Does the scale give an accurate weight? I might be in the market for a new scale. I stepped on my digital scale 5 times this morning - 5 different weights, with six pounds difference! Does a withings scale have that problem?

I love Keto/low-carb. So far, it's been the only thing that has worked for me. I track on MFP, I eat high protein, high fat. Eggs, steak, burger, fish, chicken are my protein choices. Asiago or parmesean or blue cheeses. Roasted borcolli or aspargus, lots of "salad with stuff on it" Also new for me: I eat an avocado a day…

Dry beans! You rehydrate them at home. Super delicious, can use for almost any recipe. Cheap! I rehydrate on Sunday and eat for the whole week.

if you feel like spending too much money on tea, just buy a bunch of really nice teas! We have a tea shop nearby, and there is also a mall tea shop called Teavana. Local tea shops and the mall one both have free samples. Go and try a bunch of different teas and buy what you like. Increasing water is good for you, and tea…

I think getting the food and logging it into MFP would be very helpful. That way when you are off the food, you still have a record of your nutrition levels going back a ways. Good luck!

really? Tell me more! I saw the charge was $169 for a monthly membership, and, my hope is that, during that time, I coudl do 8 sessions (2x a week) and learn proper form. I'm not looking to be a body builder, I just want to lift heavy things and not get hurt.

Oh great, and NOW I just read that "starting strength" teaches the Power Clean wrong and it's culty...oy vey.

http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2014/08/01/337141837/cheap-eats-cookbook-shows-how-to-eat-well-on-a-food-stamp-budget There are good recipes in here, I've made them before. Also dried beans - really cheap, super good for you. Sweet potatoes, too.

Green Giant Frozen vegetables, not a full meal, but that's all your vegetab;e prep!

I wouldn't - I used to, until I tripped on an uneven sidewalk, which I would have avoided in the daylight, and I busted up my knee.

Husband is a molecular biologist, and agrees wit everything OP said. Which is good, because you will pry my cherry coke zero out of my cold dead hands.

I work FT and have three little ones. I go to the gym at 545 in the morning to do a workout, before anyone wakes up, but I even feel bad about that - the house needs cleaning! laundry needs doing! I feel terribly guilty, especially if I work out on the weekends. Those are valuable!! But, the truth is, I'm happier if I've…

My husband rides the stationary bike while watching TV. he's down 35 lbs in six months, and he tracks his food on mfp. That's it. that's the only exercise he does. It's do-able and GOOD LUCK!
-
All great advice, thank you! It's mid-April in Michigan, so, I'm not trying an open water swims until the end of May!!! But doing a bike/run is very do-able (and actually pleasant as it's not hot yet), so maybe I start with that, and then alternate with swimming days. And very good advice on making sure I just have the…

I don't have any answers, but I'm listening...my feet go numb on the ellitpical!

This. Just start. Right now. Did you log what you ate so far today? Yes? Perfect! Can you get in some exercise? even a bit? Yes? Perfect! Do that for the rest of the day, and then do the same thing tomorrow, and until you achieve desired results. no kickstart needed. Just start. :) Good luck!

Fake crab sticks, chopped on salad, with dressing. Microwaveable rice bowls. Frozen salad shrimp, thawed under water, also on lettuce. Frozen vegetarian patties. check the organic aisle for premade soups - tomato, mushroom, borcolli soups are all good. Frozen fish fillets are great with squeezed lemon. Eggs, or egg…

I did nutrisystem before and all I lost was money. Honestly? Shop around the frozen section of your local grocery store. You can get the same thing but cheaper and tastier. Green Giant Steamers - frozen vegetables, you just microwave for a couple of minutes. They have a little sauce already on them. Really good really…

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

My husband stopped upsizing his fast food meals and lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks. He did not stop EATING fast food, nor alter his diet in any other way, nor add exercise. He just stopped getting french fry servings that were the size of a baseball, and instead got french fry servings that were teh size of, like, half a…

FANTASTIC! How blessed to have a beautiful family and your health!!! GOOD JOB!

This is GREAT everyone!!! THANK YOU! It makes sense that, for overall fitness, both are necessary, but I just got worried when I read the cardio is a waste of time. I've only got an hour five days a week. I have to be smart about it!! So thank you! I will stick with my cardio + strength WMF class for now. And I won't feel…

Weight loss (looking to lose 40 lbs) Improved stamina

Decrease your weight loss to 1 lb per week. Much easier and then you can be pleasantly surprised when you lose 2 lbs. Add a little exercise and eat those calories. Just be careful that you aren't over estimating the burn! Most people eat back half of what they burnef because estimates can be high. Good luck and you can do…

I third the weighing thing... it's crucial. I figured out that a "normal" bowl of frosted mini-wheats that I used to eat was 600 Calories!! One tip I use for weighing is pain in the butt to measure stuff (like honey, peanut-butter, jelly, etc) is to weigh the container before and after you take what you need. This has…

Do you love the grape juice? Juice is high calories, and not filling, so if you don't love it, I'd ditch it. Your lunch sounds divine. I want to eat it. The frappuccino...can you try a substitute? It's an at home mix my husband gave for me: Take ice cubes, put in blender, fill up the blender to the two cup line, then add…

Tofu Shirataki noodles. I think they are 15 calories a cup. At our grocery store, they are in the fruit and vegetable section, with the tofurkey and sprouts. They are noodles, but not bread noodles, mushroom noodles, and they are only 15 (ish?) calories for a cup. Use that, with some reduced calorie alfredo sauce, spinach,…

I second lbetancourt. MFP even has 10 minute workouts and they often have them on demand on tv. There are 30 day challenges galore, with a squat challenge, and an ab challenge and all of that. Those take 5 - 10 minutes a day. Just do that. Do ten minutes a day for a week. Even just holding a plank position, doing some…
-
You write things down so that you can remember them. I would guess they are avoiding writing it down because it's something they did that they would rather forget!
-
There are several 30 day challenges out there. Try an ab one and a squat one and a leg one. Each of those challenges you can do in 5 - 10 minutes a day, any time any where. or, like someone said, a 10 - 15 minute video. Don't even bother getting into workout clothes. 10 minutes, just do the 10 minute workout. You'll be…
