FWIW, the two big things that cause me the most grief in this are honesty in tracking and sodium. I have a bad habit of going WAY over on sodium and it causes serious fluctuations. The honesty in tracking is HUGE! Its not easy but always assume that you are overestimating how many exercise calories you're burning and…

Fitbit just put out a version of the Alta with a heart rate monitor. They are designed much sleeker than the others with HR monitoring.

I cant say that I'm brighter than you Tacklewasher, but I do know for a fact that proper fats are needed in a diet. They lubricate the joints and help keep the skin and hair moisturized. I know my wife did a thing YEARS ago where she essentially cut out all fats and complained that her hair was brittle and was having a bit…

The best tip that everyone gives on here is be honest with yourself. If you eat it, log it. It dawned on me a few weeks ago how badly I was sabotaging myself by not logging the "tastes" I was taking. I had hit a plateau for a bit and caught myself taking about a quarter of a serving of trail mix because I had the munchies…

Greek yogurt, I prefer Aldi's brand vanilla flavored, with Kashi Golean cereal. I used the vanilla pepita cereal this morning and it was 29 grams of protein. Usually keeps me feeling full till lunch no problem. I haven't used any protein powders yet but am considering it for smoothie snacks. I would second the turkey…

I had something similar happen to me several years ago. My wife and I had been following Weight Watchers and were losing weight but decided to get a gym membership. We took a class that had us rotating between cardio and strength training. I got frustrated when my weight loss stalled for several weeks until it hit me that…

Thanks everybody. Tavistock, it really is a minor injury that doesn't need medical attention. I just realistically need to quit pushing myself too much and let it heal. I have a routine going at the Y for strength training already so don't want to throw that off so I guess that I will be going to the Y to walk or getting…

I've considered that Panda but I tend to get a rhythm going and forget about pace. Besides, there is a woman who uses the elliptical several times a week so I may or may not get it. Sonya, I just don't want to lose the habits that I've been forming. Only started back on this journey in late January so that option, while…

Two things actually. Honesty in logging food. Not that I'm intentionally trying to mislead myself, but I have a bad habit of underestimating amounts. Eating low sodium is the other. Finding it VERY hard to keep my sodium levels down. Granted, we've been eating out a lot lately but anytime you use anything to make cooking a…

Sorry, been working overtime and then sick so haven't been on here in a bit. If there is no need to log exercise, other than non-heart rate related, on MFP then I will stop doing it. It could very well be that my times aren't quite right and to be honest, I have NO idea if the time zones are correct which could well mean…

I personally eat back between half to three quarters of my exorcise calories and am losing fairly steadily. That being said, make sure to eat enough protein. It definitely helps to curb the hunger and also helps with building and toning muscles.

Not long weight lifting sessions. Right now about 15 to 20 minutes. That will hopefully change later but for now, its about all I can manage. So then I should quit logging exercise in MFP then?
-
I cant say for sure how much is too much but I do know that upping the amount of protein in my diet has greatly helped with feeling tired all the time. Maybe smaller portions or less calorie and sugar dense fruits?

Question about tracking exercise with the fitbit. When should I use the button on the side to start a workout? I'm currently using this to track time on the elliptical, walking, and weight training, but from what I've been reading should I only use this for the elliptical? Along with this, I've been logging my exercises in…

And I have read, at least in part, the stickies. A lot of it just doesn't make any sense to me.

I currently have MFP set at sedentary but when the weight gain started, I had adjusted it up to light active. I have a desk job but work in a prison so end up doing a lot of walking from office to office sometimes. During the time MFP was adjusted up to light active it was still giving me what I would consider to be a…

Personally, I ignore it anyway. Its only an estimate and if I had a rough day or if there was a family function or something, it only does it based ON THAT ONE DAY. It doesn't take into consideration that its only one day and not a trend. I've heard about too many people freaking out over that "estimate" so I ignore it…

My goal weight is 200 pounds which still puts me overweight so right now I have 65 pounds to go. I know the setup for MFP. I actually asked my dietician about where to set my activity level. She said as long as my net average remains over 1500 I'm fine. I'm normally eating back about 3/4 of my exercise calories. Leaving a…

I'm fair sure that there was a bit of divine intervention there!! LOL! If nothing else, God made the parts and we finally got lucky and put them together properly!

And everything I'm doing is sustainable. If I tried to cut my intake back, I'd binge. And the fact of the matter is that I LOVE food! No offense to any vegan's, vegetarians, or possibly Muslim's on here, if God didn't want me to eat pork then why did he make bacon so tasty!!! I understand the concept that it wasn't put on…

Yes, I'm familiar with the non-linear thing. Been tracking my weight almost daily for just over a week to get a better idea of how things go. This REALLY highlights the ups and downs.
-
Yup. You have to go into settings like you were going to change your activity level and do it there. That's something I actually need to start doing myself.

@annacole94 I haven't really done anything extreme as far as habit changes other than the exercise and that's becoming less of a burden and more enjoyable. The muscle loss due to my age is why I've started doing strength training. Should have mentioned in the original post, I started off at about 285 pounds. I guess there…

Me too. Have never seen it but there are a ton of pictures on the net to illustrate it.

@Look_Its_Kriss Quick google check revealed that ALL restaurants are required to remove trans fats from their items by 2018 but several haven't done so yet. Wendy's was on the list with the Baconator Burger. This was a two year old article though so maybe, maybe not. Edited to add 2018 to the restaurants requirement to…

Granted, it could just be old MFP data as well.

@Look_Its_Kriss Not sure about KFC as there isn't one in my town anymore so haven't had it in years but I know several fast food chains, not necessarily all, have trans fat in their burgers. DQ for sure as I've logged one of their burgers in the last year.

And the issue is? I had a slice of Perkin's coconut cream pie last night. Weighed in this morning at three and a half pounds down. As long as you're maintaining a reasonable weekly average its fine. Part of the reason I'm doing this is because I'm dancing the line of becoming a diabetic but I REFUSE to live in a world…

Definitely switch to a low impact workout. And maybe you've just injured your knee and it needs a few to recuperate? I've had bad knees for years and mine like to remind me that they're there every once in a while and I have to slow down for a couple of days to let them heal.

Weekly average starting from Sunday was at 1600 yesterday before dinner. I'm getting 1900 calories per day and averaging 500+ worth of exercise calories.
