I started with a relatively inexpensive HRM that is only a wrist unit - I purchased it at Academy. You have to actually put your fingers on it to get your pulse. But I have now upgraded to a Polar FT7. I started with the FT4 but for oh so many reasons it didn't work out for me. The biggest advantage (in my opinion) for the…

Truer words were never spoken! The changes you make now are for the rest of your life. Start small. Make the easiest changes first. For me, that was dropping my daily diet soda habit. Then I dropped fast food. It's a few pieces here and there until you get it. Want motivation and accountability? Add me. You can do this.…

Better input/less input; more output. That's how I'm doing this.

I don't have cheat days because it is a quick slide into bad habits for me. I am also a fan of "everything in moderation" so that is what I practice. Last Saturday, I worked my *kitten* off at the gym so I could enjoy a cupcake on Saturday afternoon. In order for this to truly become a lifestyle for me, I have to make my…

Yes, you can drink too much water but you have to drink a lot to get there. Depending on who you listen to as your expert, you either need 8-10 glasses (8 ozs each) each day, or you need 1 oz for every 2 lbs you weigh. So, if you weigh 150 lbs, you would need 75 ozs of water.

I'm down 79 lbs but still have over 100 to go. Let me know how I can help and support any of you.

I'm not sure what the other commenter saw with respect to your sodium but it seems to be within a reasonable range. You are also getting good protein, so that's likely not the issue. You may want to address your sugar, though - that seems to be over every day. I realize that some of it comes from fresh stuff, but there is…

Congratulations! I know that's a tough vice to give up, but oh so worth it.

I'm down 77 lbs and about 5 sizes, depending on store and brand.

Congratulations! Your hard work has paid off and it shows!! Thanks for inspiring others!

For better or worse, I work with a trainer three times a week and those sessions are pre-paid. Unless I cancel 24 hours in advance, I lose the session. That's my motivation when dealing with ugly PMS.

It's great when a restaurant has a nutrition guide - most of the national chains do. But when they don't (like my favorite neighborhood dives), I just have to do my best to "guesstimate." For example, love the steamed chicken dumplings at my local Chinese food place, but they don't have their info available. So, I use the…

Congratulations on your success and taking your life back. I'm on the same path now and hoping my husband will join me.

Always go with the HRM - it knows every beat of the heart and the duration of that rate. Nice ride, though!

The numbers on the scale are only part of the equation. While we all like to see those numbers drop, there are other ways to see your progress. Did you take any starting measurements? If not, it's not too late to do it. Until the last two months, I averaged 10 lb losses each month, but it has started slowing down. But the…

When I get on the floor to do planks, one dog hides under the bed and the other licks my nose. They think they're helping!

I weigh daily, but that is my reality check. For example, I was down on Saturday and again on Sunday; both of those were recorded. Today, though, I'm up 1 lb but didn't record it because it will be gone in a day or two. I record new low numbers, and only record higher numbers if they stay with me for more than a week. In…

Love this!

How long have you been on MFP? Approx. 240 days (started 8/1/11) How many calories a day do you eat without exercise calories? 1500 Do you eat your exercise calories? Generally, no. I workout 3-4 times a week and prefer not to eat them (but enjoy the safety net they provide). If I do eat them, it's on a weekend.

Okay, I'm late getting to this party but let me add my two cents. I bought a Polar FT7 because it calculates calorie expenditure. However, it's showing 120 calories burned when I work out for 40 minutes. The trainer and I discussed it and that's too low. I emailed Polar and they finally got back to me today. This is what…

You should celebrate the fact that you were out there - you got up and walked! You moved more than those people sitting on their sofas today so YAY for you! We all have to start somewhere and I think most of us are not ready to find out just how out of shape we are. Small steps lead to a lifetime of change....add me as a…

My favorite is a cold Granny Smith apple - wonderfully crisp.

You have to take care of YOU before you can take care of anyone else. And I'm pretty sure your husband is capable of handling his kids. So go run, be fit, take a mental health break.....the world will still turn and your body will be in better shape.

I joined in August 2011 and haven't missed a day, even on those days where logging was painful. It's a wonderful community and a great place to track the things that matter - input and output! Feel free to add me - I'd be happy to support you on your journey!

We all have days and sometimes weeks where we just surrender. But let's get you back on track....what brought you to this site the first time? What was it that made you say "I'm going to change things in my life"? I've had to hit the reset button on a couple of different occasions, but I did. I asked myself what was so…

I hate getting suck on those 1-2 lb up/down. Drives me crazy. You're currently at 1200? Is that the MFP suggested calories, or from another source? It really isn't a lot of calories, so you may want to consider adding 100 a day. I had the same problem a few weeks back; my trainer moved me from 1500 to 1400 per day and my…

Great job! Keep it up - you are worth the effort.

Congratulations! Your hard work has paid off and you are definitely an inspiration to the rest of us.

Welcome to the newest MFP friends! I've lost 70 lbs and have 100+ to go. If I can support you in this journey, please send me a friend request. MFP really makes the lifestyle changes so much easier. Good luck!

Awesome!!!! You just made me smile!!
