  • It wasn't a texture issue for so much as it was the taste. My favorites are Fage with raspberry, Fage with cherry, and Chobani pineapple. Other than that, I'm really not a Greek yogurt fan. I've read some of the "Eat This, Not That" books and they suggested the Fage because it has less sugar than others.
  • I do the same thing. I get to work pretty early, so I "inventory" my breakfast, lunch and snacks and put those calories in before I eat them. If I know what dinner is that night, I usually add it then, too.
  • This must be where Texas got the ideas for stupid blue laws. Growing up in the late 70's, you couldn't buy pantyhose on Sundays. Malls were closed on Sundays. Car dealerships have to be closed one day a week. You can't buy liquor (excluding beer/wine) after 9 p.m. or on Sundays. Beer & wine can't be sold before noon on…
  • I have had more success through MFP than I have with other programs. I enjoyed WW, but I find this way of doing things to be easier to understand. With WW, I wasn't really learning the importance of what made up those points. In the long run, though, whatever program you choose needs to be something you can turn into a…
  • Yes, I always wear my helmet. I ride in my neighborhood and on trails in my community but I think it is necessary. I don't trust other drivers, or myself going downhill.
  • That woman is bilingual...she speaks English and ignorance.
  • I liked WW but it it only worked for me for a while, usually because I didn't follow through with exercise. But I, too, learned that the points didn't tell me enough about what is in my foods. I watch calories and fat, but I'm also watching protein, sodium and fiber. Welcome to MFP!
  • I started slow and am finally getting out of my "if something happens I can walk the bike home" comfort zone. I'm fortunate to have a park in my neighborhood, and my community has a bunch of hike/bike paths. I won't ride in the street with traffic - personal preference. I love to ride - it's cooler than walking (in Texas -…
  • I think the mental battle is harder than the physical/food battles we fight to get healthier. We find it hard to see our progress. The only advice I can give you is to keep up your strength training. My trainer and doctor say it is so important. Be kinder to yourself. You look awesome. You've come a long way.
  • Girlfriend, you are a ROCK STAR! Keep kicking *kitten* and taking names.
  • So excited to be sharing this journey with you! You look amazing and your hard work is paying off.
  • Good for you for making changes that impact you and will have a long-term great effect on your family! Congratulations on your success so far, and can't wait to hear how this goes. And, just for the record, I would have been completely irritated, too.
  • Okay, no one told me about the fairy dust. I need to know where to get it. Is it on the shelf next to the Sensa? ;-)
  • People don't know how to react when you tell them you aren't on a diet, yet you've lost 80+ lbs. It's a simple equation. Less input + more output = less of me. I don't eat ice cream every day, but I do enjoy an occasional cupcake.
  • Absolutely anything that you would cook with ground beef works with turkey. Turkey burgers and meatloaf require more seasoning. We've used it for tacos, spaghetti, lasagna, meatballs, chili, burgers, stroganoff.....
  • I can't remember the first concert - it was most likely country music as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Last concert: Kenny Loggins. Don't judge. I'm a child of the 80's.
  • My parents ate healthy well-balanced meals. Soft drinks and Kool-aid were rare at home. Sweets? Nope. My parents are also both big veggie fans and I never was. So I had the best examples in the world. But when I got to high school, I was 5'6" and 150 lbs. Not fat, but not thin by high school standards. My dad started in on…
  • If we're going to take programs off the air for "the good" of us, that's not where I'd start. It's just a show. Just like watching any of the cooking shows on tv. I know that I can't cook all of Giada's recipes on a regular basis, or Barefoot Contessa's - purely entertainment.
  • This! I would love to ride my bike after work, but when you have asthma and it's 110 at 7 pm, you play inside. When it cools off, you play outside. North Texas (or most anywhere in Texas) sucks in July and August.
  • No, never wanna give up but sometimes we need to remember why we're here and this - this is why we're here. Thanks for posting!
  • We all get frustrated when it doesn't go quickly. I was averaging 10 lbs per month for the first 6 months and now it has slowed to a crawl for me. Does it drive me crazy? YES!!! But I also know that this is the rest of my life. There's no magic number or weight or event....just gotta get it done. Be patient. There are any…
  • While I think WW has its merits, it wasn't the best option for me. Telling me that I can have x points per day is nice, but it didn't help me understand just what was in those points. I like knowing that the foods I'm eating are the right mix. Welcome and good luck!
  • Glad you are enjoying it. It makes this lifestyle change so simple.
  • Yes, it becomes part of your daily routine. You'll find yourself checking to see the nutritional value of a food before you eat it to see if it's worth it. It took me about a week and I haven't looked back. Feel free to add me.
  • I gave up donuts. I used to eat donuts or donut holes every day for breakfast. It's been almost a year but oh so worth it. When I ride my bike to the gym, I go right past the donut place and all I can smell is the stale grease. That helps. Other than that, no. I just learned how to say/live/understand moderation!
  • This is me! I complain while I'm doing it, but the results speak for themselves. I recently bought a bicycle and am actually enjoying that. If you like to dance, definitely try Zumba and don't give a second thought to how you look or if your moves are right. Mine never are, but it's a great workout and it's fun.
  • ZZ Top, .38 Special, Bon Jovi, Starship, Little River Band, Rick Springfield, War, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Kenny Loggins (and he was recent!), Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Alabama, Jo Dee Messina, Brooks and Dunn, Clint Black, John Conlee, Neal McCoy, Willie Nelson, Steve Wariner, Hank Williams Jr., George Strait.....There are…
  • You can, but it likely won't result in permanent weight loss and you really won't be any healthier. I don't skip out on my favorites; I just don't eat them every day like I used to.
  • This is what I try to do, too. I'm working with a trainer and he doesn't want me in the gym more than 4x a week - wants me to build this into a sustainable lifestyle. But on those days I'm not "working out" I try to find some type of activity to get me off the couch.
