How are the various components of a sundae not food?

As a jeweler, I’d advise not wearing rings when working out. Besides the risk of loss, you can damage them lifting weights, grabbing bars, banging on equipment. Interestingly, even 100 lbs heavier, I could still wear almost all of my rings except the really wide ones. However, I have had 4 links taken out of all of my…

If you have a lot to lose, that’s when you should be eating them. You need to fuel your workouts and maintain a sustainable deficit to prevent binging. Also, you won’t have any room to go lower as you lose.

As they say - if you say you can’t - you’re right!

This is what confuses some people and makes them doubt their Fitbit. It included your baseline NEAT calories along with the “extra” calories from the walking.
-
Think about it - do you seriously think you could go an entire week without food?
-
Thinking back - this could be #1!

You’ve gotten some great advice so I hope you can see the benefit in stopping smoking #1. Even if you start by setting your calories to maintenance while you are quitting, you’ll start getting in the habit of weighing and logging your food. At least you won’t gain while you are quitting. (Smoking around a young child isn’t…

And Silver Sneakers at LA Fitness or 24 Hour (and other gyms) is free! I think you get it through your Medicare.

It’s about 40 minutes split between the treadmill and rower. It goes by so fast with the different intervals too!

Wow!

Whatever... OP you got great advice for starting out. At your starting weight, all you have to do is set your 2lbs a week goal, get a food scale and log everything. You can totally eat the same things you like now, just less. You will have a lot of calories to work with so don’t try to go crazy with “healthier” food or…

I love my Blaze - it was a surprise gift that I didn’t even know I wanted. You get all the data plus notifications and you can buy cute after-market cases/bands. I wear it for workouts and on the weekends. Still depending in my One during the week because I like to wear my good watches to work. My last One cost $135 to…

Actually, no one avocado will have the same calories as the next. That’s why you weigh your portions. My 52 grams this morning was 83 calories - very manageable and still a good size portion.

Yep - I’m officially in the cult now - I bought a water bottle!!
-
Yeah - so not apples to apples. I’m keeping my LA Fitness monthly $30 membership for the occasional yoga class and treadmills in the winter but otherwise mid-day step classes (hello ‘80’s) and Zumba aren’t my thing. The lack of amenities/showers, etc luckily isn’t a problem for me @OT since it’s only 6 blocks from my apt.

Oh, and even thought I’d be jogging on the treadmill, I decided to go with the power walking, with the inclines, I think it’s a harder workout!

Did my free trial workout last night and was pretty happy with the process. I wasn’t able to do all of the sets in between rowing and also the during the weights, but the trainer assured me it’s better to do them with the proper form than rushing through. I’ve actually been replaying the session in my mind thinking about…

Buying and eating lunch at the work cafeteria.

When’s your birthday? I turn 60 on Sept 20th!
-
Just a note for any “newbies” reading this post - none of the above has any effect on weight loss except maybe the 2nd #4 - if you don’t count the calories when drinking.
-
Alright! I’m going to schedule my trial session for next week!
-
I kind of was wondering too
-
Thanks for posting! I’ve been putting off my free trial because I have read some not so good review and also being almost 60 (in decent but not great shape), I’d be left in the dust. The new OT that opened in my neighborhood is also my fear because it’s kind of a younger demographic. Any negative experiences from any one?

Don’t worry about getting “fit” right now, otherwise, you’ll get overwhelmed. Just start eating less and moving more. Once you’ve got the hang of weighing & logging your food, then start a workout routine that you enjoy for you with some cardio and resistance training.

Being overweight eats at your health no matter what you ate to get there.

Does that happen when you eat an apple? Carbs there too

Right around 200 - hasn’t kept me from losing 97 lbs

My streak ends on 9/14 when I fly to Venice to get on the ship and sail away to Greece!

Please at least consider some of the great advice you received. Everyone is encouraging you so you can stay on the weight loss path for the upcoming 2-3 years it could take to lose over 200 lbs. Also, you don’t have to do a “complete 180” on what you are eating either - you can still eat your favorite foods - just eat less…
