to go with the pizza! Homemade Tortilla Chips Ingredients 2 Low Carb Tortilla Wraps Olive Oil Spray Sea Salt Directions Cut tortilla wraps into chip size pieces. Spray a cookie sheet…
  • I've been thinking about this a lot too. When people ask me what I'm doing and I tell them I switched to a low carb/low sugar lifestyle I get nods of approval, but when I say I'm doing Atkins I get a hour long lecture about how I'm ruining my kidneys and going to die of a heart attack. There is so much misinformation out…
  • Goat this is the best thread ever! It should be put at the very top of the Launch Pad! I've been trying to wrap my head around the calorie conundrum ever since joining MyFitnessPal. Up until this point I hadn't been paying attention to calories and still lost a significant amount of weight but I couldn't really articulate…
  • I've recently started eating Greek Yogurt with frozen raspberries and walnuts. It keeps me full for a long time and is really rich so it feels like a treat. Also can't go wrong with Lindt's 90% Dark Chocolate, although I will confess I eat that all month long :)
  • My second favorite is Keto pizza, I found this recipe late in the game on nobunplease.com and so wish I had known about it when I was first starting out! Pizza is my all time favorite and this is a very easy and great tasting substitute! Ingredients: Shredded Mozzarella Cheese 1 Egg Pinch of Basil Pinch of Garlic Powder…
  • My favorite dinner that has stood the test of time is French Onion Chicken. I count it as 3 Net Carbs per Chicken Breast. Ingredients: 3 Chicken Breasts 1 Egg French’s French Fried Onions Directions: 1. Pre heat oven to 375 degrees 2. Take 1/2 cup of French’s French Fried Onions, pour onto a plate, and crush with the back…
  • I like Simply Jiff Peanut Butter because it's not oily and has slightly less sugar/carbs that the original. Oh, and just the other day I saw in someone's diary a really good breakfast idea: chobani yogurt with frozen berries and some chopped walnuts. I'll be trying that this weekend!
  • Hi! I've been doing low carb for a while and I've found the most common pitfalls are portion sizes being too big (yes I'm a low carber that believes calories do count) and not eating enough fat. I've also found too much of the following foods can cause stalls: cheese, heavy cream, nuts, and avocado. Everyone is a little…
  • The peanut butter cookies are my favorite!
  • Spaghetti squash with lots of butter!
  • I try to only eat when I'm hungry so some days I'll end up eating back my exercise calories and other days I don't. I wouldn't stress too much about having to eat an hour after working out. There's so much conflicting information out there about this, so I would suggest just listening to your body and if you're hungry…
