I'm 49 and LOVED kickboxing. It's no longer offered at my gym but I loved it while I was there. I now have gotten my Zumba license and will become my gym's instructor next month. I also weight train 3-4 days a week. I have learned my age is just a number. By the way, I'm a year and a half into my fitness journey and have…

When the scale hit 208 and my age crowded 49 I decided I would not be the fat, depressed, middle age bag. I walked into the gym in January 2014 in tears and now I walk through the door 55 pounds down ripping the weights and wearing a size 6 jean.

Talk to the gym management. There is a ZERO tolerance of that at my gym.

Totally eat what I want. 55 pounds down!

49 years young here

I had one of those "snap out of it moments" myself. Sounds like you have made up your mind. Way to go! Keep it up. You have conquered the hardest part--yourself!

First of all, insulin is your lifeblood! You must have it to feed your body. No insulin means your body is cannibalizing itself for food. My son is a Type 1 and his "skinniness" is because his body is literally eating his muscle because it can't get the food it needs from the insulin. No insulin is literally killing you. I…

Don't look at it as "I'm doing mfp" look at it as "I'm creating lasting lifestyle changes." MFP is just a tool to make the process easier. At first it does look like Mt Everest, but I PROMISE it gets easier. And yes, I will friend you.

OK--after I had lost 50 pounds I found myself "tucking" my underwear into my pants. Needless to say, I had to buy new several sizes smaller! I can only imagine the look of bunching on my butt :s

I started my journey with a trainer 3x a week. A year and a half later I work with my trainer 3-4 times a month for new routines and to make sure my form is good. I am down 53 pounds and six sizes. For me, it was the push and encouragement I needed. In that time I have researched the Internet and have read a couple of…

I've had issues the last three days.

I would love to be a part of this team!

I love that! And yes! They are getting more proportional as I shape the rest of my body through weight training!

It IS a long process. I am down 53 pounds since last January. Been maintaining since February. Probably need to lose 10 more but ok with where I am right now. Will tackle the next 10 when my mind can focus more. Every victory counts. Even at 53 pounds down, I still don't see a "skinny" me. What I do see is a healthier me.…

Yes! I feel much better! I want to stay on top of things so all the internal changes won't be such a shock to the system. I know those changes can be difficult, I just don't want to make them any harder.

I changed my lifestyle habits 18 months ago. I am down 53 pounds and countless inches. Dropped from size 16/18 to 6/8. This part has been the easy stuff. It's all the other changes that are driving me nuts. Scheduling a dr appt for hormone levels and all that jazz.

Oh so NOT silly! I too am a more mature person in my gym and I love the squat rack and free weights! I RARELY do cardio except for Zumba a couple of times a week because I love it. I love the way my body is shaping up. I get many comments on how toned and built I am looking. Not bad for 49 if you ask me!

I am 53 pounds down and have lost 6 pant sizes ( from 18 to 6). The only people who really notice are my trainers at the gym. My day to day peeps have never said a word. Even my husband rarely comments. Discouraging, but at the same time I FEEL BETTER ABOUT MYSELF! Sometimes you have to be your best cheerleader.

I am 49 and beginning to realize I am no longer 30. It sucks! But at the same time, I am healthier now than I was then. Strength training has been a lifesaver for me in reshaping my body. I too am not sure how I REALLY look. I don't think anybody does. After losing 53 pounds, I still see the fat. All I can do is trust…

Logging and blogging sure beats jogging. Though a drag And such a bore It keeps my weight from becoming more

Hang in there. Don't compare your success with that of others. I'm 5'4" and weigh in at 155-157. I weight train 3x a week and Zumba 2x a week. My jean size is 6/8 so I know I'm carrying more muscle. My goal is to continue lowering body fat percentage. I bagan a year ago at 198 with 50% body fat and now I'm at 36%. Would…

I bought the book through my kindle app from Amazon. You can get used hard copies from there as well

I follow the New Rules of Lifting for Women as well, but I have been strength training for over a year. If you are just starting, begin with body weight exercises like squats, pushups (I started those on the wall), lunges, etc. When you do move to actual weights it is imperative to learn good form! Bad form will cause…

My weight training lasts from 30 min to an hour depending on the workout. I really like the book NEW RULES FOR LIFTING FOR WOMEN. Workouts are intense but SHORT. More bang for the buck!

I've been in maintenance for about three months. I am actually over what my original goal weight was but I am not losing weight but losing body fat and gaining muscle mass. I still have to hold myself accountable and track on a daily basis. I weigh about once a week but not for the actual weight, I track body fat and…

Congratulations on our loss! You are wise in planning your meals and snacks. Just because you enter maintenance, that does not mean it is any less work. Trust me! As soon as you quit being conscious of your food, it is easy to gain it back--been there, done that! Keep up the good work!

I am 5'4" and weigh 155. My calorie target for a non-workout day is around 1800. On workout days it can increase to about 2200-2400 depending on the intensity. I normally weight train 3x/week and do zumba twice a week. My weight has not changed much in the last three months so I know my body is building more muscle and…

5'4" and at 155. I am 49 YO and am working on reducing body fat through weight training. I have lost 52 pounds in the last 15 months. I can't seem to get below 155 even with weight training 3x/week and 2 sessions of zumba. I wear a size 8 jean (5 sizes down) so I feel I have the right proportions for my height at this…
